| Got this player new via E-bay. Works well both in car and home with various rented DVD's. I had a choice between this or the 1730 but reviews on this site convinced me to go with this older unit. The screen is clear, bright and has great resolution. The remote also works well. I set up the kids Game-cube to work through it in the car as well and that works great too. The sound out of it is good too but... the volume seems to drop off after a few hours of in-car kid use. All in all I am very happy with it. With some guidance from this site I hope to be making my own DVD's soon and playing them on this unit as well. |

| Very good player for the money. Nice big LCD screen and plays almost everything I put in it. No smart-navi menu to play loose MPEG files but that's a small point. THis player is being closed out now for as little as $300. It's a steal at that price because a 6.8 inch LCD screen alone is worth that. |

This is a great full featured player! It does DVD, VCD, CD, SVCD, CVD, and MP3 discs. I don't have DVD+-R or RW so not tested. Send a disc to me & I'll try it.
It runs the VCDimager (S)VCD test discs well. A CVD test disc I made worked well although I'm not 100% sure on audio on that one, skipping just a little.
The unit worked well in the car & a plane. We found that it didn't tend to skip on vibration unless the media was dirty - make sure your discs are clean.
The region hack with remote worked well for regions 1-6, no region zero was available.
Battery life appears great & it is a Lithium Ion so you can charge anytime, no memory. Bottom can get warm but that is typical.
With all the input & output options (AV in & out, optical dolby out, svideo out when off battery), it puts the new Apex portable units to shame! I tested a Apex at Circuit City - although $120 less, it was crap compared to this - spend the extra money for the Audiovox. |

| I love this littl thing. People whine that its chunky or big, but its really not that big. We're so use to getting TV's the size of our fingernail to the point where really small electronics are "HUGE". I mean, if your planning on traveling , this thing fits perfectly in any case you buy. Get over it, its a great toy. The screen is amazing. Great size. PERFECT DVD player in my mind. |

This thing has basically replaced my Sony DVD player. Even though its a portable, the full feature remote, optical, s-video and composite outputs, etc... make it a fully featured player. Others have complained about some skipping, etc... but I haven't noted any--even using it on a city bus on the crappy streets of Chicago!
Documentation claims 3.5 hours of battery life, but I thing this is LOW! I have watched 2+ movies over several days without a recharge. The battery itself is pretty big and clunky, but hey, the machine is cheap and it last forever.
Also like the full 4:3 screen (rather letterbox only on a lot of others). Gives me a great big picture catching up on 24 on the morning commute.
Overall a great player. Considering the price, this baby rocks. |

| I bought this unit in march for $479 at Target and just love it. I am still learning about it but it plays everything I ask of it except DVD+RW (that's a whole different story). The audio is very good and the screen size/picture quality is superb. I was a little leery of the brand name but of all the new technology I've recently bought (laptop computer, handheld PC, new desktop PC, digital camcorder, digital camera, mp3 jukebox... I'm a technology junkie) this is by far my favorite new toy. |

I must say I have had this player for some time and I love the features.. I do have some issues with burning svcd/vcd onto a cdrw it is much more skippy and jittery then a cdr (however I only have 1 kind of cdrw so it may just be the brand)
The only thing I dont like about this player at the moment is that you can not create a working vcd/svcd menu system. You can use the previous and the next keys to go from your menus.. however you can not create a multi-level menu system where you enter the key 1 and it goto that menu (or chapter, or video)
According to Audiovox this player does not read multiple folders so it is "not possible to create a multi-level menu system"
Other then that I love this player.. plays everything the box says just fine.. a small problem with the unit smelling hot, but both the manual and customer support say that it is normal for this unit.

This is an awesome portable DVD player. I got a great
deal($399 + tax) from target stores during the
Thanksgiving sale. I was a bit skeptical about buying
an Audiovox product. I was pleasantly surprised by the
picture quality. Comes with all the things needed such as cigerette lighter adapter, ac adapter, ear phones,
remote control, video cables etc etc .
Heck.. this one has the multiregion hack too. I was able to getto the hack screen. I do not have a different region dvd to test it out though.
I am still trying to find an extra battery for this puppy. The limited viewing angle bothers me.. but
what more to expect for $399.

| Plays all CD-Rs and CD-RWs, including the cheap CompUSA CDRs and DigitalMedia CDRWS(Circuit City?) brands, says it plays SVCDs and MP3s but aven't tested yet. Quality is very good, sound is better than most portables I have tried, but one problem: viewing angle of the screen is bothersome. Screen doesn't tilt back as much as it probably should, and looking from above the screen is washed out. Resolution is absolutely gorgeous when looking on the right angle, which is straight on from a slight distance from the screen -- a CDR burned from the Terapin looks almost 3-D at the right viewing angle. Audiovox will sell a spare battery (only 3 1/2 hours, though) for $100 direct from the manufacturer plus shipping. Pretty good for the price (for a portable, that is), which is $499 from Costco's on-line store (plus $8 shipping and $23 tax). |
