This is the same Hack as the BD-C6900, so all the credit and thanks goes to phil

1. Ensure that there is no disk in the tray.

2. Switch the player off and then back on. This is necessary to clean-boot the firmware.

3. Wait until the main menu page appears and the player stops doing anything.

4. Press the eject button to open the tray. (The button is between the "Power" and "TV Power" buttons at the top of the controller.)

5. Press the eject button to close the tray.

6. Wait while the player searches for a disk.

7. As soon as the "No Disk" message appears at the top left corner do the following.

8. Press the REPEAT button – just above the TV channel selector at the bottom right of the controller.

9. Enter 57538 on the number pad.

10. The region code "2" should appear at the top left corner of the screen.(this just flashed on then off, so keep an eye on the screen)

11. Enter a "9" to make the player region free.

12. Power down and power up again.

13. Play a foreign DVD to verify the change.

==========================================================================================================

I found if i messed it up the first time, i could just re-enter the code without starting from the beginning.

Firstly, you must start entering the code just after the "No Disk" message is shown and before the message disappears.

Secondly, the REPEAT key is part of the code. All six keys must be entered smoothly as "REPEAT 57538". The entry gets timed out so you can't stop in the middle and restart. Don't bash away like crazy, just do it smoothly and briskly.

If you don't see the "4" the first time, don't worry. Just repeat the process. It took me about a dozen tries before I got it to work.

I can't guarantee that this player does not have a region change counter so I would be a bit careful about changing regions back and forth. I also can't guarantee that this will work with all released firmware. Samsung seems to take this crazy region bastardry very seriously for some reason.

=======================================================

For people from other parts of the world, all region codes are as follows

1 – 2 9 3 3 4
2 – 5 7 5 3 8
3 – 5 6 7 3 2
4 – 7 6 8 8 4
5 – 5 3 8 1 4
6 – 2 4 4 6 2

This worked for me on the second attempt, first attempt was a learning curve.

I can confirm that the samsung BD-C5900 bought in Sweden code works. But be prepared to do it 30 times. First I was to slow, then to fast. I was going crazy. But as soon as the 2 or your regioncode appears on the top left corner press 9. A lot of releif after its done, but a lot of hard work.

PostRegion code hack posted by dieztex, October 11 2010:

Just to confirm the hack doesn't work with the firmware
BSP-C5900WWB-1003.1, I Tryed +30 times with no luck....
Do any one has the same issue ?

PostRegion code hack posted by here2rock, October 25 2010:

This code does work but I think the guide above is not quite correct (For Australian Version anyway).

I did it on an Australian region 4 version.

I followed the steps about 50 times without luck. Then by chance and through frustration I repeated the steps without opening and closing the tray (and also without turning it off and on, i repeated the following keys after one failed effort:

REPEAT 76884

I got it after fist failure.

My advice is follow as per above instructions if the 4 (or your region code) does not appear on teh screen, repeat the process quickly. Another note I pressed the last digit 4 a little longer than others. Once you see your region code hit 9.

Good luck, remember keep repeating without turning the power off/on and open/close tray options.

I am 100% confident that it will work if you follow my method.

PostRegion code hack posted by ajmh, October 25 2010:

I can confirm I've tried the above hack about 50 times now, with both full reset each time (about 25 times) and without (about 25 times). USA (region 1) with firmware bsp-c5900wwb-1003.1 does not seem to accept this method of unlocking (sadly).

PostRegion code hack posted by pasadena, October 26 2010:

Is this key sequence require everytime the machine is turned off or once applied will stay the region you select?

I got the Samsung today and loaded straight the new firmware (I think it's 1.007).. Anyway, I struggled a bit as well, but I found out that there is a short cut which worked straight away (instructions for an the Australian model):

4. After "No Disk" disappears on your screen

6. After "2" disappears, press 9.
7. Turn off, turn on power.

This hack worked the very first time I tried it!! This is after having first bought a Samsung BD-C6900, region 2, and trying this hack for several days and hundreds of tries. It did not work. I went back and returned it in exchange for a BD-C5900, region 2, and got it working on a Singapore bought DVD right away.

PostRegion code hack posted by Dantis, December 15 2010:

I can confirm that this hack worked second time for me. My 5900 was purchased here in Spain, just keep attempting the repeat57538 sequence until the number 2 appears in the top left hand corner of the screen.

I am assuming that this will only unlock standard discs and not Blu-ray Region discs?

thanks

Confirm it WORKED with firmware BSP-C5900WWB-1008.0 in a region 4 player. THANKS.

