No charge except for shipping and handling (padded envelope). terezs1090-spk@yahoo.com I have just purchased a Panasonic Dual Deck DVD/VCR Recorder/Player, Mfr. model #DMR-ES35VS. For $244 with a price match by Sears. Am VERY happy with it so far. No sound synch problems. Records 100% better than the Artec. It's not perfect but what is? Certainly not Artec although I am now bald because of the problems I had with it. Oh yeah, I need tranquilizers and a shrink to help me figure out why I put up with this hunk of junk for a year! I took my Artec apart and took out the recorder to examine it. It started smoking!! I think it may have been going for a while. My son said the recorder can't be replaced with a different model as it wouldn't work with the software. It looks to be just a plain old ordinary computer DVD recorder. FYI: the back of the recorder = DVD+/RW Drive. Model #: VOM-4B12J. Power = DC 5V 2.0/12V 2.0A Artec is Ultima Electronics Corp. (Taiwan). No wonder I couldn't find them online!! I wrote to them about a replacement recorder. Better I should write to Mark Twain!

CVD? $? 360 days 1 of 10 Comments: I purchased my Artec 1 year ago. It has produced a myriad of "coasters" which are thankfully (but expensively) serviceable for topping my bird feeders. I might also say appropriately because this recorder overall is for the birds. It suddenly and inexplicably went into dvd arrest without so much as a warning or death rattle 3 days ago. No amount of button pushing has been able to bring it back to life or to make the play/edit function recognize that a disk is inserted. Artec also seems to be in the throes of death as their website brings no response. Go figure!! With all the complaints which they no doubt have read, they refuse to give any firmware update to their beta machine. We are their testing dupes. Perhaps they should have sold the unit as a disposable because that is what I got; a $100 disposable unit. I hope that in the future, we are alerted to any other brand name or company name they are marketing under as I would never buy another of their products knowingly. Is there anyone out there who has a suggestion as to how to resusitate my machine to recognize it has a disk in it?? I have opened and closed several time; turned the machine off and on several times; disconnected the cord for several hours and replugged it; reset the time; ... The only response I get is "Please insert disk first"...

The quality of the recordings are horrible they are dark and just like some of the others said here it doesnt record sometimes it says error!!! Also no support it took me 1 month to get a firmware update via e-mail!!!! I would say if your thinking of buying it DON'T if you have it buy something else and give that one to your enemy!!!

So if you have one, then it looks like its yours unless it is withen the sellers replacement period.

CVD? $125 270 days 8 of 10 Comments: i have used this machine for over 9 months,burned over 250 disks thats not including the coasters i got at first.yes it has some problems but its not complete junk like some have stated most peoples problems are due to the brand disks that their using.tried sony,verbitm,fuji and many other brands at first i had the same problems as everyone adding a title would messup the disk,finalizeing it as well also i got a huge fan noise during the entire recording! almost sent it back bought maxell brand what a difference! no coasters at all no fan noise you cant hardly tell thats its recording make sure you buy maxells that are made in japan, the taiwan ones are crappy and will messup.i can now finalize and add titles with no fear of messing up the disk.its avery good machine for the price cheap!!ordered at zipzoomfly its now at 89 dollars!

CVD? $? 180 days 1 of 10 Comments: I tried to ask this last night but got no verifacation email. Anyway, I had a power hit today and lost the video from my recorder, no video on any output. Hopfully it only need to be reset. Can sombody list the remote keystrokes to get to the reset to default, its in setup somwhere. The book doesnt show it. If it isnt that I need to send it back for repair or replacement. I have emialed tech support and the rma dept but got no responce. How have the rest of you been sending them back. Its been 6 months so I have to deal with Artec, and Im not impressed with their tech support.

CVD? $? 5 days No rating Comments: I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing this POS. Here are the issues I'm having... My unit will NOT play mp3 cd's or mp3 dvd's (will play regular audio cd's). When I try to play any song, I get the circle with a line through it, which I take as there is a disc error or unit error. Yet in other DVD players, my mp3 discs play just fine. There is an option to turn the screensaver off, but it won't work! you can't turn it off! it obscures the disc recording time remaining on the top right of the screen! Those are the only issues that haven't been mentioned yet. The other issues I'm having have been discussed... When converting VHS tapes to DVD, everytime the tracking on the VHS tape adjusts, the DVD stops recording. This is a major pain. When recording from TV, after a while there is a very significant audio sync issue. I've read the reviews and the solutions, but I'm still very disappointed in this product. I got this unit for 89 bucks at zipzoomfly.com, I'm sending it back.

I finally sent it back to the manufacter and the replacment didn't work. The manufacturer says it won't send out #4 w/o firt testing the unit. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Don't waste your money!

Out of 10 I give this unit 4: 3 for flawless playback of everything I've thrown at it and 1 for some records I managed to get occasionally. 3 points for playback but hey, I can get dvd-player with same play specs for $30. One of the positive experiences with this unit was interaction with zipzoomfly.com though. These guys replaced the unit without stupid questions and in a turn-around time of one week. (But I got to pay for shipping it there :( ) Finally, when I sent them unit back for a refund they refunded every last penny (No %15 restoking!) That was sweet, but hey, the recorder IS defective if it does not record, right? :) So, 4 points for good DVD-player and awful recorder. Lucky you guys, who managed to get the working ones, I envy you. To larry williard from United States - I don't want to dissapoint you beforehand, I also had a couple-week forking times on my units occasionally. Unfortunately, not forever :( Good Luck thou!

