CVD? $300 7 days 7 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: Pro: I was very happy with the clear copy and playback. Very easy to install & manual to understand. I copy all kind of vhs, no problem. Con: I've returned it. My decision to order it was based on that it was advertise as region free but the dvd recorded with this machine would not play in my other two region 1 dvd players. The only solution was to record on the Akai and then transfer the disk as region 1 on my pc to a second dvd - or +. In regard of DVD+RW. Will not play or transfer at all in/to other players or PC.

CVD? $200 90 days 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: DVD recording is very easy using the "Easy Guider". Timed recording is OK but the "one-touch" record of my VCR is something I miss. I have recorded some 16 plus hours of Home video transferred from my Hi-8 camcorder, a Stereo VCR playing VHS tapes of all sorts, and off air video. It hasn't failed me yet. The tuner isn't stereo which is disappointing and some intereference seems to be present in the off-air video. It can't seem to select chapters of a VCD. Not a serious problem now that I can record DVD anyway. VCD looks really bad compared to the recorded video on this machine. Editing could be improved. You can't do anything with chapters except erase them and start over. I have a noisy fan on this machine. I will have to exchange it.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: $189(Amazon)Best Bang For Your Bucks. Hangs up once in awhile but all in all a very good machine. I use TDK+R media. My only complaint is that it does not record the date from my digicam (Canon E70) via Firewire. Does anyone know why?

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Just got my second player from TigerDirect.com (first one made noise while the disc spun). This second one is perfect!!! Burned a tv show and a 2 hour movie with no problems and no overheated unit!! It's great!! It does have a hack for it to disable macrovision and region coding. Picture quality was great!! Best 224.00 I've ever spent! Gotta go now and find some old not on DVD yet videos!!! Used a memorex dvd+rw and Arita 2.4x DVD+R. Discs were not even warm after a 2 hour burn!
