Mixed feelings about this media. It's burned successfully in a Panasonic UJ-815 a DMR-HS2 (Set-Top,) and a DMR-E500H (Set-Top) both successfully and unsuccessfully. I had a 70% success ratio and would grade these as "C-Quality" media; they're average, not above, not below, and if they burn, they usually work fine.

Burned with Roxio Toast 5 Titanium, also burned on set-top units. Discs seem to have a glitch during the lead-out on occasion. They'll fail to write, then verify successfully (completely negating their failure) and subsequently play on some (e.g. PS2) other DVD Players, but at the same time not play on other units as well. (E.g. Random Apex units.)This is why almost everything about these discs is mixed.

These are terrible. Discs freeze. One may play disc first time and it appears fine. The second time, though, it freezes off and on as it plays. I shall never purchase Optodiscs again. I have had the same experience with two different writers - Emprex 1004 (also, worthless) and Nec 3520A (very good).

This media seems to exert occasional glitches in the video, but only when burned at 2x. So I burn everything at 1x now, partly for data accuracy, and partly because my set-top DVD player has trouble seeing any discs burned above 1x.

ok well i bought these awhile back in 07/03. I bought a 50pk off of rima.com. Long time ago back in 06/02 these optodiscs worked perfectly fine. Until recently i guess they started to get cheap. I purchased the blue top optos at 1x and burned them at 1x on a a04. They worked perfectly fine at 1x with the 06/02 batch. They played perfectly fine on all dvd players also. Until i got the 07/03 batch which was horrible. They all burned at 1x fine but.... i didnt notice this til looking closer at the media and there are blemishes and scratches all over the dye on the bottom of the disc. There would be skipping all the time on these movies when it hit the area. Some didnt skip though. Beats me. i'd stay away from these.

Been using this media for almost 2yrs. The last 2 batch's ( I buy in bulk) have been of poor quality. Inconsistant reliabilty on 3 different burners. Close to 30% in this last batch result in incomplete burns. Did try using different burning programs( Nero /Clone etc) but the results are the Same. Burners used Are Pioneer A05/ Pioneer A06 and A plextor 708a. All failures were being recorded at 1x speed which eliminates spped being the problem.Have also found that they are very easy to scratch resulting in playbcak issues. Have now Switched to ritek Media with zero failure out of 90 burns using the same drive and same burning programs. In the past I would have recommended this as a good choice albeit slow budget media. I would now say stay away from it.

2 good burns outa 20 tries. Using a Pioneer 105 (rec 1.30) and LG4040 (rev A301), burn with both Nero 6 and Clone DVD. Both competes burn but the resulting copy will have digital artifacts all near the end of the copies and some copies will lock up DVD players (Panasonic/Norcent/Citizen DVD players and DVD burners). Just to check if it wasnt a burner issue, copied same discs using some name brands (Memorex +RW/+R , Vert -RW/-R, Panisonic DVD Ram) they they all worked fine. I used Optodiscs in th pass they mostly worked fine (4 or 5 failures outa 50). This was the 1st batch I got that are printable and they been a waste of money. Seems that the optodisck001's vary in quality from batch to batch and its a gamble as to see if you get a good batch or not. I will buy name brands from now on , even tho the generics are cheaper but they turning out to be more expensive due to all the bad burns.

Just bought my LG GSA-4040B today in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. Picked up 2 Optodisk DVD-R 4.7 GB OR470-000 for General use. They burnt successfully at both 2X and 1X using DVD Shrink (Backup mode of The Replacement Killers) and Nero 6 Ultra.

The problem was, with the first one I tried, the DVD writer chose 2X to write and although it burnt successfully the DVD-R fails about half way on every player I have tried it in. They were the APEX AD1500, the Pioneer 16X DVD ROM, and the Polaroid Portable DVD player I Have.

I re made the same backup but this time I forced 1X writing and the DVD wrote successfully again but this time all the above players failed just at the end. Around 3 GB mark.

Both disks started fast and looked to be a perfect backup but then at halfway for the 2x write and at the end for the 1x write the backup started stuttering and shortly after that froze, all at the exact same place on all readers. I checked the media and it looks OK, except for the center ring has some production bubbles but the actual writing surface looks fine.

The writer is at Firmware A300 but I think it is just the media, it has gotten some very mixed views. I was hoping to use it as it is spindled cheap here in Edmonton. Oh well I will pick up some Maxell and Memorex disks at Future Shop tomorrow. Hopefully they will work.

So far I am quite pleased with this media. Purchased from Rima.com in packs of 50 for 80 cents each. Great Realibility so far. I agree a think alot of media problems are due to hardware and software issues. The 2 coasters were bad discs and were noticable when inspecting discs.

Before July 2003. I have used more than 500 disc. All great except couple bad because of my rookie mistake
during june-july time frame. All opto discs are back order
After july 15, bought 500 from rima.com. The first two spindle just couple bad. But the 3rd and 4th are so damn bad. 35 of 50 are bad discs on the 3rd spindle and 20 out of 50 are in the 4 spindle
i'm working with rima.com to exchange them.
I give optodisc one more try. If this problem still happen i will go back to Ritek, ust little bit more expensive but save me alot of time

I have used two 50-pack spindles just fine, but I just started a new spindle and I keep getting write errors. Must be a bad batch. DVDinfo shows same code, but the writing on the discs is different. Previous spindle purchases were from Livewarehouse, this (bad) spindle was from Meritline (okay, I switched cause it was $2 cheaper).

First spindle of 50 was great, played back on everything. Second spindle had stuttering problems on half the disks. Third spindle was ok. Fourth spindle is a disaster. First time in over 400 burns I ever had Nero crap out while writing a disk. Happens on 4 out of 5. Nothing wrong with the burner, other disks (Ritek, Princo) burn fine. Extremely inconsistent. Last time I'll ever buy these.