CVD? $125 14 days 1 of 10 Comments: I have tried many different DVD recorders..but this one has to be the absolute worst out of all of them. I tried 5 different media brands(Verbatim, Sony, Memorex, Teon, and Fuji) and all I got were coasters. Even when it looked like I had recorded a show off my TIVO successfully it failed when I tried to add a second one. This unit also has a major problem with freezing up..especially during the finalization stage I would like to try that new LG recorder thru Futureshop.ca..but it does not look like they deliver to the US The really sad thing about this whole experience is that when I add up the cost of the DVD's, the amount to ship this piece of crap back and the zipzoomfly 15% restocking fee I will probably break even with what I paid for it..which was $114.99

CVD? $? 3 days 10 of 10 DivX XviD Comments: I have the Artec and have been using it for a few months now and can say that with the firmware problems, disk compatibility issues and the this and the that I didn't think that it was the Best that it could be which brought me to this message...I decided that I needed to get looking and I found and bought a 10 yes I said a 10 here in Canada for $249.99 at Future Shop on sale reg. $299.99 the LG LRA 536 DUAL LAYER yes i said DUAL LAYER DVD recorder which plays and records on both DVD-+RW and DVD-+R talk about compatible. An awesome machine for the price But guess what that's not all not only does this Recorder produce an incredible image on the burns I mean AMAZING on everything I put in it and I haven't even used High quality Ridata yet but it plays DIVX / XVID and beleive this it plays QPEL.....now for $249.99 on sale at Future Shop and $299.99 regular bye bye Artec...now this is a big Yubba Dubba DOOOO! I'm sooo happy with this machine everyone got one in the house! Now the Artec well it is unplugged and ready for the Anchor rope! See yah and go Look it up check the specks I think you will have to agree this ones a beauty. Miss Delish says it's DELISH!

CVD? $125 210 days 10 of 10 DivX XviD Comments: I bought the Artec back in Dec. 2004 and was so impressed with the unit and its price that I encouraged my best friend to grab one ASAP. My original post is the 2nd one way back at the beginning of this thread. I don't have but do not take lightly the problems some of you may have had with this unit. Not being Tech Wizards, both my friend John and I have put the Artec to use the same as we would any old VHS machine. To this date we both continue to crank out copies of whatever comes on the Tube. I have a Dish Network PVR and John has good old Comcast Cable. I have yet to have a failure while burning and neither has John. We both use the machines often for the DivX movies I grab & burn from Usenet, John still has Dial-Up but I have DSL. As far as VCD capabilities, I use Dr.DivX to change over anything I get from the 'net anyway. The only problem I've had is the "Recording Prohibited" when trying to copy some of my old VHS tapes, I ran into the same problem when I tried to copy the tapes onto my Samsung Digital Camcorder and got a "Copyright Protected" message on that unit. I too had No Idea that my old tapes recorded from Cable had any Copyright protection, Damn! For what it's worth here are 2 Artec units that have been churning out DVDs without a Hiccup for 7 months now. That rates a Good Review from Us!

Every time I got it after a few seconds to munits. However all of a sudden it stopped and now it records perfectly. I have no Idea what I did different. Same DVD's, same cables, same receiver.

(thanks to the awful guide ) I can say that this player makes very nice looking copies. Avi play well also . It plays pretty much everything except Dvd-rw . And it records only on Dvd+ , + it looks hard finding a compatible disc brand that works in it (to record). I had luck with Verbatim+rw , but not the ones that came free with the unit (these work on my Pc burner though, and do play on the artec . But they dont work for Recording) . All the .vob files created can easilly be put on the computer for further editing . I must stress out once again the fact that the user guide (manual) is total garbage!! Do not take it too seriously . Come here instead and read comments from others , these will help you much more. A happy customer.

CVD? $125 120 days 7 of 10 Comments: We have had a few rough weeks with this Dvd recorder. The clock HAS a firmware issue. I hope Artec puts one out. The date and time freak out and we have lost some programs that we had set for record. I have had a lot of trouble recording on dvd+r disks and have not really tried again (lost about 10 dvd+r disk) Recordings on DVD+RW have been rocky at the beginning but since we removed the chapters, the DVD+RW recordings have been superb. We had originally set the recordings with a chapter every 4 minutes but we were having a lot of trouble viewing the programs (they would FREEZE). We have recorded several programs without the chapters and it works GREAT!!!! I plan to do the same with the DVD+R but haven't had time to fool around with it.

CVD? $? 30 days No rating Comments: Hey guys, me again :) I still defer my rating of the unit as I still don't quite get it. Ok, I've send back the first unit I bought from ZipZoomFly. Even though I was 1 day after 30 days trial they replaced it no problem. Now I got the second one and it does the same thing: "record prohibited" Just few minutes ago I recorded the whole movie off the cable with no problem. And again, the same STRANGEST thing - at SP quality it gets me 2:28 of recording time, at XP - 1:28, at ep - 3:28 and so on...ANd quality suffers... Has anyone encountered this problem? And even more important question: Has anyone tried to send the unit to Artec for repair? Can they really fix these problems (I'm pretty sure I have not only "record prohibited" and 2:28 instead of 2:00 but clock reset problem) or do they just send you another unit? Thanks!

Example: I want to record a show that is 2 hours so I program for a two hour recording. The Artec stops recording at around 1hr 20 minutes and unfortunately the recording is left incomplete. All feedback would be greatly appreciated Thanks.
