Well, my first experience with this player wasn't a pleasant one.
Firstly the DVD compartment is very cheap looking and made. Over time I can see the latch wearing down and the door not closing properly.
The picture quality is very poor, with the contrast and brightness levels very saturated.
In PAL mode, horizontal interference lines are evident.
Very noisy drive - sometimes takes a while for the laser to detect the DVD.
The left side of the LCD screen can get quite warm - overtime this can warp the DVD door when LCD is closed.
No resume funtion when the DVD is stopped. It will start playing the disc from the beginning.
Also when the DVD is stopped, it sometimes has trouble playing the disc again when I press play - you can hear the drive trying to search for the disc format again. The only way to resolve this is by opening the DVD door and closing it again.
When the DVD is paused, after 10mins the DVD switches off. This is ok when running on battery, but it does it also when connected to the powersupply.
It played all my Ritek DVD-R's ok but stuttered on some of my Princo DVD-R's.
It came out of the box region free - So far only tested on Region 1 & 4.
Oh well - can't expect much from a cheap player.

This portable looked great right out of the box. It is well-made and has enough buttons right on the unit that you really don't need the remote control. The picture quality was above average, although it seemed a little hazy even at the highest sharpness setting. Lots of adapters included. Power supply was compact enough and the battery was no more cumbersome than other models I've tried.
Unfortunately, this player wouldn't recognize most of the DVD-R's I tried in it, and the ones it did play skipped and froze right away. Similarly, I tried several different DVD-RW's, but each one skipped and froze as I neared the end of the movie.
I really like this particular player and you can hardly beat the price, so I'm going to exchange it for another in hopes that there is just something wrong with the unit I have. Others reviewers seem to like it so I'm willing to give it another chance. |

| Wide screen viewing angle is nice, several people can watch at one time. The max. volume setting seems a little low, both with and without headphones. Our biggest concern is the disc access door keeps coming open at inopportune times, like when opening or tilting the screen, forcing a restart & search to find where you were in the movie. The assortment of included cables is a nice touch, this unit works great cabled up to our home tv. |

| All I want is to play DVD's anywhere (I have a Sony GlassTron) so don't care about screen quality, but looked ok. Tried Apple DVD-r 2x and 4x and Fuji DVD-r 2x with bad results. DVD's did not work. All DVD's burned with Nero. Did get a DVD created with MyDVD from Sonic to work. Put same DVD's in home unit(s) (Sony, Toshiba)and all DVD's worked fine. Back to the store she goes. Did play MP3's and VCD no problem. |

| Progressive scan is mentioned in the docs, but is only for the LCD as there is no component video out. The dongles for S-Video and Coaxial digital output as well as a headphone splitter are a HUGE plus as it will function as a good in-home player as well. Sound is excellent for the size. Picture is okay but you cannot expect high resolution out of 7". It WILL play DVD-MP3 and DVD-JPEG on DVD-R or RW! Navigation is pretty good but JPEGs are pretty fuzzy. No random play. No random play? NO RANDOM PLAY?!?! 1100 songs on a disc and no random that I can find, oh well. That brings it down to a 9. Haven't tested the battery much but it seems to lose a full charge very quickly. |

| Sorry guys I rate this a ten for one reason I use vcd and svcd formats,it is flawless but one thing the external speakers are not that loud but I expexted that it was bought for the portable headphone use only. It plays store bought dvd's excellent for that is why it was made. As far as other formats I have no interest in them for now. My canopus software creates my vcd and svcd's. I use nero to burn. One laST THING CANOPUS IS A 700 BUCK ENCODER,IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIND IT ON NEWSGROUPS i SUGGEST YOU GRAB IT. |

Works great with DVD+R and DVD+RW media (tried Fujifilm 2.4x +R, Memorex 4x +R and Memorex 2.4x +RW which all worked with no problems) playing movies copied with DVDShrink and burned with Nero.
The screen is very nice for bright images. However darker images have a very noticeable ghosting/shadow effect. I wandered if this was just my player so I went back to the store and tried the shop model which did the same thing - so guess they all suffer from it. It's not so bad as to make me return the unit though.
Sound is tinny and not very load from the built in speakers. Sounds great through the headphones or plugged into an amp with external speakers (like a car stereo).
The unit is supposed to have progressive scan, but I think this just works for the LCD display. I don't think the video output supports it since there is no-where in the menu to enable or disable it. Also there is no mention of progressive scan on the unit, in the manual or on the box. The Circuit City web entry for it specifies it is supported, as does the Apex press release for the unit (http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/images/Movie_Machine.pdf).
In summary, a great budget player. |

| Used several different brands of media (both dvd-rs and cd-rs) without problems. As for the player itself, the screen is quite clear and bright, and the sound is good. It also includes several outputs (digital audio, svideo, composite video and sound), that can also be reversed. Player gets approximatly 3 hours on battery. As far as region free-ing, the people at nerd-out are working on one. There's a partial bypass, but not a full hack yet. |
