Amazing DVD-player:
Just updated to version DD20. Now I can play DVD+ on the player, I test 3 kinds (Commodore, Nashuatec and Octron) al works. The RW-DVD+ from Platinum also works.
Also mpg files on your dvd can be played directly The quality is not so good as a dvd

Update:
I tried Andrew Wall's suggestion for upgrading to ..DD20 Firmware: Downloaded from Cyberhome Site (only European available)and burned to CDR using Nero; named the CDR "MEDIATEK"; and loaded in machine; got a blue screen w/"stop" displayed...I guess the firmware took because you cannot select anything from this screen, although it doesn't keep you from entering setup. Anyway, after ejecting the disc, I am now able to play any DVD-R, VCD, SVCD or CDR in this unit. DVD+R still doesn't work (prompts "insert disc"), but from reading further down in this forum, it appears that Region 1 models like mine (Mfg. Date Oct 2002) will more than likely never play the +R format...at least not until an updated firmware becomes available.
Since I have several DVD-R discs that I created, plus the Region Free Hack active, I'm pretty satisfied at this point.

I purchased this unit back in November 2004 to allow me to play/copy movies from other regions. After trying the posted regional hack, which worked great, I seem to be having problems playing burned DVD-r discs. The unit appears to read into infinity! I didn't worry about this at first, because I have several other dvd players and recorders at home. I found a couple of firmware updates from one of the postings in this forum...unfortunately, they were found at a cyberhome-european site, which means the instructions are, or appear to be french, german, yittish or something other than english (no offense intended).
I was able to download 2 updates; ..DA71B2 and a ..DD20. Can anyone more worldly than myself, give a detailed desciption on what should be done? I could probably figure part of it out (like burn it to a cd), but are there are any specific instructions, such as, "...after completion of this step, do not select next, instead eject the disc"...if you can follow what I mean.
Thanks in advance for your help.

This player has stood me well. Unlike my other Hitachi this will play everything : from VCD / SVCD, DVD-R, KVCD, SKVCD, KDVD. The only slight problem is a slight sync issue with KVCD's towards the end of the disc.
But saying this for the price I think it's an excellent buy. All of my DVD-R's have played using Datawrite Red V3 Discs, including a mix of SVCD and SKVCD titles on one DVD. I would really recommend this player to anyone (and have) as a good, all round, and inexpensive player. |

Very cheap player. It plays a lot of formats and has digital audio output and a lot of rear conectors. The best of all the players that price when I buyed it.
The menu and screen (startup) are a little crapy.
Havn't had any luck playing DVD-R burnt with my liteon 812S, but I've only tried one brand of media (Agiler --> really don't buy these). Try some more soon as I see most people have been able to play DVD-R's. |

Hi,
bought this Player 2 weeks ago, everything works fine( VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD ) especially the Jpeg slideshow.
I was also very impressed because this player reads every mpeg1 or 2 file from an ISO-CD-R and plays them like a slideshow one after the other - cool feature
- but now the reason why I gave the Player back - the picture quality of the films are really poor.
Today I watched the original DVD " The 13th Floor" and I thought I watch a poor SVCD- no joke. Very noiseful.
The picture quality of my Pioneer 350 is by far better.

I've had this thing for a couple years now and still I'm amazed at what it can do... It'll take almost anything I can throw at it. I just wish it did VCD subs... (Oh, and MPEG-4, but the player's really too old for that...)
I just wish they'd bring out a firmware fix that enabled VCD subs and made the player not crash when doing a lot of seeking in SVCDs. |

| After media issues and reading about the firmware update, my Cyberhome 402 will now (after firmware update) play DVD+R media. It does have problems on long films, they start stuttering and freezing, wether its a media issue or not i don't know ! I reckon its heat of the unit personnally! |

Very cheap and bulky but plays everything, only one problem though my unit died after 3 months.
Since i have found loads of reports on the internet about this unit and they all die between 2 months and 12. I would stay away from it. My dvd drive just keeps clicking now and the display is completly dead. |

The 402 will not play any DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW for me. I see that is supposed to be compatible but I'm having no luck. It will play any type of CD I burn.

Ok ive noticed a few people complain about thier -r disks start to skip about 40-60min into the movie. At first i didnt really notice this because my -r disks all played fine. That was when i was using my toshiba 2x -r burning. I switched to a micro advantage 4x multiformat burner and -r disks produced in that drive will start to stutter and skip after about an hour. This disks that stutter in the 402 do not stutter on my sisters machine.
I even put the toshiba back in my computer and recopyed some disks that where created by the microadvantage drive(stutters in 402). These disks recreated by the toshiba drive do not stutter. I have no clue why it does this, but the type of burner is created the stutter. |

I've burned a bunch of VCDs without problem.
Burned a DVD using Comp USA -R media and no dice. It worked in the PS2 but not this unit.
I reburned the same dvd using the +R media that came with the drive and still no dice. |

| Had no problems at all with this player till recently when got dvd-writer. Plays dvd-rs and dvd-rws I created find until after first hour or so of film when it just keeps freezing and jerking. Tried discs on other people players and work fine so going to have to get new player!! |

Forget upgrading a US model. I also have a US model. I directly got the new firmware (DD20) from Cyberhome on disk. It doesn't do anything.
Contacted Cyberhome, the only thing I could do was send my player to them.
They forgot there was also another thing I could do............ I sold it and bought me a JVC who plays everything (without upgrading firmware)

Started to work almost ok after flashing to DD20, but... I have a movie copied to a Verbatim DVD-R. The problem is that during some areas of the film, the playback begins to stutter. The movie freezes every few frames to 0,5-1 sec. Does it also happen to any of you? Any solutions? My e-mail is redscorpion@aztec.pl

Took two back to Richer sounds in Bristol, had trouble with audio CD/MP3 playback, lots of distortion and bass sounded like someone banging a hammer inside my speakers maybe a dodgy batch.
Good picture and DVD audio
Play's mpeg
Disc tray cheap and klonky
Some buttons on remote needed firm push.
Traxdata and memorex discs broke my mp3 tracks up into 4 diferent tracks could just be firmware

| Somebody was saying about download firmware DD20 using neroimage and it works when update CH-DVD 402. Please show us how to do this. When I click on the link, all I see were firmware download but it won't work on my US DVD player. |

There are two existing versions of this player: the old one with firmwareversions looking DD?? and the newer one with firmware DA????. I have the newer player and never have had any problems with all DVD+-R/RW, regardless what brand (f.ex. EMTEC, PLATINUM, SK, PANASONIC, PRINCO, ...). So I guess most problems posted in former time exist on the old player.
I burn with NEC1300A, firmware 1.08 and NERO 5.5. |
