For some reason it is not playing my DVD+Rs. The same played fine in the Terrapin progressive scan DVD player from Frys (same cost 50 - 20 mail in rebate).

Great player for the price. Got this free from a company for redeaming UPC codes.
Plays everything I want it to play (almost). Will not play raw MPEG's or AVI.
I was using a Pioneer DV-440, but it did not do PAL and didn't have progressive scan.
This one has it all.
A search of the web shows this selling for around $45, so for that price, may get a couple for gifts.
Works flawlessly on VCD, SVCD, DVD + and - R, and DVD+RW. Reads JPEG and MP3's on CD's. |

So far the unit has played everything I put in it including a freshly burned DVD-R's from my E80H.
Cheap, Sleek, 5.1 audio out, YBR and RCA. No Coax though, had to buy an RCA to Coax converter from Walmart 17.00 that works great. My VCR combo TV only had Coax on the kids TV. |

| Got this player for christmas as a cheap alternative to my broken Cyberhome CH-DVD 500. Been very happy with this drive, the dvd-r and dvd+r media I have been using to make back up of dvds have all played on this player. If you want a cheap dvd player that plays most dvds, this is the player I recommend. |

| I wanted to get rid of my sony 560d which is nearing the end of its life due to a hardware design bug. It simply would not play home authored DVD+R anymore. I also wanted a system to replace this sony with a 5.1 channel analog output and I must say that the coby 515 is a perfect replacement for sony 560d. It has all the features of 560d plus it can play mp3s, jpgs and its less than $70. |

I picked this up 9-26-03 at the new Fry's Electronics near Seattle, WA. I wanted to play VCD/SVCDs without going to the trouble of ripping the MPEGs and burning to DVD+R, which is what I had been doing. Authored with Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0 and burned with HP DVD200i.
Also my existing Toshiba SD1600 was having trouble with DVD-Rs that I was receiving in trades through the mail, and downloading as well. I heard that the many various cheapo units available now would play just about anything you put in them, so I decided to give it a try.
What a great day. I hooked it up and it played VCD/SVCDs beautifully, also my home authored DVD+Rs, and the DVD-Rs I had received in trades.
It's a very slim unit with a nice LED display. My wife and I watched movies all weekend and the Coby showed no problems.
I should also mention that the staff at Fry's let me use one of their computers to browse this website and look up the Coby. That was because the salesman on the phone called it a "Colby." I had forgotten about it until I saw the display model, then I wanted to know more but had no way of finding out without this website--so, thanks! |

| Tried Philips DVD+RW and Verbatim DVD+R and TDK CD-RW. All worked great so far - although limited testing. Played mpeg1, mpeg2, jpg, and mp3 files from DVD+RW and CD-RW. Has 6 channel RCA output from DOlby decoder (manual also claims it is DTS decoder) - but haven't tested this. Also has Coax and Toslink connectors for digital out. A big surprise was the VGA output connector. Hooked it up to 17# HP LCD to test. Picture looked nice - only thing I noticed was some very faint vertical lines. I didn't mess with any settings (can adjust sharpness, brightness and contrast in player) to see if it would totally go away. Pretty nice remote too and drive seems fairly quit. Overall - I'm impressed. |
