After trying so many other remote control hacking methods....finally did it but with a CD, not by remote control. You don't have to install anything, you just use the CD like a boot CD on your computer.

I've used the method described on this site for other LG DVD players and it's basically the same all over, but here's the one I've used: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/lg-lh-cx247w/5416

So this one works with HT762TZ also and it might work with other trademarks, not only LG, but I didn't test it.

And this is the link to download the archive:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050303212846/http:// ... LG6053.exe

After you download it, extract it on your computer and use a burning tool (I've used Nero Express) to create a CD with the image (.cue file) from that archive. You're now ready to hack your DVD player. Just insert the CD in the unit, a region code edit menu will appear, the CD will be ejected automatically, take out the CD. In the menu you'll see the current region code (mine was 2) and you are prompted for a new value: enter "0" and press "Enter" on the remote. After that just hit "Pause" to exit the menu and some people recommend that you turn off and on the player, not sure if this is really necessary but there's no harm in doing so.

After rebooting your unit (turn off and on) you're good to go, you can enjoy any region code DVDs.

Best of luck and let me know if it does or doesn't work.

As a last remark: I've used a CD-R but it should work the same with a CD-RW, if you don't want to lose a CD-R. But it's good to have a copy for later, if by some chance you return to the factory settings or some of your friends need it too.

Talking about factory settings here's what I have discovered trying to hack my DVD player: some of the hacking methods for LG using only the remote will tell you to go in the "Setup" menu under Aspect Ratio (or something like that) and highlight the "16:9" ratio (without pressing "Enter") and insert the code 1 3 9 7 1 3 9. After hitting "Enter" I've discovered that for this model (LG HT762TZ) it's the factory settings reset and you'll get more info about your product on the page displayed upon inserting the code....it's good to know....in case you forget your password...or if you're just curious. But make sure you still have a copy of that region free CD that I was telling you about earlier.

Cheers!!!
