CVD? $1050 N/A 8 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: I tried both TDK CD-R and HP CD-RW. I tried MiniDVD on CD-R and CD-RW - both play fine at 4000bps, but at 6000bps and above playback jerky, 4-way navigation key on unit for menu does not work properley. I then tried SVCD on CD-R and CD-RW, plays fine, again navigation of menu did not work. Finally I tried VCD on CD-R and CD-RW, both 2.0 and 1.0. The 2.0 menu I could not get past the menu, but the 1.0 played fine. Very impressed that finally I find a player that can do all this ! Shame it costs 1800SGD (about 1050USD).

CVD? $1000 N/A 9 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: I've successfully tested with Kingston Hypermedia 8X & 12X, 74 & 80 min CD-R discs from outpost.com, some cheap Leda(?) 8X 74 min CD-R discs (silver on light blue) from shop4tech.com, Delta 16X 80 min CD-R discs (http://www.deltaca.com, http://www.accessmicro.com/productinfo.php3?ProductId=HDDELCDR200), TDK 74 min CD-R discs, and Samsung "High Density" 80 min CD-R discs. I couldn't get CD-RW discs (cheap "Mr. Platinum" 4x CD-RW discs from shop4tech.com) to work with the sample VCD posted here on VCDHelp using Nero. MiniDVD did play, but the sample I downloaded from here stops at 12 seconds into the clip. I haven't tried any other miniDVD. I heard from the user who posted in "Aiwa XD-DW1/5/7" that miniDVD does play perfectly though. Surprisingly, MP3 discs work too!!! Has playlist support too!!! It's not listed in the manual, but it plays it. The problem is, for some reason the player puts itself to sleep in about five minutes of playing MP3 discs. The screen goes off and the audio stops, but it's still powered on and playing the track(s), but just with no video or sound. Weird stuff. So to solve that I have to open and close the player, so that the video resets and then press line in/out button to get audio back. But this will make the player skip to the next track. This whole MP3 thing is stupid, because even after all that, it'll put itself to sleep again and you have to do it all over again. So the MP3 compatibility needs fixing. So, therefore DVD/miniDVD/XSVCD/SVCD/XVCD/VCD/CD/MP3/CD-R play perfectly. I just couldn't get CD-RW to work (maybe because it's the cheap brand). Overall this is an excellent portable player. Surprisingly even more compatible, versatile and better than my old Shinco DVD-960. Especially with the 7 inch screen. Highly recommend (especially if you can get it half off [$500] like I did ;-)!!!
