CVD? $30 over 1 year 9 of 10 DivX MPEGISO Comments: I’ve only had a problem once and I think it was because bitrate on the svcd was to high. Other than that, it has played everything I have tried. It was so cheap I even purchased on for my best friend and her family so that I could share my movies with her kids. It was on sale at circuit city last summer or the summer before. I like how small it is.

CVD? $30 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG MPEGISO Comments: There are 4 common players I found that will play a true DVD format recorded on CD-R. This one is by far the best value and plays the best. However it has about a 50 percent intial failure rate (doesn't work or broke out of the box or shortly thereafter). Also the S99 model is pretty good with less intial failure rate of the unit, but over all feel is cheaper for the same price. I have bought 3 V101's and 5 S99's with only one intial failure of the S99 that was easily traded for a working unit. Circuit city sells these two players.

Plays badly scratched Vcd and DVD like no scratch Vcd Manual work. 32x fast forward Price $35 First one broke, exchanged, second work perfect. Those DVDs won't play on regular DVD player, are pirated Hong Kong moves bought from China, So region code could be Hong Kong (3) Price: $35 First one DOA, most DVD,VCD won't play, even if plays, skip and pause every few second. Exchange and got a working one

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: Worked fine first day, second day burned DVD-R's and DVD-RW's skipped, etc. Also store bought DVD's skipped. Returned unit, new unit did the exact same thing on the second day also. Returned and got a different player. Very similar to the Apex in the way that the unit fails. I would not recommend but for 34.99 you get what you pay for.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: 9 for being able to throw any type of CD at it and the DVD player being able to read and playback properly...NO display screen is the reason it had a lower rating and minimum a/v inputs/outputs. (x)VCDs, (x)SVCDs, (x)CVDs, all PLAY FINE! Great DVD player for a REAL CHEAP PRICE bought it new for 34.99 plus tax.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Playback of DVD+RW discs I've recorded on a Phillips DVDR985 are very clean and free of problems I've occasionally seen with other, more expensive players (sound track out of sync; picture freeze; system lock-ups).

Great little dvd player for the price. $39.99 at Circuit City.

I got it mainly because it plays all VCD's and SVCD's I burned with Nero, VCDEasy, etc. The new Apex and other DVD players don't necessarily play all VCD and SVCD discs, but this player does. And at Circuit City at $39 (free shipping if ordering online) you can't beat it. And it has a 12 month parts and labor warranty, and you can return it to Circuit City within 30 days. But this is a keeper for me because it plays so much and the picture CD feature is great. I'm going to get a couple more of these because this player is a lot for the price. This DVD player is a lot more player than the Apex 1200 and 1100W and it's built better than the Apex machines I have. Will be testing more CD's and DVD's but so far it's played everything I've thrown at it, and flawlessly.

I researched and found it has a longer waranty than the Apex. Cirucit City has a 30 day money back plan and I figure what's the heck?. I was very surpised at this dvd player. Played everything I had and the picture was very good.

CVD? $50 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: Basically a clone of the Daewoo S150 it seems with some different firmware. Plays the reported stuff I threw at it GREAT. I say "yes" to MP3 long filenames/folders because it DOES display Joliet names, however it limits the length of what it shows on screen. Nonthless, understanding Joliet/Folders is enough of an accomplishment that I think it gets a "yes" vote. Cons: Remote sucks and is pretty generic. MP3's dont play gapless. Unit wont recognize mp3s with coma in filename (beats me!) Player takes a while to respond after no-disc inserted because it's so hellbent on finding a disc that isn't there. Watched a PAL SVCD with no issues. Burned ISO MPEG's played great. Excellent JPG slideshow features with multiple transitions. The backdoor region code for the Daewoo S150 did NOT work right on the Amphion ABT-V101 I tried this one: Power on. Open disc tray. Push "Set up" button. Enter 13698888. A new menu named "Version" will be added towards to the bottom of the main setup menu. Enter this "Version" menu. Inside the Version menu, you will find an option as "Region" or "Region Code". Change the setting as needed, using the up/down arrow keys on the remote control. (00 should be the proper setting for region-free operation.) On the fourth "8" it brought up a serial # or firmware version or somesuch at the bottom of my screen. (P######/347108.(scrambled)) Each 3 additional presses of 8 after that (888) makes the text at the end of the string (which is corrupted and pretty unreadable) change. It's almost like I MAY be toggling through Region's. The text is corrupted but I could swore I could make out the phrases "Japan" "Brazil" "USA". I sat there pressing 8 over and over hoping it would be readable but it wasn't. Eventually I just stopped - and either I randomly landed on Region 0 or Region 1 because my DVD's still work - or this hack just doesn't work.
