Funny, Play Fujifilm DVD+R (Media Code: RICOHJPN-R00), But dont take Memorex 4x DVD+R (Media Code: RICOHJPN-R01). Because of the Media? Or writer? or both?

Won't play Memorex 4X DVDD+R disks. I've burned them on different computers using different burners. It plays -R disks just fine.

I think this is a basic incompatibility. If the guy who got it to play +R disks could repost which type of disk he was using and how he burned the disk, it might convince me otherwise.

Theree is no firmware updates out there as far as I know.

Otherwise the player works great. Sound and Picture are above average and the battery life is OUTSTANDING

As an FYI, CostCo is currently selling this unit for US$279 (plus tax where applicable).
I don't know if their units come with the same extras as the "full retail" boxes, though.
So far, I have been unable to find a region-free hack anywhere for this unit.

Comments:
The unit is an AudioVox D1730 (please don't cruicify me for the brand, I am on a budget) purchased at comp usa this week on a special for $359 ($90 price break). The unit itself is very sleek, it's pretty light as well. It plays just about everything under the sun dvd, dvd-r, dvd-rw, cd-r, cd-rw, mp3, vcd, svcd, mpeg 2 compression, and even very fast jpeg display. The display is 7" with a great picture and it has awsome q-sound (with like 10 different DSP mode types, tough I don't think it's DSP) when used with headphones in particular. It also has a bunch of different stretch modes and widescreen mode. It also includes a battery that lasts roughly 3 to 3 1/2 hours full screen full sound and a suspend mode that lasts for 5 hours if you only want to listen to mp3's. The kit also includes a car adaptor, svideo out, rca audio (stereo), video with a switch for input/output, and coaxial dolby didgital. The remote is also included and has a TON of great features I would never expect for a portable dvd player, like digest, chapter/time search, bookmarking, on screen OSD to change all sorts of options.

Now comes my major complaint. So far I have had experiences where the dvd player seems to pause and skip scenes and even sometimes as bad as freezing the whole system. Which means I have to cold reset and even sometimes after I do that it still won't load up and I have to take the dvd out and put it back in! I really don't understand this problem. The really weird thing is, last night I tried MULTIPLE dvd's(some BRAND NEW!!) which this happened to the prior day and it worked flawlessly. I wanted to exchange it but compusa said they have to replicate my problem at the "technical desk" which means my particular problem may or may not happen because the problem seems strangley intermitant. I also emailed audiovox but they have not responded.

If this unit had been working in perfect or near perfect condition I would rate it an 8 or 9, it's THAT good for the price. But so far with the obvious problems I have had it gets a 6!

Comments:
I have this unit in an OEM version from Wave-PC (Netherlands). It's really a great player. It seems to play anything. Even JPG's, all sorts of MPG's and MP3. No Divx. The only thing I don't get working is a proper display of widescreen movies. (not yet). The picture quality is very good. You can browse the folders on any ISO CD or DVD and select the files.
For JPG there is a limit to the size of the file. I don't know yet what this limit is. Pictures from my Minolta Dimage 7 are too big, so they need to be made smaller. I am very happy with this unit!
