I agree with the positive comments the others have posted. No negatives, other than the first unit I purchased would not spin normally and play media (it would spin for a couple seconds and then stop, repeat, repeat. But now, all is super! Plays everything thrown at it in various formats: DVD-Video, UDF/ISO, UDF, etc. Note: VCD header trick, KVCD's, and Verbatim +R DL's also work just fine! I like the no region hack, as well. Although some may not like the constant standby drainage of the battery (not an issue for me, as I only use the A/C adaptor), several features I could not find on my previous Mintek MDP-1770 really offset this "inconvenience": on/off on remote, volume control on remote, and the ability to turn the monitor off during playback (useful, if you want to save battery/screen-life while playing back on an external video monitor).

I bought this player at Target for $217 + tax. Nice overall package!

This little thing works verry well. I bought it from Best Buy actually on accident. I went two days after Christmas to try and find a 7 inch portable dvd player that someone had perhaps gotten for christmas and didn't like it so they took it back. well I was thinking about buying the polaroid dvd player but... it cost $178. Although all I was armed with was a $100 gift card and $39 in cash I was kinda looking for something I could save up for maybe the polaroid dvd player would look better in person, I had only viewed it online which is where I did my shopping. when I got to the dvd section, they all looked soo good and I wanted them all. but the prices were still high not really any sales.. well there was a $5 sale Big whoop right? but I was looking for something more but then a guy that worked at Best Buy wearing a blue shirt carring a dvd player in a box brought it over to the section where I was looking for dvd players he just walked over, placed it on a shelf nearby. and being me a walked over and looked at it. on the box was a sticker that said " I was an open iteam" origional price 149.99 SALE 129.99 and I was like WOW and I bought it after a while of thinking and threating over the fact that it had been opened and was cheaper than the other portable dvd players. it looks ugly on the box but realy is pretty. turned out to be a good buy comes with all sorts of cables remote with battery which works fine. I like it and I hope you guys would enjoy it , too
Thanks,
Rosie

Played everything I threw at it, except:

On homemade dvd's it did not allow me to select the menu options I prepared, whichdo work on other players. I used TMPGenc to create menus for a combo 2-movie DVD (kids movies) and I can only play the first movie because the menus don't work (only play button does anything).

Otherwise it works perfectly for all commercial CD's and 'factory' menus. I was surprised it plays DVD MP3's... nice feature.

Other issues:

Battery can't be charged w/ DC Adapter (only AC).

Battery needs to be manually disconnected when not in use (a physical switch would have been nice). I ended up putting a piece of a business card between the battery and the contacts to prevent connectivity but allow me to store the battery conveniently.

Overall, minor stuff and for the price a great player. Bought it at Target for $217+tax.

First unit, purchased at WALMART in NY for $218, had two dead pixels and battery would not recharge after initially charging.

Returned to WALMART in SE Florida. Replacememmnt unit and battery are working GREAT! No dead pixels. AND... I received a $20 refund, making the price $198!!

I used this player for the past six weeks while away from home at various locations, with a hotel room TV, and while traveling on a plane. Plays backup DVD's as well as originals just about perfectly. Noticed a very occasional temp freeze of playback using backup DVD's which did not repeat when "rewound" and replayed same portion of movie. "Last play" memory works fine.

Also played mp3 CD-R's and DVDR's (nearly 1,000 songs! - 31 character filename max - plays both +R and -R discs.) Did not see ID3 support. Has autoplay but can be stopped and new folder/files selected manually. Also played JPEG's on CD-R (has automatic slideshow, but can be stopped and photos shown individually.) All worked perfectly.

The 700B is bright, progressive scan-capable (but you need to purchase the cable - the only cable not included - all other cables are included), has good volume through headphones (a bit low on TV but volume can be raised to perfect levels), and good remote that includes battery and works well even across a good sized room. Other accessories have been noted in this forum.

The 700B uses power waiting for a remote signal even when "off." The battery WILL drain when left in and the player is stored away. Users should remove the battery before storing it in its case between uses.

This clamshell unit must be at least partially opened to use because the unit has an automatic cut-off switch when closed. DVD door open button appears a little on the weak side but poses no problem so far. Pressing on door while DVD is spinning WILL impede the rotation of the disk.

Battery life is well over the time required for playing a single movie (even Dances With Wolves.) Recharging takes 1-2 hours.

Can be used as monitor for external inputs, such as camcorder or external tuner!

For the price, and in the use, this portable is impossible to beat. Rating of "8" reflects only the few problems encountered along the way. For the quality of screen, playback, the included cables/accessories/case and its overall usefulness, I'd rate it higher.

NOTE: DO NOT purchase the model 707, thinking it is a newer model. IT IS NOT! Battery is larger and external. Klunky power wire tail permanently affixed to back of 707. The 700B is the only way to go, once the battery charging problem is eliminated.

It played all VCD and SVCD movies. But after doing a full charge of the battery it won't charge anymore. I bought one and my father bought one at Walmart and we both returned them. My father got a replacement one from another state and it did the same thing. Let me know if yours does the same thing too. Or was it just our luck???

Just got it today at Walmart for $218 + tax.
I have been researching for a while and decided to give this model a try, since I do not need anything sofisticated. Well, it definitely exceeded my expectations. Played all the formats I have (CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW and VCD). I used memorex, fujifilm, phillips, tdk and sony media. Couple of notes: Several people on the net complained that the screen can only be viewed head-on. I am not sure why this opinion persists, but I could see the picture just fine from a pretty steep angle. One potential issue could be battery life (I have not tried yet) and another the plastic button that opens the dvd loading door (could wear out with time). But overall if you can be fairly gentle with this unit, it should do just fine. So if you are in the market for a portable dvd player and want to stay within the $250 range, this model is hard to beat.

Excellent little portable. Carry bag may not seam like a big deal, but it is well designed. Comes with all cables necessary to hook up to a home or car theater. Great for travel.

Media: TDK 4x DVD-R that comes with TDK indiDvd 440 external burner.
