| I have owned this for 11 months. Has played pretty much whatever I have thrown at it except CDRW and DVD+R (GQ media). But yesterday, it just stopped working. It keeps reporting "No Disc". So, its a good purchase if you consider the price, but keep in mind that it will blow up sooner or later. I havent contacted the customer support yet, but I dont think it would really matter. |

| Great little player. I rated it an 8 though because both mine and my brother's quit working. I am an electronic tech and replaced a couple capacitors in both units and broght them back to working status. The real reason I am posting here is in case any of you had the same problems I could email my pics on how to spot and replace the caps. |

| I have three test disks: Maxell DVD-R/W, TDK DVD-R, Imation DVD+R and this player reads them all. The amazing thing is how well the firmware works. I have (on the test disks) raw mpeg files, mp3 files with five subfolders (deep), long file names, and jpeg files. I have tried the test disks in every player in BestBuy, UltimateElectronics, WallMart, CircuitCity, Radio Shack, and many others. This is the ONLY player I have found that will play all the test disks! And for only $30!!! The only reason it only gets a 9 is because it does not have component video or progressive scan output. |

I learned the hard way that many of these user reports are incorrect.
Despite the reports here, this player does not read ID3 tags. It only shows the first 14 characters of filenames. It does random play of MP3s only within the current directory. It wouldn't play any of the DVD+RW media that I tried, but I only tried a couple of kinds.
It does play MPEG-2 program streams as files on a CD-ROM. |

Very pleased with this drive. Plays my 24x Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-RW's perfectly.
One word of warning, if you download a lot of PAL VCD's or SVCD's (for example a lot of european TV programs) they will roll and be unwatchable, because this player seems not to support PAL discs.
I would imagine this is easily cured by recoding the movies using tmpgenc, although I haven't tried this because my other 2 DVD players will play the PAL discs fine so I just use them to watch those ones. |

I bought this player from Walmart the day after Thanksgiving on sale for $30. I was supposed to buy 3, 2 for other people, but could only find the one after searching several Walmarts. I kept it as an extra dvd player for my bedroom and am shocked that it didn't turn out to be the piece of crap many people had said it was. I've been using it for 2 days straight now and it hasn't self destructed - yet. The picture's nice and crisp and it sounds great. I did have a problem with no audio on a SVCD of "The League of Gentlemen". But, after a little tinkering with the remote's audio button, I found that I could change the audio channel settings and it played just fine. It even outperformed my beloved Cyberhome 300 when playing some VCD's i'd made from vcr captures. I used an ATI TV Wonder VE card to capture some britcom episodes from videotape and the results weren't that great when viewed them with my Cyberhome. The capture card picked up video noise from the vcr, so there were lines running through the picture. Also, the card didn't record stereo sound. So, the sound was not that great. A bit tiny. The VCD's played okay on the Cyberhome. But they appeared to be somewhat degraded. On the Apex, the picture and sound were much better. I was really impressed when I realized that the VCD's I was watching were my own captures and not some I owned, done by others. The only real problem I have is this clicking sound the Apex makes when it's in play. Also, although it's heavier than my Cyberhome player, it has a kinda "cheap?" feel to it. I can probably live with it, though.
I have a raincheck for 2 more Apex players (1225 model I believe)from Sears for $29.99. I'll play with this one for a week or so before I decide whether or not to get them. |

all i can say is, for the 180.00 i spent on my pioneer a year ago, this 30.00 piece of apex plays 80% more media than the more expensive pioneer. SAD VERY SAD. it has played every dvd rip "i own" iso, ifo, vob, avi, mini cd but only jpeg media. was told it would only last about
6 - 8 weeks, but for 30 dollars it would almost be worth buying a new one every 2 months, maybe not.i give it an 8 only because i havent tried all formats yet. |

| I bought two of these players at the Wal-Mart day after Thanksgiving sale for $30 ea. One may actually make it under the tree. I'm thinking I may need to keep one for myself. There was no disc I put in it that didn't play flawlessly! Even my (S)VCD's with menus worked great. This is a great player at a great price! |

This player plays just about any thing. I also bought one from Wal-Mart for $30 to use as a gift for someone. They're not getting it:)
It plays almost every thing I throw at it. When putting in an avi(windows format) or avi(divx/mpeg4) it shows the files but doesn't allow you to play them.
DVD-MP3 was burned as a reg iso dvd and it plays the 740 songs that I have on the dvd.
The graphics on this player in mp3 play mode look pretty cool. They tray seems thicker and a lot sturdier than other apex dvd players I have had in the past.
Overall a sweet deal. Pick one up if you can

| First, let me get the price correct. I paid only $30 for this machine at Wal-Mart, the day after Thanksgiving. Dvdrhelp.com's form would not allow me to enter a value below %50. Bought it for my part of my brother's Christmas present and wanted to make sure it would play SVCD's before I wrapped it up. Two words: WONDERFUL player. We already have two of the ad1200's and now I'm envious of what my brother's getting from me. Mechanically, it seems superior. Door action is much better than that of the 1200. Graphics for mp3 is much sweeter too. Plug in a svcd, and it actually tells you that it's an svcd. Looking to purchase a DVD burner real soon, so when I get one, I'll let you know how it does with homemade DVDs. But have read some reviews on another site, and two different guys said that it played EVERYTHING they through at it - including AVI files! As usual, Apex provides a player that plays EVERYTHING for just a fraction of what lesser players cost. |
