Excellent unit for the money! (CDN$40).
Some flakey operational glitches, such as intermittent response to rotate on JPG stills, intermittent open/close response.
Also on JPG viewing, it doesn't "zoom to fit" unless you rotate to portrait, so you end up with only the centre of the image in landscape mode.
Plays R1/2/4/0 out of the box - presumably others too.
Doesn't like menus on some DVDs (The Dish/R4).
Doesn't like widescreen on some disks: The Dish/R4, Life of Brian (Criterion: R0?) play back "squashed" on a 4:3 TV. But Ronin/R2 plays back fine with the expected black bands. Go figure...
MP3 playback sounded fine from CD, CD-RW and DVD-R, but didn't always play the item selected. (Could be related to long filenames - further testing needed.)
Remote is non-intuitive to say the least.
All in all though - I'm well pleased for the money spent! |

Got this player after friend's recommendations. This is great. Played all what I could put on it. DVD+rws, DVD+rs, copied DVDs, ones I made. Even played MPGs off of CD-Rs and CD-RWs that I've downloaded from the internet. Granted couldn't play all the mpegs, but still played most of them.
Only beef about this unit is sometimes in a movie playback (any kind) there will be occasional horizontal lines (dark, just noticeable). On some movies it is noticeable, sometimes you'll never seem them.
I've used Nero, Roxio, B's Record on various brands of CD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW and no problem reading. Played 90% of the MPeGs I have and movies I've created and/or ripped using DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter, neoDVD.
Read Packet written CD-rws and DVD-Rws using B's Clip with no problem. |

| Everything i put into this thing played flawlessly. i tried a PAL region 0 dvd and it worked fine. i tried vcd and svcd and both worked. also dvd+r works great too. (i used memorex 4x and fugifilm 4x burned at 8x with nero 6). only one problem is that when it ejects the discs the tray dosent come out all the way. kinda weird but ill deal with it...also the frot flap that covers the cd tray is a bit flimsy. other than that everything is great on it. its a nice little player and its not bulky. and its a steal for what it can do. |

Bought two of these to replace my older Daewoo players. The player does all I have tried with it perfectly. It has played all the dvd+r discs I have made without a problem. I'm using dvd Shrink 3 and Nero 6 to copy/archive my own dvds. I used ImageTool burn on a few copies and the player had no problem with those discs either.
The remote control layout is poor, but I can live with it. For $40 at Sams, this is a great player. I would have rated it at 10 were the remote better. |

My real concern was (which arose from all the earlier reports) about this dvd player was if it can actually play dvd+r's, and according to the reports it can't. Well, today I went ahead and burnt a 4x dvd-r on my sony dru510a (dvd video) which I just bought at bestbuy for $50 (memorex, 50 spindle) and gave it a test run on the s151... guess what, the thing played it just beautifully. So the conclusion is that it does play dvd+r's fine, on top of all, my logic was telling me that why would a dvd player that can definitely play DVD+RW's wouldn't be able to play DVD+R's?...
P.S. The player plays the DVD-RW's fine as well - tested that a while ago... |

Picked up four units at Sams Club for $37 all work great. We have ran one player 12-14 hours a day at our business for 6 months, not one problem.
Disc used verbatim +r, +rw, -r, -rw,and many cheap brands of cdrs. :) |

| The price, size and features of this unit are awesome! Unfortunately, with both DVD-Rs we created and a commercial movie, there are faint vertical bars visible (especially in darker scenes). This is a show-stopper for us as we do professional video productions. I hope this is a single unit problem and not a design flaw. I will exchange for another at Sam's Club. |

First, at least with my unit there is no Progressive Scan. The only option in video setup is Interlaced. It states it in the manual, and it's the only option available on the menu.
Nice player for the price overall. No trouble playing any discs so far. Even dirt cheap CD-R's give it no trouble.
Remote could be better, and universal remotes sure don't like it.
One final note, I'm not a big fan of the tray, since it doesn't come out all the way and you have to almost "wedge" the disc in. Oh well, for the price, I can live with it! |