For unlocking the DVD player to play standard Region DVDs, (Region 1, 2, 3, 5,6) on the Samsung BD-C5900 please use :

1. Power on the TV and the DVD Player without any DVD in the tray. Wait for the DVD player to boot up and show the normal screen.
2. Press Eject to open the DVD tray. Close the DVD tray. Wait for "No disk" to appear on screen.
3. Press the Repeat key on the remote immediately after "No Disk" appears and before it disappears. (Do not confuse the "Repeat" key with "Repeat A-B")
4. Press 7 6 8 8 4 on the remote. The DVD player's current region setting "4" appears at the top left corner of the TV screen.
(The sequence Repeat 7 6 8 8 4 should be pressed smoothly and in a continuous flow, not too fast and not too slow.)
5. Press "9" on the remote for Region free for Region-free
(Press 9 after the Region Code "4" appears and before it disappears on the TV screen.
6. Power off the DVD player, wait for 30 seconds and then power on again

I just want to confirm the hack works. All you need is a little patience. As commented you don't need to start the process over again if it doesn't work the first time. Just keep pressing "repeat" and "57538", and you will see the "2" (or other local code) eventually.

If anyone else then me wondered if it mattered that the internet@tv function is on/off, I can assure you it doesn't.

I used this tutorial and tried several times to unlock my Samsung HT-C5900 region2 with firmware HTB-C6930WWB-1009.2, and I didnt got any success.

Anyone with this firmware or more recent firmware get success with this procedure?

I really believe that Samsung update last firmwares to prevent against this hack!!

I am using f/w 1010.4 and have tried this 100s of times but sadly got nowhere. Is there some magic to the rythym (e.g. press each key for 1/2 sec every second)? Is BDWise on? Is the network cable connected? I am so looking forward to seeing a "2" and wonder if my faiure to do so has something to do with the connections and/or set-up.

All help/thoughts gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Been trying all day to get it to work with no luck, I tried turning the player on/off hundreds of times, by the remote and plug and the "2" would not appear. I have the 1010.4 firmware. Real shame, it seems a good player.

The standard hack worked for me after third try.
This was an "old" clearance model with 2010 firmware.

PostRegion code hack posted by acs75, October 04 2013:

TESTED SUCCESSFUL ON BD-C5900 with latest FW 1016.0

First i had to downgrade my firmware: HOW to:

1.) use a a hexeditor to edit .RUF file (i used the latest version 1016.0) i changed the date to an actual one and the version name 10160 to 10704 also in the file name.

so i ended up with xxxxx1070.4.RUF (changed date and version in the file via hexeditor).

copy the file to USB Stick 1

2.) download an old firmware (i used xxx1004.3.RUF)

copy the file to USB Stick 2

plug USB Stick 1 and the player asks to upgrade choose OK, now the player will reboot so now its time to plug ouit USB Stick 1 out and attach USB Stick 2 (otherwise it will fail).

The install of the old FW worked flawless so i ended up with xxxx1004.3

Then i could apply the standard procedure: OPEN TRAY, PRESS REPEAT 57538 (i was on Region 2) and 2 was shown on the left upper corner then i pressed 9 and hurray: Code Free for DVDs!!!!!!!!!!

PostRegion code hack posted by Karl Anka, January 25 2014:

I tried to downgrade firmware the way Acs75 described and it worked fine. At first I tried to make my BD-C5900 region free with firmware 1016.0, but it didn't work for me. However, after downgrading to firmware version 1009.1 it worked. I tried firmware version 1014.1 but it didn't work to make it regionfree with that firmware, at least not in my hands. I should maybe add that I'm located in region 2.

PostRegion code hack posted by Evaldo, February 24 2014:

could someone provide me the link to download the old firmware 1004.3.RUF to use the downgrade described by Acs75.Thank you.

I'm from Italy and I bought an American Blu-ray disk but it
doesn't work on my Samsung BD-C5900 player; so I tried to do
the procedure posted here, I changed the "2" in "9" but it
still doesn't work. So I'd like to know if this procedure
works also for Blu-ray disks or only for DVDs. Thanks.

i have a the samsung BD-C5900 blu ray dvd. with firm ware
BSP-C5900WWB-1016. i manage to reset the region code from 3
to 9.

1) Off the set and turn it on again.
2) while the set is loading the menu screen. keep pressing
the "repeat56732" (code 3 for me)... ( you may need to keep
repeating it till you see a number appear on the top left of
the screen)
3) i manage to get a 3 appear in a box on the top left hand
corner of the screen.
4) i quickly press 9 to change the region code.
5) a 9 will re-appeared on the top left hand corner of the
screen.
6) done the code has change...

i tried it and it works.. some might asked why during the
initial loading as you may see the set is actually scanning
for disc in the tray during start up. and a no-disc actually
appeared. so no need to open tray and closed tray to get the
no disc. Also don't have to downgrade the firm ware 1016 is
fine...try it and let me know. good luck.
