Firstly the system : P3 800 128mb pc133 ram 80 gigabyte western digital hard drive pioneer 107B dvd burner Liteon 16102b cd burner asus 32mb 256 geforce2 VIVO Running windows me (no option on site for this) Software : Asus Live Virtualdub Virtualvcr Captv Ulead videostudio 7 Dvd burning via Dvd-lab The capture : Is 704x576 pal 25fps (not 720x576 as mentioned above) VirtualVcr : excellent 704x576 capture , use smothing , excellent (note below) Captv : another excellent product , though let down by lack of filtering ability (non-existent) Ulead videostudio 7 : good mpeg1 , but faster pc required for mpeg2 . Virtualdub : excellent , lock to 25fps , capture into several codecs available at full processing , with cpu maxed at 55% . So there you have it , but read this . Note : asus codecs ONLY detect macrovision if using Asus Live application , all others are un-effected , even when using Asus's new compression codec (which at 704x576 , cpu is at less than 26% utilized). In virtualdub , capture using latest codec from Asus , frameserve video later to bbmpeg , but do the audio with besweet (must convert it to 48khz if dvd is chosen in bbmpeg). Note : P3 800 using capture rate of 704x576 via asus latest codec equals around 100mbs per 6 minutes of capture . Warning : P3 800 will require atleast 1 hour per 11000 frames to be encoded via bbmpeg . I personally run the video through mainconcepts mpeg encoder just to be sure before bring it into dvd-lab . PS : dvd-labs help file could do with a LOT more work . Quality : I have been told its 700% better than what some people have been buying . Capturing from commercial tapes is recommended for quality . Capturing from your old tv recorded shows from vhs , should be done via a program such as ulead videostudio into mpeg2 , it looks 80% better in finished product . ME : 13 years in computer industry . : video capture and conversion - 5 years Recommended cards : Leadtek or winfast pci expert Any Asus / Nvidia Vivo cards (asus require 3.3volts agp) Do not touch : Flyvideo (any of them, quality is poor) Hope this helps in your decision . Card is exceptionally good for video capture upto 720x480 on both windows 98SE and XP. Note: both were using FAT32, I have yet to get the Asus 44.03 drivers to work with XP and NTFS. Trying the Nvidia drivers next. Other than the drivers now, the card is amazing. NO, I mean no dropped frames on full screen capture. 1/15,000 frames might drop! Love the svideo in, works like a charm. Not too happy with the Asus DVCR software, poor quality capture as compared to Vdub and others. LOVED it on Windows 98, ME, and Windows 2000 using Asus Live capture utility from Asus. It dropped very few frames capturing at 352x288 using Microsoft Codec V2. XP is another story. So far, using the most current drivers from Asus, it captures about 15 minutes then locks down the entire machine requiring a reset reboot. a super card especialy with the asus v2 codec capture tv in 704x576 25fr/s (pal)no droped frames it can even capture "raw" with a data stream of +/-28 Mb/sec in the yuv or 24bits color ps i use compsite videocable to capture tv from a tvset it has also a trick for de interlacing the signal by capturing only half the screen (and calculating the other half later 704x288) Comments posted by Sander de Valk from Other, December 06, 2001: Compatibility: Win95?
