CVD? $50 over 1 year 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I've had this player for at least 2 years now. It has been great, plays everything I throw at it usually.... including MPGs on a CD (not a DVD). I just burned a RiDATA DVD-DL and it worked in the AD-1100w, although it made a funny click before it played it. Only issue I'm having with it now is the tray, it seems to close when I don't want it to, but it didn't used to so I'm just attributing it to age. It's not worth buying anymore at this point with all the new players available but I guess if you see one at a garage sale for $5 get it, it's worth it.

CVD? $? over 1 year 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG MPEGISO Comments: With the exception of 2 DVDs (both of which were no surprise to me), this player has played everything I've put into it. And, it's one of the few electronic products I've ever bought that had batteries included for the remote at time of purchase. Assuming Apex is still in business when I finally run the wheels off this machine, my next machine will also be an Apex. Only one tiny negative note that didn't affect me personally. In WalMart, I saw two Apex models ... both designated AD-1100w ... where one would play VCDs and another would not. That's right ... same model number, different features. But, since it's not sold anymore, it's a moot point. Still, should anyone buy a "used" model from somewhere and want to play VCDs, be sure it has the VCD/CD idiot-light on the right side of the machine's faceplate.

I have had no problems, and only wish I could still purchase this model.

The problem with SVCD is that I cannot fast forward them or reverse. The only option to move forward is to use the GOTO function and enter a minute to skip to. DVD+R and DVD+RW will not play in this model. It displays the chapter menues, but when I try to play any video it freezes. Something nice about this model it that since it can browse the file structure, I have been able to play not very standard VCD by going to the directory where the actual MP2 movie is stored and play it directly.

I thought my big CRT projector was bad, so I setup with a TV and nada. My other Apex was fine. So I have to say longevity is lacking in this player. I stand firm on this because the same thing happened to a co-worker and I thought it was just him. Nope...Apex. When it worked it was great! I guess it will be my MP3/CD player at the cabin.

CVD? $70 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: The Apex AD-1100W has been a workhorse and was a real bargain to boot. It has always played flawlessly, an attribute to the technology. It plays Kodak Picture CDs, MP3 CDs and of course, DVDs. As with most electronic gadgets, the quality goes up and the price comes down over time. I would recommend it for the bedroom DVD player but not as the family DVD player. The one drawback to this unit is the fact that some functions are only accessed while in "shift" mode. That is with a little yellow box with the word "SHIFT" visible on-screen while you access other functions such as scene skip and other features like it. Also, it lacks in styling and looks cheap. Bottom line...it works well for the price, a very good purchase but don't expect it to be pretty.

I had the 1meg or the 512k and I ended up with a "new" 512k and i did the firmware up grade on it then took a small video that I had and made a VCD with Nero and poped it in and it worked the first time. And it was made with cd-r. I also have other dvd players and i am more happy with this one then my others. And I only paid a 1/4 of what I paid for the others. Now I have reason to go and buy a DVD burner.

CVD? $40 N/A 1 of 10 Comments: Piece of crap. I bought it at walmart and, at first it looks cheap, which it is. Then the drive was jammed and it wouldnt eject, the remote also looks way cheap. Do yourself a favor and spend 15 bucks more and get a magnavox MDV455/17 which is way better than this and it has Progressive scan.

It read the disk but it flickers like u are blinking alot non-stop and when i hit play it froze after a few seconds.

CVD? $60 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: The only problem that I've had with this player is that when it plays SVCDs at 2200 kbits+ its a little blocky and stuff and is slower than usual, other than that which that isn't really a problem...I just encode my DVDs to 2100 kbits and they play perfect without any problems at all...this is a great player and its recommended by me by its cheap price and great qualities...the only bad thing is it has no lcd screen and its only a 1 disk changer...but for $65 at wal-mart it was worth it

DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD+R(comp usa Brand) seem to work fine(that is if you get them to burn without errors).Also have tried fujifilm DVD-R that work great as well (never had a bad burn with fujifilm). I have used DVD shrink and Image burn and TMPEG DVD authoring as well a Nero and NTI. I use the OptoRite DD0401 DVD burner. I have used nemerous brands of CDR's and they all work for VCD, SVCD and MP3's. I have also just thrown together MPEG 1 and 2 and JPEG files on a CD and they play fine. For VCD and SVCD video I have used many programs and they all seem to work. TMPEG, DVDto SVCD Ulead movie factory and others all work. I would recommend getting a apex 1100W since it will play about just about everything you need.

MP3 VBR WMA CVD? $70 N/A 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I love this machine because it plays just about everything I make;except those vcds that are not properly burned. It has allowed me to safe gaurd countless home movies that were on the brink of ruin. Reading other comments has made me rather aware of how lucky I was to get one of the last machines at Walmart that could still play vcds. I think it is only a matter of time before apex brings back the vcd option since it is gaining in popularity. I have to get a backup since there is a toddler that has learned to get into everything and it's only a matter of time before he breaks it. The best part, it was so cheap that it won't really feel like a monetary loss if he breaks it.

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I have this Apex, I love it. It plays just about EVERYTHING I throw it's way. First one I bought was the 512 version. I took it back and got the 1mb version. Region free and Macrovision free, plus custom backgrounds. No more of the....... I forgot what the factory background was. Only bad thing about this player, the SHIFT thing on the remote. Oh yeah, it's silver and I would have prefered it in black. I've had it for over a year now and have NOT experienced any of the problems reported here.

The APEX reads the DVD-R and starts the picture but just sits there as if it is in pause mode; won't continue to play. Recorded with a Panasonic DMR-E50.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Oh my God ! I was pulling my hairs out. I was trying to burn a VCD to play in the APEX 1100W. I tried Nero, Easy CD Creator, CLONECD, VCDEASY, you name it. Tried to convert to avi, then burn, tried to go with a slower speed, 1000000 dollar CD-R etc. What was the problem? Well, I read the forums and people were telling to open my DVD and pull back the track for the discs. I thought this can't be.... I tried and guess what?: This solved every problem. Put in the disk, pull back the track (with the DVD open, of course) and hit the play button !!!!!!!!! Every VCD, MP3 works now. Thanks guyz !!!!!!!

My ulead dvd disc would only play at fast speed on it.?
