Update after one year:
Mine still works fine, except with the MPG/AVI video files. After a couple of hours, it just stops and returns to the menu. There is no save position when playing MPG, so it forces you to start over. It may be a heat issue or just related to the MPG format, I'm not sure yet.
Regular DVDs seem to work fine--though I had a glitch on one homemade one after many hours (was very hot) in the car.
I found that attaching the battery on the back, even when using AC/Car adapter, it helps dissipate the heat better.
I have no idea if you can even buy these anymore, as usually there's a newer model after one year... |

I bought the OEM version of this player (Arrgo ADP-730) at 'Must Have IT' for £220, although you can get them online for less than £200.
Initially, I was very impressed with the player.
The screen is exceptionally good, which is what first attracted me to it. I don't think the 150:1 contrast ratio quoted by some retailers can be right for the TFT screen as I actually had to turn it down for some films, not up. The speakers are small as with all DVD portables, but certainly clear and good enough if you're in a reasonably quiet environment. The player not only has S-Video but also component outputs with progressive scan (although no component cable is supplied...) which is certainly impressive for a portable, and also has PAL60 support for excellent pictures with NTSC discs when you connect the player to a PAL TV. There are easily more video and audio options to play with on this machine than I have seen on any other DVD player, portable or otherwise.
But unfortunately, after testing it for a couple of days, I found considerable flaws.
For starters, it had big problems playing DVD+RW discs (only two would play out of 10 I tried, all are working on my 4 regular DVD players), which was a deal breaker for me as I have a Philips DVD Recorder that uses those discs. I also noticed a strange 'stuttering' effect with the video (it looked like it would jump backwards a few frames) on quite a few PAL discs, which happened every couple of minutes throughout the film. This was only noticeable if you knew it was there on the LCD screen, but very apparent when connected to a TV.
There was also a problem with the headphones socket, which I remember reading in a magazine review (of the Cyberhome player). While fine for listening to DVDs, when listening to CDs or MP3s the socket was far too 'over amped' (from a range of 0-32, a loud but comfortable headphones volume was 2 or 3), which means there is some pretty loud hiss on the headphones and also I could hear electrical interferrance from the DVD motor. As I was planning to take it on holiday to play MP3s, this was a pretty serious flaw as well. Also, some retailers advertise this player as being able to play DVD-Audio and even SACDs, but after checking with Cyberhome it doesn't look like it can play either (it just plays the Dolby or DTS tracks on DVD-Audio discs and just the CD layer of hybrid SACD discs, just as players without support for those formats can).
Finally, 'Must Have IT' told me when I bought the machine that it had a 4 hour battery. However, after checking for myself and looking at the US Cyberhome site, I realised this player only has a 2.5 hour battery (lasted just under 3 hours on a full charge). I assume they got confused between this model and the more expensive, all aluminium body player that does come with a 4 hour battery. You also cannot buy a replacement battery, or the internal battery mentioned in the manual, outside of the US.
It's a shame I had to return this player, as my second choice (the Shinco SDP-1720) has no S-Video output, and its very possible the main flaws of the Cyberhome LDV 707B (Arrgo ADP-730) could be fixed by a simple firmware update, something Cyberhome did very well with their 505 DVD player. |

| This player worked great until the spinup motor took a dive after 6 months. Cyberhome wants $90 to repair it. I think that is ridiculous for a player that is not even 1 year old. It worked great until that happened. One other item, is that Cyberhome's technical support group is virtually impossible to get a hold of. So, buyer beware! |

