Just tested it out on my MDV458/17,and it works great.Now I can replace the cyberhome 300.This dvd player is great and cheep.A much better choice then the cyberhome 300.Thanks for the Hack!! | |||

I have just bought a Magnavox MDV458 at Circuit City in Illinois, USA. Circuit City calls it MDV45817 or MDV458/17 on their website. The box only shows MDV458 but on one of the barcode labels the Model No. is mentioned as MDV458/17. I can confirm that the region hack posted by JonVoit (August 29, 2004) works for this DVD-Player. I exactly did the following: - Press "Power" to turn on the player. - Press "System Menu" key to enter Set Up menu. - Move to "Preference Page" using arrow keys to the left or to the right. - Press the following sequence in the remote control: 135566 - A menu indicating "Region Code" will appear. - Change region using arrow keys to top or down. Region Code = 0 will play all regions. - Press "System Menu" key to exit Set Up menu. - Press "Power" to turn off the player. I tried the german DVDs (PAL) "Der Schuh des Manitu (Extra Large)" and "Zurück in die Zukunft 1-3". All DVDs played without problems, and since the DVDs are PAL system and my TV is a NTSC TV it appearently also converts from PAL to NTSC, at least I coudn't notice any stretching of the movies. This hack does work so thank you very much. I also wanted to add, if you get DVD's that are PAL REGION 0, you should be able to play those on most machines anyway. I just received the complete 3rd Rock from the Sun episodes from the UK and it would play on my Sony unit that doesn't have hack compatibility. And the discs are REGION 0 PAL as I mentioned above. I did set my player to REGION 0 anyway. In your menu preferences on this player, don't worry about setting to MULTI, you can keep it in NTSC format. | |||

I just bought Kung-Fu Hustle and House of Flying Daggers DVD online. It turns out to be region 3 DVDs. With this region hack, it allows me to play them all. Thank you for those who post the hack. BTW, I got my Magnavox MDV458/17 from Best Buy in Portland Oregon in late November 2004. | |||

I'm gonna menction that this does work on my MDV458 DVD player. Just be sure to not have any discs in when you do this for it to work. | |||
