Media:Raite 4x DVD-R, Memorex DVD+RW 2.4x Firmware: 1.77 Decoder hardware chip: MT1388-E DivX quality is great, and plays .smi subtitles. SVCD quality is NOT good, and in the manual there's no info about SVCD. DVD quality is good. MP3 no quality test, no long file names. Didn't get it to work with Mpeg-4 files.(Can't say if I did something wrong) MINUS: Need to stop player to get in to the OPTIONS menu. No smooth DivX subtitles PLUS: Plays DivX,MP3 files on DVD.

WMA CVD? $125 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: As another user mentioned earlier, can't play movies with coded as wma v2. Had to demux it and add it as a second MP3 stream. (Used Virtual Dub.) Have also files larger then 2 gb so I used UDF-formated DVD. Player can read avi-files but all subs are marker as unknown format. Have also problems to show some subtitles for other movies. Works OK on the dummy. It might be the length of filename or the total length. (down two directories) "Matrix Revolutions\CD1\Matrix Revolutions (2003 WS AC3 5ch) CD 1 of 3.sub"

I've bought it on www.netonnet.de by 83 euros. Trasfer costs to Finland was 53 euros.

Tried 25 DIVX movies, 3 did not work but they where coded with audio codec divx(wma). all the rest plays fine. I use techwood firmware 1.84 good subtitles support I have playd DVD-r with 6 avis on them. no problemo. Home burnt svcds and so on. This little cheap DVD really works for me. its my ONLY player now. Sometimes it wont jump to chapters in Svcd, BUT I have not tested if they where authored without chpaters yet. anyway I use search time function to jump to what ever point in the movie. And now they,NetOnNet,have dropped the price to about 100 euros.So i bought one a couple a days ago.The first thing i did (although it's new) was to open it up and mount a small heatsink on the ESS-chip.I know for a fact that Geminis (the 12mb04 motherboard OMEGA-chip)had severe problems with the heat in the past,and i have a feeling that this is not so wellknown.A heatsink on that made a whole world of difference,no longer hacks in the picture,frozen picture and so on.Although sometimes it's a bad reader (not so often). Well,back to the 332,i have tried vcd, svcd,dvd,divX,Xvid,cda,mp3,dvd-mp3 and mpg. So far it has not hasitate a bit.The reader in it is the old DSL710,that have been used for several years now.So it should be in it's prime of it's life...? The player is slick,quiet and the remote is much better than the old one. Pic-quality really descent as well as the sound. Building-quality low, no match for my JVC (xv n5) Have upgraded it with fw 1.77 (really easy). A couple of more fw-upgrades and it's a bargain divx-player,but hey, it already is..!!! Anyone have a macrovisionfree fw out there? Best regards, Bill, Sweden.

Press "MENU", "1", "3", "5", "7" and you will be able to see the region and firmware version of the player. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OR The info screen tells you the chipset: 1. Press Open, Menu, 7, 4, 2, 0. 2. This brings up the info screen telling you the firmware version etc. Possible results and options available for each result: Player Version: STCinemaster 3.388 - Vestel 3.06b9 Driver Version: 401, Build 706-Configurable-1 Region Code: Configurable, All Drive Type: Type 0-ATAPI, DVS-LDRDSL-710A, LT37 Memory Config: 8192KB SMI, 0KB EMI, 5519 Audio DAC: CS4335-3 ------------------ Chipset: Main decoder chip: Take a look at the line 'Memory Config' and look at the end of the line. This tells you whether your player works with the 5508 chip or the 5519 (like shown above). Audio DAC chip: Take a look at the last line. It tells you the name of the chip, in this case it's the 'CS4335' and how many of them are present. '-3' means that there are 3 of them (that's the case for my 5.1 player with 3 stereo(2-channel)-Audio DACs which makes 6 channels). Drive Type: Look at that line. It should be an ATAPI device anyway. Almost every player around comes with a DVS drive 'DSL-710A'. The drive's firmware (not that one of the dvd player) is shown at the end of the line. Here, it's 'LT 3.7'. If the menu shows 5508 for the chipset (or it doesn't show 5519), then it's bad luck for now. There's no new firmware available for the time being. If it shows 5519, then you may have either a mainboard maked '12MB03' (older players) or '12MB04' (all the recently manufactured). You may open you dvd player case and look for yourself or just try the update: if you've got massive picture problems, it was a 12mb03 and you have to modify the firmware before you try the update again. (The version information is printed on the mainboard on right side near the big chip (plugs facing backwards). It may be hidden partly under a label, but you most likely see the '04' (in case it's a 12MB04).)

Any mpeg/avi/mp3 burned on BulkDVD.net DVD-R 4 X media with my LaCie DVD +/-RW works flawlessly. The file browser is great with small preview windows for every movieclip; I only wish it could have supported long filenames too. Fast forward/rewind only in 8X, and sometimes it can mess up the sound sync in DivX/Avi movies.
