Here is a version for the One-For-All : (I used a "4-Device Video Expert" - URC-4081, which I bought on EBay for less than $10, and had it shipped to me in Belgium. I have used the same technique with PDAWin's Universal Remote on an iPAQ Pocket PC for a Sony DVP-NS305 - so I am pretty certain that this method works for most Sony DVD players/writers - with any of the methods to send the "12345" sequence.) When the "magic button" is referred to on other posts - I have replaced it by "SET" as that is the corresponding button on the One4All "Video Expert" and other less advanced One-For-All remotes. Also, others write "until the rabbit comes out" - on the Video expert the LED blinks twice. Prepare the Remote - One-For-All: 1. Select DVD button on remote 2. Hold SET (or magic) button until the LED blinks twice ("rabbit comes out") 3. Enter device code 0533 Next, you need to program buttons 1..5 with the following codes: 1 = 189, 2 = 255, 3 = 095, 4 = 221, 5 = 079 To program the buttons, do the following: 1. Hold SET button until the LED blinks twice 2. Press 994 (LED blinks twice) 3. Press (not hold) SET - LED blinks once 4. Enter the 3-digit code plus the button to assign it to: 1891 (this programs button 1 = 189) LED blinks twice. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each of the remaining keys (2->5), using 2552, 0953, 2214, 0795 in place of 1891. Reprogram your DVD player/writer: 1. Remove disk and put player on standby 2. Press 1,2,3,4,5 (pause briefly between each button and make sure LED of remote flashes) - on Sony RDR-HX710 "TIMER OK" is displayed on Sony DVP-NS305 "SUCCESS" is displayed (and player starts up). Your DVD player/writer should now accept DVDs from any region (I have tried with Region 1 & 2). If it does not, then add this extra step (#3) to the "reprogram" process: 3. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - player shuts down and you're ready! I have also seen some people suggest pressing 1122334455 (really make sure that the player/writer receives the necessary code), that did not work for me - I had to use 12345. This should work for most of the DVP-NS### players and the RDR-GX### / RDR-HX### series of HDD/DVD writers. | |||

I just bought my HX710 from a friend who works at a electronic store closeby and he made it regionfree by following some instructions from Sony. It was something similar to what JEdison mentioned above but the HX710 will NOT say "SUCCESS" nor will it turn on after the codes have been entered. We've tried it with both a region 1 & 2 movie and they both work just fine! The whole procedure was done with a black Sony one-for-all (a wide one) remote but should, according to my friend, work with any one-for-all remote that can be linked to a Sony product. | |||

Hi, I have tried the hack posted by Jedison on my Sony RDR HX710 with a oneforall Kameleon 4 URC 8040. I got the following problems: 1- using code 0533 (or 0573 or 1903 or 1904) to identify my HX710 does not work!!! I can identify my TV set and videorecorder without problems with the codes provided by OneForAll but not the HX710 2- I can only assign 5 digits function codes to keys 1,2,3,4,5 etc... Would any of you know a way to correct these problems? Thanks Ps: I also tried a method known as "RMTM0000 SCARLET DVD hack" but it did not work either (is supposed to work with most Sony DVD players) | |||