| Got player at Wal-Mart as Xmas '03 present. Made October '03 according to sticker on player. Played everything I threw at it except Divx, QT, & wmv files. Played mpegs & avi files I had on a -R with no problems and played mp3 & wma (WM9) with no problems. Noted player's system GUI was identical to AMW M270 player (I bought this and the Cyberhome at the same time to compare, and the Cyberhome won based on screen & build quality)-I d/l the manual for the M270 from a-mw.com and used it to set the player to use Japanese audio-there was no lising of language codes in the Cyberhome's manual, and I never got a response back via e-mail about it. Used player about 15-20 minutes per workday (I watched DVD's during lunch). Screen quality was decent, and viewing angle was pretty good. The speakers aren't much to write home about, but it has a good headphone amp-almost as loud as my iRiver. A caveat: the player would get noticebly hot when working-either with battery or a/c adapter. Also, I haven't been able to find an extended battery that was listed to work with this player; Cyberhome now has a 6-hr one on their site, but it's $180. Last month, the player started to act up-would make loud grinding noises when shutting down, and then it started to spin discs real fast when trying to read them. I had to turn the player off several times before it would read a disc. Showed it to a buddy of mine that works on electronics & he said the laser assembly was frying-time for another player. Tried e-mailing Cyberhome support-got no response after a couple of days. Called their CS line (888-302-2727, m-f 9-5:45 pst) and was on hold for 1 hr 5 min before getting a very polite CSR who waived the labor fee before I even asked about the costs (player has 90 dy labor & 1 yr parts warranty) and gave me an RMA# and had me mail the player back-they'd either repair or replace. Got my return this Friday (total turnaround was 2 1/2 weeks) and they sent me another player. It works fine, but the screen blinks if there is a very bright flash in the movie during playback (regardless of brightness adjustments), and the screen quality seems to be a little less than its predecessor. The new player was also made October '03. I'd strongly advise anyone who got this player to get an extended or a swap-out warranty with it; Wal-mart now offers an extended warranty, but you have to buy the warranty from their website within 30 days of purchase. On a side note, I haven't seen the player being offered in their stores in several months, though they still carry the 700B player. Taking that and the fact that their CS line was hideously busy into account, one has to wonder about the life of the player. |

LCD display & features are great & everything is Work great begining, problem after 20 hours of playing.
Stoping reading CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, only reading DVD.
Email support at CyberHome.com, no response.
Newer Model 700B come with 2 separate lazer heads side by side instead of one head in 707B. Have to REMOVE battery after use otherwise battery drained even turn off the power on both models 700B & 707B. I wouldn't recommend buying them. |

I got this at walmart for $218.... it has been the best $218 ever spent. The battery will last for one movie before recharging, but it comes with a DC and AC plug, so i don't use the stand alone battery that much. The picture is great. DVD-/+R playbacks are great. I have used a big variety of DVD-/+R's and I have never come across one that doesn't work w/ the dvd player. It comes with a complete accessory kit and bag. For my car, I used my old tape deck to cd player audio cord and it works great. The only problem i have had w/ the player was that my brother was watching it in the car when i forgot my tape deck cord, he had the volume on full and it busted the speakers(while watching a new 007 action movie at a big explosion scene). I took it back to walmart and they replaced it, no questions asked. The speaker volume level is just fine as long as there isn't a lot of background noise (like in my car). It has an mini-optical plug output for my surround sound receiver... eventhough the player decodes DTS and Dolby Digital sound w/o the need for a receiver. The DVD player also has video/audio input, so if you have a camcorder or digital camera, tv output, computer video card output, etc, you can watch and listen to it on the dvd player which is pretty cool. The battery recharges pretty fast, i have never timed it b/c i have never needed to. Any questions e-mail me. Check out the web site for more info....

| i bought player at WALMART for $218.88. DVD player comes with nice leather case which most do not so that was an added bonus. Also this player played EVERYTHING i threw at it..SVCD,VCD,DVD-R,DVD+R,MP3. Ive used memorex and imation 2x and 4x media (DVD+R & DVD-R).Ive produced custom dvds and i've had NO issues whatsoever. The player is multisystem as well so it handles both NTSC and PAL. Ive not tried it yet, but according to manual it is PAL compliant. One negative issue is the battery. after you charge the battery DO NOT LEAVE THE POWER CORD ATTACHED!!!! I fried my battery one night when i was using the ac adapter and didnt unplug it from the unit when i was finished. the battery will try to charge itself when ac adapter is plugged it (only when unit is turned off)i left it plugged in for almost 1.5 days and it nuked the battery.Manual says not to charge it for more than 8 hours.I now know why that is. I exchanged it at walmart with no hassles after telling them the battery wouldnt hold a charge. thats the only down side to this player. |

