CVD? $? 1 days 2 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO Comments: I got this today, and contrary to what others have said--it totally WILL NOT play ANY DVD+R media whatsoever. It hangs and hangs and goes nowhere with it. I also tried a DVD+R with MPEG2 files on it and it wouldn't even show what files were on the disc. It did play "commercial" DVDs fine, that's about it. It handles CD-burned material--JPEGs and MP3s--just fine, even managing to show more of the filenames without making them like dsc~1.jpg or whatever. But it totally 100% rejects any such DVD-burned material I try to feed it. C'mon, you're a DVD player, play DVDs! Disclaimer: I did buy it second-hand. Even so, I purchased two Cyberhome 300 models (one a 320) second-hand as well and both played all DVD+R media fine. I don't know how this unit does if purchased new, but if purchasing second-hand from eBay or craiglist et al--beware. It probably has issues if my experience is a reliable gauge.

CVD $30 over 1 year 3 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO DVD-MPEGISO DVD-RAM Comments: this ad1110 got me through the days when i needed a dvd player and i did'nt want to pay alot of cash,though i have bought a more expensive apex with S>sound i thought it was funny that within a year the cheap apex ad1110 outlasted the expensive one,as the thing just fell apart,my apex ad1110 is over a yearold now and still going,if your going to rent dvd's or youwa nt something to line into a stereo as a cd player and a mp3 player,this is a good dvd player for you for the 30-40 dollar price range,and if your going to buy apex do yourself a favor buy cheap,as this is not gona last ya,if it dose you;ve got luck on your side,save your money for this dvd player with product support and DVD+r compat. as that is as good as you can get unless you can hack,lol One other thing,its not so hard to load a dvd+r firmware on a product like this~yet apex dose'nt do it for cheap wonder why that is ? duh!

CVD? $? 120 days 8 of 10 Comments: Nice little DVD player for the price. I have had no problem playing factory DVD's and I have played DVD +/_R's as long as the compression is not to high. I have copied movies using DVD Shrink and If the compression is to high it will start having problems and eventually stop playing. I also have an APEX AD-5131 and it would play the same DVD with no problem. It will play VCD but will absolutly not play SVCD.

CVD? $30 over 1 year 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: I am confused as to why some people have apex's that play DVD-R's and both of mine along with 5 family and friends units won't? I called Apex and was told that none of them play DVD-r or DVD-rw only DVD+r/rw 's. Ofcourse, they also say that they won't play vcd's which all of them I've tried do and they were not purchased at the same time(in some cases 1 year apart over the last 3 years). Although, I know they removed that feature for a while and then secretly replaced it again due to copyrights that they didn't pay. Until now these little units have played everything my family and I have thrown at it. A great inexpensive player. I just wish it would play the only discs my home dvd recorder will record on.

CVD? $40 180 days 5 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Decent player for the price, but not without its problems. Still, much better than the similarly priced Cyberhome CH-300 it replaced. Has played every burned DVD I have thrown at it. Audio clicks when playing mp3s through the digital output. haven't tried the analog output. Video is usualy decent, but banding (if that's what it is called) can be very noticeable in areas with very fine gradation. After a few months started often closing the drawer as soon as it opens. I often have to open it 3 or 4 times before it stays open long enough to put a disc in. Cheap option for a lot of versatility at a low price, but doubt its durability. Malata 580 is a much better option for a little under double the price.

It plays most of what I need it for, but it doesn't play VCD's/SVCD's. It does play WMA and MP3's very well. I've played a number of DVD + R's in different formats and they have played fine. I've used many disks with the burn speed from 1-8x. I've used been Sony, Fuji, and Memorex with no problems reading any of them. I use DVD Shrink and Nero 6x for the burning. I recommend this DVD player for those who want a decent player without the big price. I wish it would play SVCD but that format has gone by the wayside anyhow.

CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: This is the second Apex. Don't remember the model of the first. Both have displayed the same problem after about a year. All of a sudden vcd, svcd, dvd's of =/- and rentals stopped functioning. Both cases I opened the unit and found the disks were not spinning up and after a long period on the screen stating 'loading' it would return a 'no disk' msg. Tried replacing the drive unit with no success. Apparently the problem is in the electronics for spin up not the hardware drive.

CVD? $40 30 days 9 of 10 Comments: For $39.00 it's pretty hard to find anything wrong with this nifty little player. We bought specifically to play xcopy back-ups of retail dvd's. It has performed superbly. Plays dvd-r's (we used sony and tdk 2x, and maxell 2x) Plays dvd+r (tdk, imation, teon, maxell, sony.) -r's were burned on a sony gdr7x recorder. +r's burned on PC using nerovision express.

CVD? $40 2 days 5 of 10 MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Bought the AD-1110 at Walmart for $38 last night. Poor DVD-R player. Won't play at all or locks up on more than half my backups (both DVD Xcopy and DVDShrink w/Nero 6). All CompUsa 2x DVD-R media, which my PS2 played flawlessly - very picky player. Plays original DVDs fine and mp3 cdrs. This is going back for a better backup player, only recommed this to someone who only has store bought DVDs.