This seems to use the same hack as all the other recent Sony DVD players/recorders. I've not confirmed this yet on the HX-710 but it should work as the other hacks are using the same codes. I have successfully used this on an RDR-GX3, a DAV-S800 and an NS355. I managed it Psiloc Total IR Remote on my Sony Ericsson P900 (Compatible with: P800, P900, P910, BenQ P30, Arima)- Free trial download! (This program is also available for available for: Nokia 3650/3600, 3660/3620, 6600, 7650, Siemens SX1, Panasonic X700, Samsung SGH-D710, Motorola A1000) Total IR remote (UIQ version) available here: http://www.psiloc.com/index.html?action=ShowArticleItem&ida=140 Total IR remote (Series 60 version) available here: http://www.psiloc.com/index.html?action=ShowArticleItem&ida=152 I then got a Philips Pronto setup file from Remotecentral.com: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... rea=pronto Total IR recognises this file - beam it to the phone (or download it using the phone) - open the file, then select to import the codes. Now open Total IR and select to add any device by tapping one of the buttons(I used a Sony TV setting as it has numbers on it). Assign the buttons thus: Tap the menu button in the bottom left corner, then tap Select Command - dismiss the dialog that pops up then tap the 1 button on the remote. Press select on the next dialog... Here I ran into a snag - but I worked it out from the fact that I learned on another forum that button 5 should be the power button - but button 1 was power for me. SO the codes were backwards! Assign Unnamed 5 by tapping Done. Repeat for buttons 2-5 by assigning 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively. Who knows, maybe for you the codes import the right way around - so if this doesn't work, try assigning code 1 to button 1. | |||

For the above mentioned 1-for-all-remote hack I had to turn the RDR-710 into command-mode DVD 1 (DVD 3 is factory-default!). After turning the player to command mode DVD1 it accapted the 1-for-all hack as described! Afterwards you can turn the player back to command-mode DVD 3 - don't forget to turn your Sony-remote-control to command-mode DVD 1 aswell (slip down the cover at the lower end of the rc and switch the slider on the bottom right to DVD 1). The RDR-HX710 can also be made region free by using a Palm (in my case the T3). I used the OmniRemotePro 2.15 from Pacificneotek installed in the Palm, and the following converter (http://www.pacificneotek.com/software/CCFCnvt.zipconvert) to convert the following .ccf file (http://www.xs4all.nl/~pbonnet/sony.zip) to .pdb Then install the .pdb file, open Omniremotepro and change the database to the one you have just installed. Now press 1122334455 and you'll see "Timer OK" That's done | |||

I got the device code 0553 to work while setting the remote to work under the dvd1 setting (page 21 in the hx710 pdf-manual) I have a Kameleon all-in-one-6 and programmed it by using key magic,like this: 1.Press Hat (rabbit comes out) 2.Press Key Magic 3.Press DVD icon 4.Press Hat 5.program the key (001891) Goto step 2-5 (002552) Goto step 2-5 (000953) Goto step 2-5 (002214) Goto step 2-5 (000795) But...the only thing that happens after pressing key 1 to 5 is that the recorder power up as it should,but I don't get TIMER OK WHY? Using the Palm/Omniremote codes posted on this site (and elsewhere) I still found I could not make my [PAL/UK] RDR-HX710 multi-region. The instructions given say to put the player in stand-by before pressing 1122334455. For me, that didn't work. As a "last ditch" attempt, I had the player on, in DVD mode, with the DVD tray closed and empty. Prior to that I had unplugged it from the mains for a clear 10 seconds, then plugged it in and waited while it boots and goes in to stand-by. Only then did I use the remote to turn it on and select DVD mode. After sending the codes with my Clie palmtop (and the display on the front reporting "TIMER OK"), using the RDR-HX710's own handset I put it back in stand-by. Then power on again with the same remote, and it played a region 1 DVD just fine. In summary, if you're having no success with the player in stand-by mode when applying the hack, turn it on first. Hi I have just sucessfully made region free my Sony RDR-HX710 using a Palm T3. Although people on this site have done this before, their instructions weren't that clear, so I thought I'd post mine, in the hope that they make it easier for others. What you need: -OmniRemotePro 2.15 installed in the Palm - download it from www.pacifineotek.com -The CCFC converter, download it from www.pacificneotek.com -The following .ccf file :http://www.xs4all.nl/~pbonnet/sony.zip Method You need to install OmniProRemote and the converted .ccf file (converted to a .pdb file using the converter) on the Palm. Converting the .ccf file to a .pdb file 1. Install CCFCnvt on the PC, then start it. 2. Click 'Read CCF file' then select 'Sony.ccf' 3. In 'View panel'- change to 160 x 160 (7 grey buttons appear) 4. In 'Pronto panels' click on '00000B30-panel' and click the right pointing arrow that points at box called 'Palm categories'. '00000B30-panel' should now appear in the box entitled 'Palm categories'. 5. Change 'View panel' to 320 x 320 6. Press button labeled 'Generate PDB'. 7. Now sync the .pdb file to the Palm and continue below... **if, once the .pdb file is loaded into the Palm, the buttons won't appear on screen, play around with the 'View panel' settings - possibly omit step 5 above and leave the size and 160 x 160. Loading the .pdb database and performing the unlock procedure: 1. Start OmniRemote Pro, then click on OmniRemote Pro/Advanced/ Databases 2. From the 'Choose database' drop-down menu, choose 'ProntoCnvt or ProntoCnvt2 then click the 'Load' button (see note above in 'Method' re which one to use) 3. In the top right corner of the screen, click 'Unfiled/panel' 4. Put the DVD unit into standby (ie mains power on, but unit 'off'). 5. Point the Palm at the DVD unit from close (0.5m) and using the OmniProRemote buttons that appeared on the screen after selecting 'panel', enter the following code: 1122334455 6. The DVD unit should display the words 'Timer ok' - and it should now be region free! 7. If this doesn't work, make sure the DVD tray is empty, then turn power off at mains for 10 seconds. Turn mains power on, and wait for unit to boot. Now, using DVD's own remote, turn it on and put unit into DVD mode. Now, using DVD's own remote, turn unit 'off' - ie into standby. Do step 6 above. If it still doesn't work, try entering the code with the unit 'on' - ie not in standby. | |||