Incredible value considering screen (7.2") and included accessories. $218 including shipping from Walmart.com. Package comes with case which doubles as a auto seat mount, power supplies for both 12v auto and 120v, earphones, video and audio cables with quite a number of diverse pigtails, remote and battery.
concur with others that side angle viewing is very good, espeically compared to much more expensive units.
Menues and hookups extensive.
plays every brand type of dvd I have thrown at it.

Just an update:
The 707B plays WMA (v9) and MP3 VBR down to 32kbps and at least upwards of 192 on mp3. This includes some 22khz encoded mp3 speech files.
It allows you to navigate while playing and even displays JPG files during music playback, though stops the slide show at the next track.
It handles all kinds of media, even a highly scratched generic disk I had laying around.
It does not display TAG info, and displays only upto ~20 characters in the filename. Too bad, as the id-tag info is important to me. Although, it does display the bitrate info. And it has a freq-bar animated display while the music plays.
All in all, the more I play with it, the more impressed I am with the 707b. Especially at the price I got at wallymart. |

Plays MPG files on DVD-R without authoring--a great way to compress many movies to one disk for long trips and few if any disk-exchanges. And with a 7" screen, XSVCD 480x480@1300cbps is sufficient quality for kids shows. Of course, there is no chaptering with such disks...
Menu has loads of options and versatilities. Can select the region with the remote and hack (search google).
Screen could be better, but is sufficient. It has good range of side angle viewing, but less vertical angle diversity. Bag is great--converts to a fairly good car mount. Battery life stinks, but portable DVD players never do have great battery life.
Again, what makes this player such a great deal is the price plus MPG file playing without authoring. |

| I have compared several portable models side by side and found the Cyberhome 707B produces much better screen images than several higher priced units including Audiovox, Mintek/Initial, Polaroid 7" & 8" models and Panasonics with 9" screen. Most of the players I tried seem to have what I would call "coarse" image quality maybe from too few pixels when compared to the 707B. The Cyberhome 707B produces more of what I would call a "fine grained" image. This became very noticeable on showing jpg slide shows with several people in the photo, especially detail in their eyes. This model Cyberhome also has better firmware than any other player I've seen from the standpoint of "Video Quality Setup". This area of the video setup offers Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Saturation plus a couple of other settings. I have not seen another player with this many settings in the firmware. I loved the screen size of the Samsung 10", but it doesn't have even brightness or contrast controls and their preset levels aren't to my liking on some things I played. I noticed that Cyberhome has a 10" model planned for released according to Amazon. The 707B has played home made DVD+R/RW movies and cd's with jpg photos without a hiccup which some players, including much more expensive Panasonics and Toshibas, refused to play. The 707B with included carrying bag, car adaptor, S-Video connection delivers the best picture and best price/performance I have seen. For $218 at Wal-Mart, I don't think it can be beat.... at least for now. |

I had an Apex PD-450 for a couple of weeks. While the Apex played many formats and many kinds of media, the unit was visibly cheap. In both construction, screen quality, and cosmetically. So I returned the Apex and got the CyberHome CH-LDV 707B.
The CyberHome looks like a very expensive unit, but only cost $218.00 at Walmart (Dec 16, 2003).
The 7" wide screen is nice; much better than the Apex's screen. Another nice thing about the CyberHOme is that you can control almost everything with the buttons on the unit, without having to use the remote. The Apex, you must use the remote, even for some basic things.
I've successfully played MP3's, VCDs, SVCDs, DVDs, on a variety of media.
There is one thing that is very interesting. That is the Apex PD-450 and the CyberHome CH-LDV707B seem to use similar firmware - the playback screens, the setup screens, etc. look all the same between the two units. Is CyberHome a division of Apex? They are both in Southern California. As an added bonus, there is a very easy hack via the remote to make it Region Free! |
