CVD $90 N/A 4 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-MP3 MP3 ID3 TAG MPEGISO DVD-RAM Comments: I bought this model more than a year ago mainly because its karaoke feature, and to use it as a backup for my Sony NS425. For few months it worked great, it really impressed me, playing absolutely everything I throw at it including raw mpeg or badly encoded XVCD. For example when you try to play an XVCD encoded with wrong parameters, normally majority of the players would reject the disc - this one plays it, you can see pixels in the wrong places, half image encoded, but it doesn't reject anything... Well after few months, it start skipping disks and now it doesn't play anything but original DVD's - it would not play backup DVD's or XVCD... what's intriguing is that it doesn't play any of the DVD's that I played just fine (over and over) months before. If you want a good APEX, buy the 1500 model, it has all the qualities of this model, without it's flaws!

I bought it to play SVCD movies but now I am ripping DVD's with a Pioneer DVR-106D and the no region/no speed restriction firmware patch and I rip at max speed and burn at 2X, region free and this player eats it up! I have it hooked up to a HDTV so the optical sound out and the progressive scan was a must. Buy one!

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Bought this unit in February, worked great, the remote left a lot to be desired. Had a tendency to slip on the batteries and the controls were not exactly "ergonomic" for handling easily. Last month or so I haven't played many DVD's, went to play and got no video, checked all connections - video output is DEAD! Luckily I bought the warranty on the unit. Big surprise here... Sears no longer carries it! But I've had the Sony NS725P for less than 24 hours and I like it waaay more than I ever did the Apex.

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: Apex sucks, you be the judge: 9/6, Returned the defective unit to them. 9/18, was told Apex UPS system was down, asked me check back on 9/19; 9/19, their system was still down but should be repaired or replaced over the weekend. A brand new unit will be shipped by 9/22 and I should receive it by 9/24. The policy is to ship out a replacement (a brand new unit in this case, depends on the model). 9/25: the customer service wrote down the UPS tracking number and said he will let manager call me on 9/26. (of course it did not happen) 9/26: waited on the phone for 45 minutes and finally talked to another customer service rep., he said would talk to the manager and let me know. (you guessed it, it did not happen) 10/1: faxed to Apex to inquire the status. 10/1: Same customer survive rep. from 9/26 told me, it will take another 2 to 3 weeks. He also told me that what the other clerk told me to ship out within 1 to 2 weeks after they receive the unit is not true, because he's not working there any more! Stay tuned... Amazing!

Apex' customer support line is always busy, I have not successfully called them yet.

CVD? $60 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Bought this one from the Amazon.com. The first one came and could not open the tray, and returned and got a replacement. So far, it plays VCD fine. But when I hooked up with Y Pb Pr with my Panasonic HDTV and use the Progressive Scan on the DVD player, I got a very small letter box (big black bars on top and bottom) with very poor picture quality. Isn't progressive scan supposed to give me stunning beautiful picture quality? I will try JPG and others today and post.

N/A No rating DivX MPEGISO Comments: i give this players a 6. Fuck, this players is loud, it play dvd and svcd's, but no vcd's. I used the hack (region code) to enable vcd format, but it somehow affected the svcd playback. It works for bout 10 mins and then it freezes. wtf. Im returning it after 5 hrs.

BUT.....I can only play back wma files encoded with WMP version 8 or older. WMA files encoded with the new version don't work for me. Paid $60 from Amazon, a good value.

This on (AD2500) had problems reading my back up copies of my DVD (using DVD XCopy and XCopy express). Those of you that says it works... what I'm seeing is that it will go through maybe have of the movie and then the video will start stuttering and pausing and then it will just stop working. Or, it will work but if you skip to the next chapter, you will come across a chapter that it won't be able to read and just freeze up. Somewhat dissapointed. I've been happy with Apex because from what I've seen before, they read everything. I got a Sony instead.

Plays both my home burned video's and movies copied with DVDX using cheap Meritline DVD-R discs.

CVD? $90 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Someone wrote that they could not play back a replicated dvd movie. My 2500 works fine. I use DVDXCOPY, a generic dvd reader for copying, and a Sony DRU500AX for burning. It works like a charm. With the blank already loaded in the Sony, I can start the program and walk away. An hour later, the drawer is open and the copy is ready. The replicated disk also plays back on a Sony player.However, this thing is supposed to be able to read Kodak Picture cd's. Mine doesn't. It just hangs when loaded. The cd is about 20 years old. Maybe they changed the format.

N/A 1 of 10 MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: the player worked fine for a month ago. It played all the dvd's and dvd-r's I threw at it. Then the video signal just diappeared one day. There's still audio, but there's just no video signal anymore. I tried different cables and different tv's, it's definitely the player. Apex players are cheap for a reason.

The tray is a little loud as mentioned above but for < $100.00 that is acceptable to me. Nice remote features as well as Display. I would and have recomended this player to someone looking for a versatile and inexpensive player.

Sounds great with my DD/DTS decoder on a 5.1 system. Even plays my hackjob SVCD+AC3 files. Go buy it!

CVD? $100 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: It seemed like a good player (all the usual Apex stuff), but I will be returning it. It WILL NOT play replicated DVDs. Details - I use DVDxCopy and a Pioneer A05 to copy my DVD's. (This is not VCD or anything like that, but a DVD to DVD copy). I know the DVD replicas are good, because they play fine on my Toshiba and Sony DVD players. It's a shame because I like this player, and the price was great. If it weren't for the inability to play the replica DVD's, it would be a keeper.

N/A No rating Comments: Unfortunately, my 2500 played one dvd then died. 'No disc' for everything. I returned it, but they were out of 2500's, so it was replaced with a 2100, which is working fine. The 2500 seemed to have a tray flaw, I couldn't get a disc to sit flat in the tray, my 2100 has no such problem, a nice big wide tray, most likely a QC issue I guess with the other unit. Too bad, I guess I can upgrade some day, when I get an HDTV. Also: the 2500 has no PBC Off button on the remote, the 2100 has it (it's replaced on the 2500 with IP/?? can't remember, some other feature which I don't need).

So far I have tried the Maxell DVD-R & DVD-RW they worked great. Have tried a no-name CD-R 4X speed ( it was a VCD). Tried a Yamaha 8X CD-R (VCD also) TDK CD-R (SVCD), GAT 12x CD-R ( photo CD), PNY 16X CD-R (MP3), Hypermedia CD-R (MP3). So Far every type I have tried the Apex AD-2500 has played with no problems. When playing the Photo CD you can choose 11 different transitions or you can choose Random Transitions all can be done through the remote control. I have used Nero, CD Mate and Sonic MyDVD software to burn to the Cd's. Great player for the price.
