I bought this dvd player because it was the cheapest one I could find with a built in Dolby digital converter with the 5.1 sockets for my surround sound processor.
And I have been really pleased with it plays virtually everything I have put in it.
The sound and picture quality are good. Apart from a click I get when I first switch it on when the surround sound processor is in 6 channel mode.
But that is a minor problem.
It was very easy to convert to multi region.
And recently I got a marantz sa-cd dvd player but I sent it back because. it wasn’t any better for playing films and there were more restriction with what you could play that there is with the acoustic solutions machine.
I have recently bought a lg. dvd multi burner. And everything I have burnt has played fine in this dvd player. using datawrite and infiniti disc's.
For the money I think it is very good machine.

it seems like this will play ANYTHING, and it prbably can.
It will play any CD-r or CD-rw i try in it.
will play VCD/SVCD/XVCD/XSVCD with no problems.
I just tried an XSVCD with the following settings:
720x576 (4:3) res.
MPEG-2
VBR - 5000kbits max setting with 4500kbits average.
audio 320kbits
the clip looked superb and almost as good as the original DV footage. And to add, this file written to the shadiest CD-r i've ever bought which cost me 12pence....(100 cd's for £12)
it plays all of the jpeg cds i put in, and any MP3 disk.
alround, the best £120 ever spent. |

No problems burning DVD-R with Pinnacle Studio
and Nero with my Pioneer 105 drive.
I have found the player very temperamental with
DVD-RW.
The only media which worked for me was Datawrite 1x.
The ones I tested which did not work were
Datawrite 2x, Verbatim DataLifePlus version 1.1,
Maxell 1 to 2x Ver1.1/2x
Also the DVD-RW only worked when I burned it with
my Pinnacle programs - Pinnacle Studio 8.5 and
Pinnacle Systems Instant CD/DVD version 7.0.
(Note with this that "New Project" does not
immediately give the option of DVD, but defaults
to CD - don't give up but right click your project
and then the general tab and change to DVD -
Under filesystems choose iso 9660-1
Uncheck Microsoft Joliet, Write file versions and Maximum of 8 etc.
Use Charset ISO9660
Check UDF and use version 1.02.
Then just put your Video_ts folder onto the DVD.
You must choose "data disc" to start with as
there is no direct option for DVD video)
Using the same options with Nero 5.5.10.0
the resulting disc was unplayable in the 551!
Note that I have only tried the Pinnacle programs
above and Nero. So I am uncertain of results with
other burning programs.
The player copes well with MP3 files - though
it cannot read long file names. It distinguishes
directories though.

Just bought this player following good reports posted on this site
Mainly will use it for my own SVCD & XSVCD CD's and plays them fine - tested upto 4200kbs - no problems.
Does tend to go a bit strange when I search forward though - will update report after more trials
So far so good - excellent budget player with lots of features |

A superb piece of equipment. I read the reviews here before I bought and to be honest, it was better than I was lead to believe. To date I can't find a damn thing wrong with it!
£120 from Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.com) or stores throughout the UK. It's money well spent.

Was going to give this player 9 out of 10 as you cannot disable macrovision - but what the hell, it's not really that important these days IMHO.
Previously brought the DVD451 - but took it back after I realised that model would not play DVD-R.
I have tested various cdr brands from cheapos to TDK and Verbatim - and it played the lot - no skipping at all.
The picture quality is superb - better than an Apex that I had but also took back as there was no VCD support????
Got from Richer Sounds for 119ukp - and I consider this to be the best money I have spent in a fair while. |

Quick Update
miniDVD plays fine even at the highest bit rates but no menu's, you have to pick the vts file to play it and manually change sound to c0 and no control when file is playing other than pause play and stop.
DVD-R/RW play perfectly with all menu's etc.
vob's and mpeg files play from an iso cd-r/rw.
My brother just got a Mustek 562 and the chassis looks identical to the Acoustic. It even has the same splash screen (dolphins) but the menu is slightly different and the multiregion hack is different so I guess it's the same player with different firmware. However he has had trouble playing the same media the Acoustic can handle. |

This is a little Gem. Plays all media I've thrown at it so far CD-R/RW DVD-R/RW
I've tested XSVCD to 4500cbr so far with superb results.
Plays DVD-R and DVD-RW burned with my Pioneer 104 without a hitch. Plays miniDVD.
MP3 playback is again very good but file names seem to be restricted to 6 chars.
Remote feels a bit cheap and you have to point it straight at the player to operate.
Got mine from Richer Sounds for 119ukp, went to shop with every intention of buying the CyberHome, they let me use all my test media to do a side by side comparison, the Acoustic picture quality was better and it played all the test media I had. The CyberHome wouldn't read the cheapest DVD-R I had, although to be fair it was only one disk out of about a dozen mixed cd-r cd-rw dvd-r and dvd-rw burned in various formats. |

I did a lot of research before buying, even considering paying up to £200 if a player suited my needs. I bought this at Richer Sounds for £119 and am delighted with its ability to play DVD-Rs, VCDs and MP3s without difficulty. It has 6 channel outputs (unlike specified elsewhere).
Downsides? Initial 'boom' of audio when switched on, leading me to switch my hi-fi on second, and I haven't found a way of demacrovisioning it on the internet.
Overall a great player for the price, especially if compatibility is important. |

| I can chuck any old CDR brand, and pretty much any CDRW. Even cheapo 'Princo'. Both VCD and SVCD playback is excellent. I can also confirm it will .mpg burnt in data format. One quibble, playing DVDs, if you 'pause' and then 'advance frame' straight after then 'play' you may find the audio out of sync, which rights itself on the next chapter. But all in all a great player, cheap as well. From Richer sounds, sometimes do deals at £99. |
