CVD? $100 N/A 4 of 10 Comments: This player is ok if you want a good little dvd player only for the family. I have done many tests on this machine and found it not suitable for for certain area's in the market. MP3 yes VCD yes you can play vcd with the goto trick SVCD yes again using the goto trick DVD-R Mixed is not supported difficult to get1 working without skipping freezing etc. DVD-RW Mixed again not supported DVD+R yes/No 3 types tried Bulkpac Failed Datawrite Ok Ritek GO4 Mixed Your choice This isnt the best area of this machine. I Bought it to play MP3 and back DVD. But unfortunatly its so hit and miss I have decided to take it back to the shop. But if you want it as a DVD player only its not bad. It plugs into surround sound no problem and the Quality of sound is very good. DVD play back quality is ok But not as good as some other lower end market players. Well what do you expect from a $100 dollar machine. The design is very nice and a tidy looking player

N/A 8 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: can somebody tell me how to play vcds, im not sure if i have a true vcd though, tried 3 diff computer vcd copies(two were films from vcds copied onto disc via computer) even with the trick it just loads and the tray opens itself,help. these computer discs of bad boys and hulk play at the wrong speed in my panasonic dvdd recorder

N/A No rating Comments: Been playing with this player for a couple of weeks now...goto hack does not work.Multi region works fine and comes up as 9.Also read a report that the bush player i have is really a alba 108 just badged up as a bush 2023.Is this true ????

I have backed up all my dvd's, and none of them play either dvd+r, dvd+rw, dvd-r, dvd-rw. I even tried putting holliday film onto dvd, and this didn't work either. Another problem this player has, is that it won't play all original dvd's. I have had probs with Pirates of the Carabbean, Terminator 3, The Hulk, both Lord of the Rings. It just says "no disc". What a complete waist of money

CVD? $100 N/A 5 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: This player is ok as a stand alone DVD player with extra's as MP3 & CDR CDRW caperbilities. When it comes to DVD-R/+R this is where it is let down by performance hit miss. Im tired of trying different DVD-R to see if my backup will work with this machine. I have tried Datawrite/GO4/Bulkpac/Ritek/Datasafe to mention a few all with different problems. The truth is that this player is not supportive in this area so its upto you if you want spend money or waste money on the right DVD-+R that will work with it. In my opinion its not worth the hassle. When it comes to VCD/SVCD yes you can get it to work using the goto trick as previously mentioned. The design is sleek and the noise level is good you can hardly hear it. It can be connected to a surround sound system and the quality of sound is very good. The Quality of picture leaves a little to be desired.its ok nothing fancy. When matched against other lower market players. Danzi/Mustek/Yamada/Ranges it is left well behind in performance. But you can not argue the point that for $100 or £50 you pick up a ok DVD player nothing more. Hope this helps GRS2

N/A No rating Comments: Go for the BUSH 2035 This bush machine plays everything you put in. VCD & SVCD with NO CODES REQUIRED Just bought mine from local (CO-OP) shop for £59.99 and is a little gem of a machine, in both looks and operation.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Just though i'd quickly add to the above, managed a non standard SVCD at DVD res (720x576) and a bit rate of 5000kps with no problems. Didn't try anything higher.

CVD $125 N/A 2 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I have been using an ALBA DVD 103 DVD Player for the past year and a half (this was my first DVD Player). It played almost everything I threw at it including VCDs and SVCDs I burnt using NERO etc. Also played DVD-Rs quite well also and MP3s. However, I have now been porting all my home videos onto DVD+R and DVD+RW which my Alba 103 can't handle so well. It can read the more expensive DVD+R media i.e. HP branded but not the cheaper INTENSO or DATAWRITE branded DVD+R. All these have been authored using the latest version of NERO and ULEAD DVD Moviefactory/Workshop. So I decided to upgrade my DVD Player and went intially for the ALBA DVD 114 from ARGOS for £69.99. I ordered the ALBA DVD 108 from the catalogue but received the 114. As stated above I could not get the Alba to play or my DVD+R and DVD+RW discs, even the HP branded DVD+R that worked fine on my ALBA 103. The unit did however recognise and play the VCDs and SVCDs quite well. After playing around with it for a while I got fed up and took the unit back to Argos and changed it for the £84.99 BUSH DVD 2023. The BUSH DVD 2023 played all my DVD+R and DVD+RW discs okay, but I could not get it to recognise or play any of my VCDs or SVCDs at ALL! So I got fed up and took it back. After browsing the web I found many recommedations for the SHARP DV-740H (a Sampo clone) from Argos for £129.99. I also found a brilliant website (in addition to VCDHELP.COM) named AREA450 (http://www.area450.com/). After much thought I decided to try my luck once more. On visiting 5 of my local Argos Stores in Central and South East London, I was initially offered a substitute model SV1 which is totally different to the Sharp DV740. After visiting more stores I finally found 1 remaining Sharp DV740H unit at Argos in Holloway (London). I have just tried out all my various discs: VCDs and SVCDs (purchased and authored using Nero) DVD+R and DVD+RW (Intenso, Infiniti, Datawrite, HP: self authored using NERO, and also recorded using the Philips DVDR880) DVD-R (purchased only NOT authored) EVRYTHINGS plays!!! I am very happy. It was the best £129.99 I spent. I now look forward to playing around with my new machine over the next few weeks... MAKTIGER

CVD? $125 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: bought a alba 108 last week for downstairs was so impressed that it played every disc i through at it went to buy another one for bedroom only to find out they had changed it for a 108ix that didnt play anything at all apart from dvd. so i bought a bush 2023 instead, to my amazement when i got home i found that i was an alba 108 with just a diffrent front on it every thing else is identical, all the codes from the alba work first time every time and plays every thing i through at it apart from dvd audio amazing from a sub £100 machine. 9/10 only if a maco hack can be found then it would score 10/10

CVD? $125 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: This gets an 8 purely for VFM alone! I was almost ready to ship this back when I read the ratings on this site (it was ordered by the wife for her freind). Good job I didn't, it not only plays DVD+R's but also unfinalised DVD+RW's! I have some copied DVD's that jerk on both my players (Phillips recorder 980, and Samsung 709. But on this it was very smooth with no jerks. Having said that, the picture quality whilst good, is not brilliant. (But what do you expect for £99?) Another thing thats worth noting is that strangely enough, this plays both region 1 and 2 disks straight out of the box. All it needs is a Macrovision hack and it would be a perfect budget player!

CVD? $175 N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Nice new player - paid £80 ukp for it - does mp3 at various bitrates, multi-region out of the box. It plays vcds and svcds on cdr and cdrw, however you have to use a "trick" to get vcds/svcds to play (close dvd draw press "goto" button repeatedly while disk is loading then press "1" to play. It is an excellent budget player with the only downside being the messing around needed to play vcds and svcds.
