I have the problem, that after about an hour the player freezes often for some seconds and continues playing. N/A No rating Comments: I also own this player and it plays a lot of formats very well. Seems there is a problem with the heat. You shouldn't play DVDs or (S)VCDs when it's hot. I have the problem, that after about an hour the player freezes often for some seconds and continues playing. Often showing DVD broken, only when played a little bit. Very disturbing. When switching off, waiting for half an hour it playes fine.

Tested with Media from Intenso, Ricoh, Verbatim. My Writer is Ricoh MP5125A (+r/+rw, 1.51). Greetings: mike

N/A 7 of 10 MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Nice DVD player. Plays almost everything. The only problem was that when it had been turned on for a while, it wouldn't read/detect any CD's anymore. It could only detect DVD's. The only cure to this was to turn the thing off for like half an hour, then turn it on and watch the 2nd cd of a movie (VCD/SVCD). Very annoying. My Cyberhome died in a thunderstorm, now I've bought a Samsung S-224. I hope the Samsung doesn't have the overheating problem.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Referring to the pixelization issue: I decided to retest my Cyberhome's VCD/SVCD playing capabilities by inserting a cd I made with one clip encoded several times in TMPGEnc using multiple VCD templates burned in Nero. The result still was as desastrous as it was more than a year ago: pixels flooding all over the place. Then I remembered a post which mentioned a difference in burning a VCD using a burner equipped with BURNProof and one without. My burner, a HP 9210i 8x SCSI burner, happened to fall in the latter category... Since three months I also have a laptop with a BURNProof writer, so I tried burning the same BIN I made before on it. Guess what. No more pixels whatsoever! Instead of throwing the Cyberhome out of the window I now worship it :-)

Plays all formats of VCD and SVCD Still photos. (Importance: 5). Cyber Home is great connected to my Cambridge SoundWorks FPS2000 Digital. (Importance: 5) :-( Very rarely, if you insert a VCD it doesn´t display photos. Just a black screen! Very rarely, the DVD stops playing! Image freezes(Importance: 3) Its a bit big! (Importance: 2)

CVD? $140 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I used to burn my VCD's and SVCD's with nero, but since i use EasyVCD the quality and the playability has improved very much! With (X)SVCD's the quality is superb! Fast forward and reverse work great now! With a Nero burnt SVCD, using the 8x fast forward during the movie would lock up the movie. That's history now. With VCDEasy i added different subtitles and audio tracks with no problems. Seamless chapters can be added also. Dolby Surround sound is supported in SVCD's also. I don't see the use of buying a DVD player three times the price with half the options. Especially the option of disabling the macrovision copy protection is useful for playing a DVD through your VCR, and perhaps recording it on tape for a backup. Again, VCDEasy produces the best (X)(S)VCD's for this player! Downgrading the firmware works fine. Image Quality is good, sound Quality is good also. Don't use the dolby digital cable that came with it. Buy a better one which is coax and double shielded or use a Toslink optical cable for better Dolby Digital Sound. I was able to hear the difference, it's worth the investment! The toslink and coax double shielded cable produced the same good audio quality, the supplied cable produced poor audio quality.

CVD? $140 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: This player is a bargain,I've had mine for a year, with no problems downgrading the firmware, it plays VCDs burnt with nero, I have had no pixellation problems at all with VCD or SVCD. I primarily use mine to play VCDs I have created from captured Home video footage, although I have ripped a couple of DVD's just for the hell of it, both reproduce superbly on VCD and play great on this machine, certainly far better that if I had copied my camcorder to VHS. Furthermore i have copied DVD to VHS (switching off the macrovision)(for personal use), & this produced v high quality vhs.

CVD? $140 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Great quality player. Superb build quality and picture for the money.BUT, I purchased it because I needeed a player that could play both DVD-R and DVD-RW. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to play anything I have wrote on Verbatim DVD media disks. The fact that you can turn off region coding and macrovision (with the firmware downgrade) is to me a massive PLUS. That aside the CDR and CD-RW playback is excellent and I most definately recommend purchasing one of these.

CVD? $140 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Initially I experienced the VCD and SVCD pixelation that other users have described. I used several different brands of CD but with little or no improvement. However, having just upgraded to a new Burnproof writer, I have NO pixelation at all.

CVD? $160 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: There is number of serious issues with this machine. DVD playback is great, multiregion and macrovision off works after downgrading OS to 9.8 or lower. But still, all the extras this box known for don't come in quality most of the users would like to see. To begin with - both VCD and SVCD have problem with pixelisation. And it's not high bitrate, it's not color of CDs, it's not burning software nor speed of burning. No matter what you do most of your VCDs will be affected by pixelisation, the closer to the middle of CD the more visible the effect. I have exchanged my machine twice, flashed it with 3 different OS revisions, changed 80min generic "silver" CDRs to Sony CDQ 74's, then HiSpace, tried two burners. Every single VCD sample i burned plays fine on my old Sony 315, looks good on my gf's Pioneer but is still flooded with pixels on Cyberhome 512. As for mp3 playback - cause I'd be happy to keep the player just for this one single feature - you don't get to see playlist on the screen. So in effect even this feature is backwards. CyberHome 512 might be seen as a £119 bargain, but with it's external monstrosity, plenty of labels on the front claiming compatibility it doesn't deliver and hell ugly remote IMHO it still remainds more of Trabant than Volkswagen quality and therefore turns out to be complete waste of £119.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Player has a lot to offer for a low price. Quality seems to be good. I doesn't have that cheapo look that some players have... Sometimes it takes a while to load, especially with VCD and MP3 disks. It's better to turn power off and on if you want to play from another disk. This prevented hick-ups with playing my vcd's. Downgrade to version 8.0 to select region or to make region free. Also the possibility to turn off Macrovision, so you van make a VHS backup of your DVD. Since every DVD player has something that isn't compatible or something that isn't working (also with Sony, Pioneer, JVC DVD Players), i prefer the Cyberhome. Remote works fine, it has some glow in the dark buttons on it. TV automatically switches to DVD when i turn the DVDplayer on (using scart cable). Also has RGB output via scart for better image quality. My second choice was a Samsung 5DVD changer, but they told me that the Macrovision couldn't be turned off there... Overall: A good player!