I have the Sony RDR-HX710 and I used the Region code hack posted by StevenS, November 02 2005. It worked fine for me. There is a couple of things that I hade to do different or that responded different from the guide at http://www.selen.org/sonydvd.html. First of all I needed to assign com port 3 to the IRDA on my laptop (Compaq Presario X1115EA). Use the command line option 'winsamp C3' to assign com port 3. Second thing was changing the "command mode" for the remote control on the DVD recorder. U do that in the "system menu" of the DVD recorder, change it to command mode 1 (default is 3). Third thing was the respond from the DVD recorder, it went out from stanby mode and wrote "Timer ok" in the display after the last input from the laptops ir port. I only had to do the 1-5 input in winsamp ones, then it was region free. PS: If you are unsure that the IR port is sending on the laptop, use a videocam or the videocam future on your mobilephone, looking through those when sending... you should see a white light blinking from the IR eye. I used the Kameleon 3 all-in-one and the below mentioned procedure worked perfect for my RDR-HX910. Attention : I first did put a region 1 DVD and waiting until I got the code that it was blocked for region reasons. Then I did put my recorder in the HD modus (not DVD). To put into the HD modus just push the HD button on your recorder (not your remote). First change the command mode of your sony recorder to DVD1(manual page 23) and change it also your remote. Default is DVD3. Prepare your remote: 1. press dvd 2. press magic button (hat) and hold until rabbit pops-up 3. press 0533 (only for the commande mode DVD1) The IR blinks twice and you can now control the recorder with this remote Prepare the buttons 1.....5 (key magic) 1. press the magic button (hat) and hold until rabbit comes out 2. press 994. 3. press DVD 4. Press only once and short on Magic button (hat) 5. press 001891 (it might be necessary that you press the scroll button between some numbers) Repeat this procedure for 00255, 000953, 002214 and 000795. Last fase : reprogram your dvd recorder: 1. remove the disc and put the player on standby 2. press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, with a brief pause between each button and make sure LED of the remote flashes The player should turn on and TIMER OK displays. Congratulations! Youre dvd recorder is now regionfree I didn`t need to press again 1 2 3 4 5 as mentioned in the other posts. | |||