I was mainly concerned about the reports that it can't play the dvd+r's... it was not making sense to me that it CAN play dvd+rw's but not the dvd+r's (it would've been more believable if it was vice-versa). so just a couple of days ago I saw a great deal in bestbuy for a 50 spindle of dvd+r's (i've been using dvd-r's previously), so i burnt a dvd video on one of the newly puchased dvd+r's, popped it into the s151... guess what, it plays just fine!!! also, it does play the dvd-rw just as well - i tried that a long time ago...
On a side note, this player plays any region dvd's both PAL and NTSC without any hack or remote combination entry needed. |

Bought this because my expensive Toshiba progressive scan player won't handle anything like vcd's and svcd's. So far everything i have stuck in this thing works. All have been recorded on cheap no name cd-r's and have worked with no problems at all.
Lately, I have been experimenting with backup DVD's created on my computer, and dvd-r's of programs recorded on a standalone dvd recorder in dvd-r format as well. Both have worked perfectly. For 40 bucks at Sam's Club it is a great buy. Not sure how long it will last, but at this price I have not been afraid to carry it around and let my 8 year old operate it at will. |

Fantastic DVD Player for the money. I consider this an upgrade from my magnavox player.
Technical:
-Remote needs work, but any videophile worth his salt should have a universal to replace it with.
-Progressive Scanning does work on this model, despite it's not being advertised on the box or in the manual, or Daewoo's website. Go into Setup and set the Video Output to Betacam.
-Supposedly supports all regions out of the box. Haven't tested it or read a review where anyone has. Also converts Pal to NTSC.
Video:
-Tested with Star Wars Episode II and Scarface
Even tones. I work for a major electronic's store and I can say that the picture is comparable with sony's dvpns325. Shockingly I'd say the picture is better than the dvpns425p, progressive scan model that had just been unleashed.

I got this at Sam's Club for $49. Wanted something to play VCD's and SVCD's after my old DVD player gave up the ghost. I've been playing around with creating my own VCD's and SVCD's and it does an awesome job of playing everything that I've thrown at it. Even stuff that isn't standard compliant VCD's and SVCD's. It plays CD-R's and CD-RW's which makes the testing process much easier. Instead of making three coasters for every good SVCD I can test it on a CD-RW and see if it is any good. I haven't played any MP3s on it, so I can't comment on that. But for playing VCD's and SVCD's it's great.
I have noticed that it get's very hot when left on all the time. That may be because of the enclosed stereo/television cabinet it's in. But I have to turn it off when not in use. It also has a tendency to not open the tray when you push the open/close button. I've had to shut the unit down to get it to eject a disk. But for $49 I can forgive these minor quibbles, you can't beat the price. I'm very happy with it. |

Play most of the basic formats fine but has a problem with some mp3 folders. This is the case I put to tech sp. After testing mp3 disk (muti brand media) the player would have problem with reading some folders (folder 4 on disk & 7 on another). The same disk played fine on the dvds150, Apex, and my anki. This happens in 1 out of 7 disk tested. I returned the unit and it has the same problem ( my buddy ). Tech sp said that I am the only caller. So please if you have this unit test some of your mp3 folder (if you have problems) call tech sp.
many thanks

| Tried to play macrovision DVDs and it alters the screen colors on playback - hooked up directly to S-Video on TV. I bought 2 from Sams, and they both are unable to play macrovision protected DVDs directly to a TV without messing up the colors (Both Star Wars 1 & 2, and Catch me if you can). The picture is stable, and the DTS sound out of the coax connector is awesome...but sucky picture isn't going to make me keep them. Back to Sams they go.... |

| Not bad for $39. Just got it today so I need to do some more testing but... All SVCD's played fine so far but subs didn't work. Second audio track did play though. All NTSC DVD-R's played fine so far. Unit played a 4:3 PAL DVD-R on my NTSC system pretty well also. Only tried one MP3 disc. File names not full but much longer than 8 characters. |

The player is $39 USD at Sams Club.
Played what I gave it, even improperly authored DVD on CD (someone set the bitrate above 10Mb and it would stutter on all DVD players).
It is region free out of the box, with no codes needing to be typed in on the remote.
I tested the Multi region ability as well as NTSC output by using an imported PAL DVD, it worked fine, but the DVD I had is not letterbox, so I cant say if it properly handles letterbox PAL conversion.
Used Verbatim CD-R and Memorex DVD-R as well as standard DVD.
Picture looks good, and for the price I have no complaints.
