N/A No rating MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Great player, found it plays both vcd and svcd, even tho in the manual there are no mention of svcds, if u look at its display above the dvd in a circle there is a display that says svcd, it plays most dvds, even ones that are to badly scratced to play on my other dvd player. I burn vcds all the time and it wrks great. the only problem i have noticed is with the pal version of "a knights tale" which it will open the menu of but not play the film

N/A 8 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: Bought this unit cheap last year at argos (£105). More than happy with it. Handles all VCDs, XVCDs,SVCDs, XSVCD, DVDs, I throw at it. Works well with my MAC tools and toast and any dvd-r, cd-r, cd-rw media. Best bit is its XSVCD capabilities. Tested it with various bit rates works great up until approximately 6 to 6.2Mb/s. Just take any type MPEG2, any size, PAL or NTSC, created by any encoder, pop it directly in a SVCD format and this unit will play it. I usually use a bitrate around 5M MPEG2 from quicktime (CBR) or bitvice (VBR) at 720X576 pixels and usually PAL. No issues at all. Best little talked about feature is the disc/track digest feature. Great idea for reviewing your VCDs.

N/A No rating Comments: i have been using this player to play vcd's burnt from home made dv film converted to white book and burnt by a hp drive using easy creator 5 for some time. just bought a new pc with pioneer 104 dvd writer and u lead video studio dvd and movie maker... the files are converted to the correct mpg2 std and the discs burn fine. they play ok on the pc but this player won't touch them.. just says no disc!... a bit dissapointing as others are saying it works....

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: A great player that will play almost any type of brand of CD-R. Had a few probs getting NTSC-film encodes to work though (23.976fps) Was using TMPGEnc with standard NTSC-film template to covert. Disk would play but video kept skipping/jumping causing de-sync of the audio. Have found solution to this though - The bitrate. The standard templates set bitrate to a constant of 1150 supposedly the norm for VCD. My Alba 103 appears to dislike these encodes for some strange reason though. I use the Automatic VBR (CQ VBR) setting now when encoding and every 23.976fps movie that I do plays fine now. The only downside is that the encode can vary in size depending on the type of file.

Equipment Used Shrek & Grinch DVD Rips, Encoded and burnt onto an Infiniti DVD-R using Ulead Movie Factory & Pioneer A103/A03 all works great

CVD? $200 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Thought this was a bargain at UK129. Worked great for about 2 hours and played all VCDs and MP3 cds I had. Then it decided to detect every CD from then onwards as a VCD 1.1 and kept restarting etc... Took it back and bought a Wharfdale M5 which works great and for the extra 50 quid has a better looking menu, better looking facia and decoder built in.

CVD? $200 N/A 1 of 10 Comments: dont touch it had of them great when they work but that aint often 1st one DOA 2nd tray would open and close whenever it felt like it. 3rd worked great for a week then swollowed a new dvd and now the try will not open. 4th you must be jokeing, Im getting a refund this time.

Have made lots of single disk VCD movies up to 200 mins in length using Mpeg at various bitrates (around 750k Video and 32k audio, depending on movie length), also plays Variable Bitrate (VBR) VCD. I use TMPGenc and choose non standard VCD then burn with Nero. Nice to be able to get long movies on one CDR.

N/A No rating Comments: Bought a Samsung 511 and it was so naff, I took it back to the store and demanded an exchange, I took the Alba 103 and received £20 refund. This is a fab little player, that plays on any Cdr Media. I inserted an MP3 Cdr with 128 tracks at 128k, it loaded in about 5 seconds and plays perfectly, no skipping on any media. A Cheap little player that blew away the more expensive Samsung.

N/A No rating Comments: For A cheap DVD player this one does a lot, multi region, and yes I have tried that, mp3, cd-rw trakdata and verbatin, both of these have played with no problem, picture is not the best but good enough for me sound ok, multi angle, all in all for the price top marks to alba
