CVD? $300 N/A 6 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: True dolby5.1 Works really well. Plays dvds and certian copies of vcds, but I cannot get it to play vcd 2.0 whatever software I use. Therefore this disappoints me. I now have it region free using hack available on this site. 2 scarts and an optical ouput make this a great system for x-box, sky satellite and playstation 2. For this reason it is great, but too expensive for its features. Bought a dvd player from www.dabs.com for £39.99 ($65) and it plays EVERYTHING including kodak picture cds.

Didn't play MPEG MultiChannel though. Overall, a "very good" value for money.

Alsso play SVCD with 4 chanel audio track and subtitles make with DVD2SVCD and DVDx 2.0, made with NERO (SVCD plugin). The best way for subtitles is if you choos - permanent subtitles because it was make on MPEG. Now I have a problem with a new DVD, because the player don't show me a track even if I wait more then a 2 minutes. I must turn off the units more then 4-5 thimes (I use this units 11 months).

N/A 9 of 10 DivX Comments: The trick to select different audio tracks with SVCDs is to use the "Angle" button on the remote instead of Audio! It supports upto 4 different audio tracks. Overall, I like this player very much and would recommend. For the time being I'm busy testing DVD-MP3 and DVD-SVCD and also differnt +R/RW and -R/RW medias with it and will enventually report back the results.

CVD? $400 N/A 4 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename Comments: This is a very nice home theater system, however it will not play vcd's or svcd's from any disc created in the proper vcd/svcd format. It will play any mpeg file of any type or bitrate that is directly burned onto a cd-r with no playback controls other than pause or stop. The led display includes a VCD indicator so I called AIWA customer service to ask if this is supposed to play VCD's. The answer I received was "Are you sure this is a model we make?"!!!!! Technical assistance has no information of this model nor does it appear on their web site. After checking the Japanese AIWA site, it says this is their latest & greatest model and it supports VideoCD. I would not recommend anyone to buy from this company due to the fact that they don't have a clue(when I said this to a customer rep the reply was "Is there anything else I can help you with today?"). I have since purchased an APEX 1200 to play my SVCD's($360 cheaper & does it all!).

It even plays some standard computer video files ( not in vcd format ). But stilll not as versatile as my cheap £100 Dansai DVD 852 which plays just about anything.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Purchased the HT-DV90 today (05/06/02) from currys. Works great with vcd's & svcd's using DVD2SVCD and burning with Nero 5.5.8.2. I used no name cdr80 from PC World. I had taken some disks with me to currys, they were only to happy to try them out on various DVD players.
