Hi everyone,
I'm living Turkey. I'm talk Cyberhome Sales Manager before buy CH-DVR 1530. Sales Manager said "Our all products have PAL compability and CH-DVR 1530, too".
I'm buy 1530. Connect my PAL TV. Picture is B/W. 1530 not compatible PAL. In setup menu video output in here only selectable NTSC don't have PAL output.
I'm connect any PAL devices, picture is skipping and B/W.
I want help request CYBERHOME support. I will wait..

After I sent my Cyberhome 2500 DVD recorder in for service the second time (covered under extended HSN service contract) the repair facility was apparently unable to fix it and had Cyberhome replace it with the 1530 model.
This one seems to work OK with the DVD+RW that came with it, and with one included with the original unit I had. I haven't tried other DVD+RW's. But out of a brand new pack of DVD+R disks, I have only been able to get one disk to format and record. 5 other disks I tried don't seem to work - it goes through the process and then displays "Unformatted" and will not record. No error message is displayed.
There are fewer editing options with this model - chapter marks must be inserted while recording, not after, and only the last title or chapter can be deleted, even with RW disks. The menu is better than the 2500, especially the labeling, but titles I enter before making the recording don't seem to stay. After recording, a default title (time, date, source) is shown regardless of any previous title editing, and I have to edit that for it to be permanent.
When a title is edited, or a timer program added, the screen will display "SUCCESS!" The exclamation point is well-deserved because success is so rare with this machine. |

I have borrowed this set-top recorder from a friend and have noticed a few things about this particular unit that I thought I would share, most importantly, is this: The unit has a timed recording feature, such that if you press the "record" button a second time, it will auto-record for 30 minutes, a thrid time, 1 hour, etc. Okay, if you press this button more than once BEFORE the timer has a chance to start running, it WILL freeze up the unit, rendering your disc useless. I had it happen to me, TWICE, losing about 5-6 hours of work, before I relaized the cause of the problem. Second issue: Even though it takes about 4-5 second before the timer starts rolling, it HAS already started recording. The actual recording starts less than 1 second AFTER you have pressed the "record" button. It just takes THAT LONG for the timer to catch up (I do not know if this throws the actual time off, yet, as I haven't looked into it.) Lastly, even though it says I can edit the title names, it WILL NOT seem to let me, no matter how hard I try. I hate the fact that if you have the inputs assigned to anything other than the cable input, when you turn off the unit, it resets it, so you will have to go back in and set it, EVERY TIME. UGH! Nice choice of recording modes: 1,2,3,4,6, and 8.
I DID notice that playing a burnt disc from this unit on my Apex AD-1500, resulted in me not being able to FF any faster than 2X through the disc. Oh well.
All in all, I gave it a 5 cause it DID burn my projects, half decent, so long as I didn't get overly anxious with that timer mode, and they WILL play back on MY unit, albeit with some quirks. Hence the middle-of-the-road rating.

My first DVR, goodbye tape.
Purchased from Newegg for 165$ not a bad little unit, plays everything I throw at it...easy to use.
Remote control is huge and the buttons are sticky.
loud disk noise when playing dvd movies...okay when the movie is playing.
Probably won't use this unit to play movies...the PQ is very good though.
JPEG playing is *very* slow and the quality is mediocre.
MP3 is excellent, easy to use menu.
Loud distorted audio signal when switching between dvd and tv, lasts about a second(digital coax out)hopefully a firmware update will fix this.
Recording is a snap, works as advertised. it's nice to record live TV again!
bought this recorder to archive my tape collection and it does the job perfectly.
Having firewire is a nice option, have many DV tapes to archive and this makes it easy.
this is a nice unit for the price hooks up well to my Mitsu 55" HDTV.

| THe 1500 gave me lots of problems (usual), The 1530 is slower, they solve the TV tuner issue, The solve the DVD-RW issue. They took all the edited function away. It is more solid than before. I haven't had a problem. Still uses the same chip LSI. It has a great picture. Finalizing takes much longer. But it works! Present owners of the 1500 will like the simplicity but will not like the editing function. I will give it a 7 3/4. If it lasts a year than will move to a 8. |
