Generally this is an excellent system but it will not play any DVD-R media, even top branded Taiyo Yuden DVD's.

For those that have burned DVD-R's that work on this system - software are you using to convert AVI and burn please?

Burned a DVD+R DL using Verbatim media in a LaCie DVD+/-RW double layer drive and it played fine in my Lifestyle 35.

This is my second lifestyle system.

I am very pleased with this system.

If you buy one, take the time to install adapti-q.

It REALLY DOES WORK

Comments:
Does not seem to work with any home authored DVDs.

The media is unrecognized, even if I make an unmodified copy of another program onto DVD-RW or DVD-R they fail to play in this player.

Audio/MP3/VCD CD-R/RW all work fine in any combination.

Also has trouble with *some* Audio-DVDs (the player doesn't support DVD-A, however it should play the DVD-Video portion of the disk like other players do). Note this *may* be a problem with the DVD-A specifications and not the player. Some players just might happen to play the incorrect DVD-A media.

Used Nero to burn SVCDs from AVIs downloaded from the Internet. Also tried disk on Lifestyle 28 and 321 (I know someone in a Bose retail shop!) and they also worked fine.
The lifestyle 35 is the best sounding integrated DVD Home theatre system Iv'e seen. DVD picture is superb using SVHS or component (no progressive scan).
I bought the 35 and took it home, the Adaptiq audio calibration is uncanny - somehow tunes the system to the room. Wow!
A few firmware bugs exist such as the "movie EQ" keeps turning itself on, but nothing serious enough to complain to Bose.
The RF/IR remote is cool... controls my Tv and satellite box from another room!
Finally, it's small size means my wife is finally happy. The Cerwin Vegas are gone for good!
Enough said, I'm happy!

I thought that I would add that DVD-R media does play in the LS35. This was cheap media from CompUSA under the "SmartDisc" name, and then some noname media from PC Club that was $10 for a 10 pack spindle.

I tried VCD and SVCD with no luck, which sucks. Overall, this is a very good sounding system..

Used PrimoDVD and RecordNow Max to burn DVD-R's.

Bose does not come out and say Dolby Digital 5.1, but they say that it will decode 5.1 audio on DVD's.. Maybe they're too cheap to license the logo from Dolby Labs.

Have ripped many a DVD and everything works and sounds as good as the original.

Comments:
I recently purchased this entertainment system and the sound is great (what do you expect). If you want compatibility, however, look elsewhere because the DVD player can't even play VCDs. It plays MP3 CDs, but there's not folder view or navigation. It plays like a regular CD player, with the display showing "CD Track xx".
Overall, it's a wonderful player but I'd be more pleased if it played more formats. Also, it's kind of a hassle to set up.