CVD? $? 3 days 5 of 10 Comments: I bought this player for ONE single reason: to play SVCDs in my living room. Let me state definitively, this APEX 1110 will NOT play SVCDs! I tried two different brands (Verbatim & Memorex) and burnt them at various speeds (2X, 4X, & 8X) in case that was the problem. This unit will absolutely NOT PLAY SVCDs. Buyer beware if this is what you plan to use it for.

CVD? $? over 1 year 9 of 10 Comments: There are several models that fall under this player : the AD-1110, AD-1110W, and AD-1110WM - As far as the DVD+R question go, I've noticed the older players have not been able to play it - I have had 2 AD-1110W's and one played it while the other didn't - I just bought a 1110 brand new from Walmart (at $38.46) and it played everything I threw at it including Memorex 4x DVD+R. So basically if you get a unit that isnt playing the DVD+R format, bring it back and get another one off the shelf, as I said it seems to be pot luck as to which will work. -Trancer

CVD? $40 2 days 3 of 10 Comments: Tried playing movies backed up on TDK DVD+R 4x, Memorex DVD+R 4x, Imation DVD-R 4x, Princo DVD-r 4x, Fuji DVD+R 4x, Maxell DVD-R 4x and not one of them plays! I wish I would've bought three of the 500w's when I had the chance; those play anything I throw at it while this one just whirs. Bad part about it is that I can't take it back.

N/A No rating Comments: i got the 1110WM at walmart. it doesn't play SVCD. plays VCD and DVD just fine. hooked it thru a vcr with no problems.try to play a SVCD and it says incorrect disc. there is nothing on the Apex website about this player. my dad has a brand new 1110W so i'm trading him(so i can watch SVCD) the 1110WM also doesn't play raw mpeg files.

I had an Apex AD-1600 AD wish I still had it. It never gave me a problem playing anything I threw at it. DON'T BUY THIS JUNK PLAYER.

My PS2 sees it but when I put it on the apex player it says no disc the movie is complete copy of a actual DVD movie with menus and everything. CVD $50 N/A 3 of 10 Comments: Cheap and loaded everything I tried - but NO selectable SVCD subtitles worked. PAL SVCD and VCD ran just fine on my NTSC TV, without the noticable distortion that many players have. Image quality is far below average. After testing on this player I understand why I've seen so many people say that SVCD doesn't look any better than VCD or that their VCDs look as good as DVDs. If they have a player that's as bad as this one then everything looks like a VCD. SVCDs that were crystal-clear on my cheap GE are grainy and noisy. Motion on retail DVDs is not smooth. If I'd had a player this bad the first time I watched a DVD I'd have saved my money and stayed with VHS. Build quality is as flimsy as you'd expect from Apex. The remote is clunky and almost unusable. This particular player created colored splotches on my TV, just like you'd get if you put a magnet up to the screen. Turn the player off and they slowly fade away, turn it back on and they show up again in seconds. This player may cost only $45, but it's no bargain. This is a VCD player, nothing more. If you want to watch SVCD or DVD get something else. This piece of junk is going back to the store.

DVD XCopy to burn movies. Loaded over 1G of .mp3's onto a DVD+RW and it loaded it up and gave me the menu!! Burned with Nero 6. Works great. Plays .mpg's on a CD-RW and displays any .jpg photo (so far the max I've had on a CD has been nearly 1000 - with plenty of room left on the CD) Hasn't been any burned cd/dvd that it wouldn't play so far (about 6 months)

N/A No rating Comments: I could not get a dvd+r to work. Went to Walmart tonight and noticed that the media card underneath the display states that Dvd-r is the only one it will play. Plays them great. Still a great player for the money. I wish I had read that compatability card before I bought the 100 pack of Dvd+r's :)

N/A 5 of 10 MPEGISO Comments: I have had this drive for about 1 year. It has played everything I have thrown at it, until... Last week I tried to play an MP3 CD and started getting the "NO DISC" error often reported for the Apex 1100W unit. The unit now plays commercial DVDs perfectly, but will play nothing recorded in CD format (VCD, SVCD, MP3, JPG etc.). Used to work fine. Tried many of the fixes listed for the 1100W unit to no avail. After a lot of tinkering, I think I know the problem. This model corrects many of the flaws with the 1100W including the "black thingy" that held down the ribbon cable. Now it appears that the primary drive motor is worn out. It does not seem to have enough power to properly spin a CD format media at low speed. The higher-speed DVD media spin just fine. I play maybe 1 DVD / SVCD per week. This motor should not be worn out so quickly. I loved this drive while it was working! I'm disapointed it did not last more than a year.

CVD? $50 N/A 8 of 10 MPEGISO Comments: Yes the 1110W went on sale locally for me (Arkansas) at Wal-Mart and Radio Shack, and of course both were sold out in minutes. Settled for a used one at pawn shop for $30 (sale price was 29.95).. So far it works great. I'm now trying to get educated on how to convert my avi's to mpeg1/mpeg2 or vcd so they'll work in the player. Excellent buy for the price, even if used.
