I have been trying to use Peter's hack for a while with no luck. I have tried from both a laptop and OmniRemote on a Palm. In both cases the player turns off, but when it comes back on it's not multiregion. Any ideas? | |||

According to one of those guys at one of those online remote control rental services, this procedure is not possible on North American models. However, there have been reports that the firmware found at http://www.pioneerfaq.info works internationally. Good luck. | |||

Pioneer DV-490 Region 1 Hack I am the proud owner of a hacked region 1 Pioneer DV-490V bought in Canada. 1. Download the modified soft from http://forum.pioneerdivx.net/dload.htm?action=category&id=21. There are several files, but I downloaded and tested file Zmodyfikowane fw YDB6C18A - by Robert wer. z dnia 22.4.2007. (YOU MAY NEED TO LOG ON TO DOWNLOAD FILES) 2. Unzip all 4 files. 3. For 490 change the file name to: YDB6c18A.BIN 4. Burn the YDB6c18A.BIN file to a blank CD-R following instructions from the PDF file: Instrukcja wgrywania oprogramowania dla odtwarzaczy Pioneer.pdf 5. Put the CD in the DVD and when prompted confirm that you want to update the software. 6. The software will downloaded and the disk will be ejected. 7. Take out the disk and wait 1-2 minuts for the DVD to update. DURING THIS TIME DO NOT TURN THE DVD OFF OR PLAY WITH THE REMOTE!!! 8. Once the DVD restarts press and hold the PLAY button on your remote until the DVD turns itself off. Walla - you now have a region free DVD. IMPORTANT: The downloaded software switches your on screen language from English to Polish. The remaining languages are still available.
