My model is SD-V596, and I successfully hacked it region free with the hack posted by Craigconfire, January 02 2004: This hack works: Follow the links above... to the instructions posted by NEO... for the LG 6054 using the LG 6188 hack. 1. Downloaded the file from: http://mypage.bluewin.ch/a-z/chaos-kitties/downloads/RMTM0000.sit 2. unpacked the RMTM0000.sit file with "StuffIt Standard Edition 8.0" (http://www.aladdinsys.com/downloads/index.html) Trail version. 3. Burned the whole DIR (RMTM0000) to a CD using Nero Burning ROM (ISO Level 1, Mode 1, ISO 9660) 4. Inserted the burned CD into the dvd, wait for the menu on the LCD of the dvd. 5. Pressed "0" then "PAUSE", turned the dvd OFF 6. That's it !!!, REGION FREE. | |||

After not being able to hack the Samsung DVD-V4800 combo (dvd/vcr) with any of the region hacks for samsungs I went back to best buy and exchanged it with a Toshiba SDV592 seeing that there was a hack for it. I followed the instructions to the dot as instructed above and it worked....PERFECTLY. If anyone is looking to get a dvd/vcr combo player that is able to be hacked to be region free, this is the player to get. It may cost more, but it has the upconversion for HDs and has an HDMI port which the samsung did not have. | |||

I tried the hack as posted by Tereba above and it worked perfectly. I would like to modify the explanation however to make it more clear. Once you have downloaded the RMTM0000.sit file and have uncompressed it using the Stuffit application, I did the following: 1) Burn a CD using Roxio Project DataCD ensuring that I finalized the disc once burning completed. I first tried using DirectCD and closing the disc, but this did not work. 2) Insert CD into Toshiba with your television on, once the disc loads you will get a region code menu appearing on your television. 3) Select 0 for region free and hit the pause button to exit. 4) Turn Toshiba off and on again and you're ready to go! I can now watch any region dvds in their full 1080 upscale glory! Goodluck. | |||

The hack listed above works. I'm using a Windows computer and had to download the trial Stuffit Standard version. Do not download the Express, as it will just get you an error code trying to open it (created by a later version). Anyways, burn it using whatever you can; I used HP Record (very poor software compared to Nero) and it worked fine. | |||

to clarify, I have a toshiba sd-v592su/sd-v596su (same owners manual) Seems fox dvds get the region violation when played the previous entries mentioned websites that no longer exist, but I found http://www.auspaytv.com/targa/dvd_iso.htm I downloaded the RMTM0000.zip file, unzipped it. Used Roxio Creator 2009 to burn a CD-R, making sure I had one directory with one file. Closed the CD. I placed the CD in the DVD, powered up and changed the country code to 0. Took all of 15 seconds. | |||
