CVD? $70 over 1 year 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: I've had this DVD for over 3 years now. It has many great features that the expensive DVD player don't have. Although the pic quality looped thru VCR is just fair and will get lines & color changes if DVD is copyrighted. Other than that, I love this cheap player! Played everything I threw in it. Last year, I tried the hacking code and worked like a charm! But the remote control stopped working 1 month after that........any relation? I wouldn't now. Recently it's hooked up to a Lite-on LVW-5005 DVD recorder & a Sony Flat screen TV, pic quality is now excellent. Except for one thing, the home burned DVDs and on line bought DVDs sometimes won't play. Pic stutters & screen distorted. The new VCD set I bought on ebay wont play. But played flawlessly with Lite-on and in PC.

CVD? $125 over 1 year 7 of 10 Comments: Works well with most DVDs, but would not play some DVDs, all music videos, for some reason. These same DVDs played well on other DVD players. Buttons slow to respond; usually need to press for a few seconds. Player can be noisy at times. I will probably go with a different brand next time around.

Plays everything i've burned correctly(DVD-Rs,DVD+Rs,DVD+RWs,CD-Rs &RWs,)From SVCDs to DVD's of tv shows from VHS and DVDs bought from online stores. It's been great. But two days ago i bought an AD5131 from Walmart and it wouldn't play any of my homemade or bought online DVDs, I'm going to exchange it for another and try that one if it fails to work i'll have to give up on APEX.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: The player works very well except for pausing between chapter points on commercial and computer burned DVD's. It is also quite noisy at times. The strength of this player is its compatibility with different media formats. However, I could not however get the player to recognize Memorex brand DVD-RW discs.

CVD? $100 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: This is my 2nd Apex ( the 1st was a 600A ) This is the what most Apex 3201 users are goinna look for in a cheap DVD-Player #1 Plays VCDS #2 SVCDs #3 MP3s all on any cheap CD-R or CD-RW disk you can buy . Just burn using Nero or any other VCD , SVCD or MP3 burning program . #4 Plays DVD+R or DVD+RW ( if you are using DVDXCOPY . . make sure you use version 2.1 or LOWER ! and install the gear drivers . This can all be found at DVDXCOPY.com . Any Version higher than 2.1 I couldnt get to work . Over all this is a better than OK player . The main draw back I have is that the unit tends to get HOT fast and this results in the playback being "JERKY" at times . Make sure you keep the unit in a free air-flowing area . Like not ontop off a TV or any other Electronic that stay on all the time. Good Luck ! !

CVD? $80 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I burn my own vcd & svcd's. i havent had any problems with this player. in fact i liked it so much that i bought another one. I have tried other brands with the vcd & svcd's that i have burnt. on the other brands the people are talking and the sound comes out a few seconds later. with the apex AD-3201, no problem. I recomment this product to all those that burn your one vcd/svcd's!!!!!!! Oh yeah, it also plays regular dvd's well too

CVD? $50 N/A No rating Comments: This player is a cheap - play all - player. Yes, it does play almost everything but the quality of playback is not so good. You can see lags between picture and voice while playing PAL VCDs on a NTSC system. You also see the top and bottom chopped off while playing PAL. This is my second player, the first being a Sony DAV S300. Comparing the Sony to the Apex player is like comparing a Mercedes to a Ford. While the Sony system does not play CDRs and MP3s, the output quality is much more better. I use this system only when my Sony refuses to pick up, or when I get home videos on PAL CDRs from my friends and relatives for which I do not have the patience of copying to CD-RW. The quality difference is very obvious for both audio and video. You see more artifacts in the Apex player than in the Sony player. Audio also seems more loud and garish while using the Apex player.

CVD? $60 N/A 10 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: So far I've tested a large variety of my VCDs that were made on the cheapest quality CD-Rs (CMC Magnetics, Ritek) and they work just like the original discs. I even tried VCDs that were burned onto to the SKC, Infinity branded CD-Rs (90min, 99min respectively) and they ran without any problems. Recently I have compiled 6 hours of VCD onto a DVD-R to see if it would play back and it did without any flinching. Infact when converted to DVD format, the Fast Forwarding goes faster :P And with test subject 2, I put one VCD title and two SVCD titles mixed into a DVD-R. I played that back and it played back like any other DVD disc. I haven't tried integrating menus into my VCD/SVCD/DVDs so I can't comment on whether or not menus works. But the menus in commercial DVDs work :P The region hack works...I've heard rumors saying the Macrovision hack doesn't work but I can't be certain until I try it myself. But in the meantime, I'm very satiffied with this Apex DVD player.

