| Customer support is terrible. Had 3 units (2 warranty replacements) within a year and half. Took 2 months to send replacements. Worked fairly well when first purchased. After a few months, disc eject would fail and machine wouldnt turn off except by unplugging. 2 replacements did exact same thing. Also had a lot of disc freezing & skipping, unplug to reset. You couldnt get me to buy Cyberhome product again. |

ocasional problems with incorrect sound decoeding when playing CD Audio, firmware update did not help.
This product has probably deffective internal AC power supply - in aprox 1 - 2 years it fails. Mine went dead in 2years 3 months, while my friend was more lucky and it faild during warranty period.
Also it is VERY sensitive to any DVD read errors - even miuscule read error results DVD player to freeze and must be turned off/on again.
The JPGs are shown so slowly that it makes it unusable (especially if shot by more than 3MBpix camera).
On the other side it was not bad player. |

| I bought this player almost 2 years ago, and I really like it. I've tried several types of dvd's, and they all worked with this player. He also supports the double layer media that I burned (Traxdata), if you have the newest firmware update. |

Sorry, you're right - no Progressive Scan. One day I'll learn not to believe everything I'm told by Richer Sounds ;)
This player continues to impress me each time I try something new with it. I recently tried a disc with some non-DVD standard MPEG2 video captured from a DVB card (at 544/576) and the 505 played it without any problem. I tried the same disc in three other players and they would either not play it at all (e.g. Philips) or the picture would be garbled (Toshiba). Amazing machine! |

Wow! A truely excellent player, and with excellent support from the manufacturer too in the way of firmware updates. You could very easily spend twice as much on another player and get an inferior machine.
Bear in mind though that even machines being sold now (had mine for around 1 month) are it seems being sold with pretty old firmware (mine was 10669, the current version is 20763). When bought, the player had problems with high bitrate and VBR MP3s, and had no jpeg (picture cd) support - the latest firmware sorted out both of those problems, and seems to have fixed a few other small issues (e.g. skipping SVCD chapters can be done with |<< and >>| keys) so be sure to flash the player asap. You can get the latest region and macro free firmware from http://main-street-usa.bei.t-online.de/
I got this player in exchange for the disappointing Acoustic Solutions 651 (which is amazingly the same price), and the difference really is night and day. This player hasn't had a single problem with any of my discs, including some poor quality DVD+RW overprints. Also, I have to mention the PAL60 mode for NTSC playback - this really looks AMAZING, the best video quality I've ever seen from an NTSC title (although some of this might be because the player also has progressive scan, which my other players do not have). The video quality in general is pretty excellent and seems to easily beat my Philips and Toshiba players. It uses the STCineMaster Omega chipset, if that mean anything to you.
I will list the flaws I've found, although they're hardly worth mentioning to be honest. When you have the screen zoomed (which is an analogue zoom rather than in stages by the way, very nice) you cannot use the |<< and >>| keys to skip chapters as they now control the zoom, so you have to first un-zoom then change chapter and then restore the zoom. I've made two DVD-VCDs (MPEG1 VCD standard video on a DVD, with upsampled audio) and while they play fine (better than on my Philips) there is a grayish-white bar that appears at the bottom of the screen while the video is playing, although this is not as offputting as it sounds and is quickly ignored. The speed at which the machine reads jpegs at (particularly hi res 2 megapixel images) isn't great, although you can simply offset the slideshow time to allow for this anyway, so it's only an issue if you want to jump to a particular picure or use the thumbnail view.
The player looks and feels like a high quality product - the unit's front is a very nice brushed aluminium, and the OSD is very polished (although as mentioned in other reviews here, it changed in the latest firmware versions and I personally prefered the original OSD screens).
In short, I would highly recommend this player. In fact I've been very tempted to go back to the shop and get a second one for the bedroom. |

Great player, that plays just about anything you can feed it, with the exception of DivX, etc.
Upgrading firmware is just plain easy - download, burn to CD, insert CD in player, switch it off and on, wait, push one button when asked, wait, done.
The newest firmware versions have added some great options, but they come at a cost:
in earlier versions, folder selection was possible, on mp3 cd's/dvd's. Now the player just shows a flat list of mp3 files, be it sorted by directory, and then by filename. |

Superb shit! Plays DVD CDR MP3 (&VBR) VCD SVCD CDDA. Flawless player for what I've tested.

I bought it just yesterday and initially I was very disappointed because the 505 had problems to read some DVD-R (princo 4x DVD)and expecially the DVD-MP3 discs (that is the principal reason why I bought it).
I have updated the firmware to version 20761 (the procedure is very easy to handle) and now it works fine. Excellent audio output and video as well.
I have burned DVD-MP3 (princo 4x DVD) with Nero 55.917 (in express-mode) as an mp3 disc (not data disc), 841 files available (you can thousands of minutes of continuous music).
I don't think that there are other readers on the market with this quality (and functionalities) at this price.
It has been released a new hacked firmware rev.20762 (see the hack section).

Excelent universal DVD player, pity it cannot play DivX...
Player suffers from some minor software bugs, but a new firmware released about each 3 months and you can even download hacked one (Macrovis. off and region free/ selectable reg1).
I encountered a strange flickering problem when connected to SONY 100Hz tv, did anyone meet that problem as well?

There are still a few bugs that need fixing in the firmware, but even as it is, it's an excellent machine.
Plays even cheap Bulkpaq DVD-R discs.
MP3-DVD is excellent - store 1000 MP3s on DVD and play them like a jukebox.... |

Saludos desde España. De todos los reproductores que he podido probar este es el que mejor imagen y sonido me ha dado, dentro de la gama baja.
La calidad de la lente es aceptable en estos nuevos modelos, no tanto asi en los anteriores modelos de Cyberhome.
Le aleja de los 10 puntos, lo primero y primordial para mi, la incapacidad de leer subtitulos opcionales en svcd o cvd, un gran incoveniente sin duda. Tambien su poco acabado diseño de menus en pantalla que le da una imagen horrorosa al equipo.
A favor todo lo demas.. Esperemos que los de cyberhome se pongan las pilas y le actualizen via firmware la posibilidad de los subtitulos. |

Good player!
Look out for new firmware updates! Cyberhome is making a good job!
The last firmware update opens the opportunity to use jpg-CDs, even if mixed with mp3s on the same CD -> Choose if you want to hear the mp3s or want to see the jpg-pictures. (Could be faster with bigger jpgs).
