Comments:
Cant read MPEG format, need to apply .mpg extention to files i.e. .dat files unreadable by player even though it is MPEG1.

having trouble reading JPEG's, I have tested afew with 2M in size.

Player seems to take it's time reading cd info roughly 5 - 7 seconds before playing CD.

found the player twice to hang in standby mode, had to un-plug to cure.

Comments:
this player is the biggest pile of rubbish i have ever bought it only plays a few divx movie keep getting a message say wrong file content even on files that worked on my old divx player. does not play all dvd-r a total waste of the 35.99 i paid for it.
i would stay right away from this player and missis songs on mp3 disk might be a media prob .but that means it does not like memorex datawrite and maxall dvd-rw. all these played in my old one

this is going back to the shop . would have give it 0-10 if there was a 0 there but 1 is the lowest number i could have give it its a waste of power
do not buy this

Comments:
Tested various samples of DivX and XviD movies with and without (multi-language) subtitles, etc.

See the samples at: http://www.mpeg4-players.info/download/DivX.Test.CD.v1.0/

AC3 (Dolby Digital) coded DivX/XViD sound is sent over the coax to my AV-receiver ok.

Multiple soundtracks are supported.

Some extreme combinations of VBR-MP3 with high bandwith video lead to stumbling output.

Also: the player skips .ogg and .ac3 sound files.

@Newsgroupie: All the scanlines of (2-line) DivX subtitles are sent to my RGB TV when I Setup the CH-DVD 401ZE Video to output 16:9, Original, PAL, RGB.
Did you try a different screen presentation mode already on your TV (like 16:9 /w subtitling, which is available at least on the Philips PAL TV that I use) ?

Comments:
Very content with this player, will mainly use it for divx playback.
One question to my fellow Dutchmen or any other that can answer; I only see the top line of my divx subtitles (*.srt), and just a slight part of the lower line. The remains of the lower line is displayed outside the screen. Is there a way to fix this ? I have tried every video setting but these only apply to the video, the subs are not affected.
Does the firmware upgrade fix this ? Do I need to use another subtitle file format (*.sub) ?
Any help is appreciated!!

CyberHome DVD-player 401 S(ilver) - CH-DVD 401ZE

I played several Audio-CD's and Joliet CD's with .MP3 files and a single commercial DVD. With 1 .MP3 disc, that was slightly overburned with more than 700 MB, the player's servo produced a scratchy sound. After updating the firmware that problem went away completely. An old commercial Audio CD that physically rumbled in a Philips 763SA Matchline DVD-player, played flawlessly on the 401.

After reading several reviews from others too, my evaluation is:

Pros:

. low price (EUR 39, excl. SCART cable, MediaMarkt Netherlands)
. small silver case/housing
. plays lots of discs and formats:
DivX, CD-Audio (CD-DA), MP3 (VBR and even 320 kbps !), WMA, ...
. fast disc recognition/loading
. low motor/servo noise (after firmware update)
. update firmware via owner burned CD-R(W) (jan 2005: Mpeg: EU401Z.V7.HD62.010,
http://www.cyberhome.de/en/Downloads-index-req-viewsdownload-sid-11.html)
. sharp SCART RGB digital video output (multi-norm, PAL, NTSC, and even NTSC-disc to PAL-TV ?)
. raw and PCM coax digital audio output (96/48 kHz PCM CD-DA, Dolby Digital * 5.1)
. shows most MP3 ID3-tag details on TV screen
. use remote control to make the player DVD region-free
. transparant background DVD subtitling
. lots of easy OSD setup menu controlled features

Cons:

. noise in analog audio output (96 kHz / 24 bit DA, 86 dB)
. noise in analog S-Video output (10 bit 54 MHz DA)
. high power consumption in standby mode (1.9-3.3 W), no power switch, short life expected
. no DTS digital audio output (not even with RAW output ?)
. does not read DVD-Audio discs (but I don't have those anyway)
. no local display (must use TV to walk an MP3 CD that has subfolders),
max. 64 chars (but typically the 1st 20 chars) of a filename are shown
. remote control (RMC-300Z) is powered by single 3V CR 2025 Li cell, not by AAA-batteries

Total:

. excellent value for money (will the Chinese ever stop ?)
. great performance when connected to digital audio input AV-receiver (CINCH coax)
and RGB input TV (SCART)