CVD? $100 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Played few VCDs, plays great - I wasn't able to play thease VCDs on Toshiba 2800 or samsung without problem, but this unit played it great. DVD plays great too! Only problem I am having is this unit is slow to respond to remote control, sometimes, good 8-10 seconds gap delay :-( Also, I have noticed that video gows blank, it happend inly once but ff/rew fix that. I have not used any region hack or updated firmware.

CVD? $100 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: This is a great unit except that it doesn't support SVCD or CVD subtitles. I had no problems playing any SVCD's. The 1x zoom is an excellent feature not reported. I feel that the 1x zoom should be included on all DVD players. All other zooms are practically useless. Another great feature is that the onscreen display shows time played and time remaining. The lcd display is nice also. These are features I will be using to judge any other player I test. The only thing lacking to make this a 10 is the sub support.

Played VCD and SVCD that I've created with Ulead Movie Factory on the PC. Also played DVD and VCD made on a Mac with Toast. Store bought movies play okay too. Not bad for a cheap stand alone player.

CVD? $50 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I own both the AD-1500 and AD-3201. The AD-1500 is pretty much flawless except for a minor read out gitch with the tracks after you flash it with region free/macrovision free code. I bought the AD-3201 when CompUSA had it on sale for $49. I needed a player with optical audio out (AD-1500 only had coaxial). The AD-3201 also has component video outs. The AD-3201 takes some work to make it play right. You have to hope you get a drive from a supplier with the LT designation so you can update the drive's firmware to eliminate audio skipping/popping issues. Apex also has released a main board update for this unit that you can flash. The player has problems with VCD's if you view them in sucession. The video and audio skip and studder. To fix this I've found that pressing the equalizer button on the remote syncs everything back up perfectly.

N/A No rating Comments: good DVD player. i had troubol at first with the color but after a few minuets of fine tuneing it was fine i don't know if the VCD player works well ( i have no VCDs now, but will). all in all, good buy for not that much.

CVD? $80 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Upgrade your DVD firmware on it and it works beautiful. I don't have the link handy but you can find it in the www.nerd-out.com forums under the 3201. All the skipping and other problems stopped once I did that. I also upgrade the firmware on the player itself. Everything plays fine.

CVD? $100 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Bought this player at Kmart on 5/23/02 and returned following day. This unit is the same price as the AD-1500. DVD player would play commercial dvd's but not a recorded cd. The recorded cd was tested on another DVD player and tested fine. We downloaded and recorded 2 new cd's with Fireburner 2.17 in DVD (mpg)& SVCD format (bin & cue). The player recognizes the CD in SVCD and DVD format. Player attempts to play both formats, unsucessful in SVCD, and looks like the player is running in fast forward in DVD. Believe unit is was defective. We purchased a different make and model number.. I will post it. Dave

Works great with all MP3 and VCD/SVCD disks I've burned, even at high, non-standard bitrates. Navigates MP3 disk directories fine but no long filename support makes it more difficult than it should be. MP3 audio quality is excellent (I compared 5 brands when I bought this last year and this unit was head and shoulders above the rest for MP3 playback). No skipping problems on ANY DVD, but I do encounter the 2nd SVCD disk problem, even with latest firmware. I've had only one rental DVD that caused trouble - The Tailor of Panama locked up at the end of a chapter about 55 minutes into the film, had to restart the unit. Died every time it reached this point, but could step to next chapter OK after Power off/on and rest of disk played OK. Disk was dirty and scratched though, so may not have been players fault. Note that this unit uses a standard PC compatible drive, which may be why it handles so many different media types so well. It will probably also cause this unit to fail when playing the new "protected" audio CD's though, so be warned if you want to replace your audio CD player with this device. This player is flash upgradable, which makes fixes and new features a snap. Very desirable feature. I LOVE this unit for playing my VCD's and SVCD's!!! Just wish they would fix the 2nd SCVD stutter problem though. Martin Green
