This thing is awesome! It has two coax inputs (one for each tuner, of course), and an ethernet port. This nifty little configuration means you can access HDTV signals from any PC in the house -- without having to run antenna connections to all those PC's. Just run two coax leads from your antenna into the HD-HR, and a CAT5 cable from the HD-HR to your router. Download the BDA drivers from SiliconDust's web site, install on all PC's that you want to watch/record HDTV. As you might infer from the above, the HD-HR comes with no software. None. But VLC works fine and dandy with it for watching live HDTV. Windows Media Center (both XP and Vista) works great with it for live TV and recording for timeshifting/posterity. I've not been able to get MediaPortal to work with it, but then I've never been able to get ANY tuner to work with MediaPortal. Other users have no problem getting MediaPortal and the HD-HR to work together. If you're a Linux user, MythTV should work with it right out of the box... though I'm not enough of a Linux user to verify that firsthand. Picture quality is fabulous, as is sound quality. Sensitivity is amazing. I've had many HD tuners over the years... Sony HD100, Hughes HTL-HD, Tivo HR10-250, DirecTV HR20 standalone/DirecTV tuners... FusionHDTV and Kworld cards for the PC. The HD-HR is the only tuner that's ever been able to pick up KNLC-DT (a very low power religious channel that seems powered by a couple of squirrels on treadmills) in my area. I've never really cared about that channel, but the fact that this tuner is the first to receive it after all these years says a LOT about its sensitivity. It should work with OTA and clear QAM, though I only use OTA so can't comment about cable TV on this unit. If you had Charter Cable in your area, you'd only use OTA too! BTW, I still get my non-OTA channels from DirecTV. Remember all the comments here about how the Canopus ADVC-100 was the easiest and the best capture card ever? Well, the SiliconDust HDHomeRun is the HD tuner equivalent of the Canopus. You'll be watching/recording HDTV within ten minutes of setting this up.
