I have two DV500 DVD. One installed at my Company workstation and another on my home. The first one works with Win2K, the other with WinXP. I have no trouble since I began to work with, four years ago. I use all kind of sources: analogue tapes, DVD, digital video (Sony DV), sometimes all mixed up on the same Project. The system digests everything without complain...
I use Adobe Premiere 6.5 for edition and Adobe Encore to produce the final DVD´s.

My card has been worcking for a couple of years without any trouble. I've been upgrading the drives from pinnacle site, and now i'm using 4.5 with premiere 6.5.
Very stable with win 2k. Now i'm using XP, and no trouble at all.
The encoder included in premiere, made by Media Concept has been very usefull, because it lets you change the settings. You can make your own codec.
By the way did anyone try this card with Premiere Pro?
I think it can handle, but anyway i'll try it.

I have had this card for a couple of years and have found it to be excellent. The fact taht it comes bundled with Adobe Premiere is a real bonus.

I have upgraded to the latest DVD500 software and Premiere 6.5 both of which have proved to be very good.

I know a lot of users have had trouble with DVD Tools but that has not been my experience. The new version works very well in deed and simplifies the capture of video. I use a Panasonic DV camcorder.

I would recommend this product wholeheartedly.

I've had the DV500 for about a year with no problems. The AVIs are great quality and I use Cinema Craft for MPEG-2 encoding. The DV500 can encode MP2s using the hardware but you end up with 2 files, the MP2 and WAV.

I use the transitions alot and there's quite a selection. Premiere 6.0 took some time to learn but it's well worth it. Using a Sony DV camera works fine with the DV control feature.

Overall I would recommend this card and software.

Very nice card !

No problem with bundled softwares : I use DVTools for DV capture (Sony TRV330E) and Adobe Premiere 6.5 for analog capture and export VCD/SVCD. The both softwares work very fine on my computer.

Not every camera works with the Pinnacle DV 500 DVD. If you have a Sony DV you're probably going to be okay if not, you might wanna check before you buy.

Installing the software for the card was a made very hard because Pinnacle really did a lousy job with their installer. It keeps installing the software over and over again unless you stop it

Also Pinnacle replaces the standard Windows firewire driver with their own driver and the Pinnacles driver only works with your Pinnacle card. So if you make heavy use of your fire wire port, it will be rendered useless for anything else but capturing film from you DV.

Also when I bought the product it was new and costed almost $700. But it came with Adobe premiere 6.0 so that's not a bad price at all. But for that price you get NO, nada, nix, costumer support. You can't even Email them.

That is why I give the product a low rating.

Having said all that, the card works great. It comes with all kinds of very, very need effects. Also Pinnacle had an offering that you could update Premiere from 6.0 to 6.5 for only $25 dollars and that's a real steal. For that price Pinnacle threw in some more effects. However you must know where to look for it because it's not an upgrade you pay for but it's on one of the CD's intended to upgrade an other capture card.

If it wasn't for the crappy support I would give the card a 9 but I think it not right how Pinnacle treads their costumers so a 5 it is.

This is an excellent card. Prior to having this package, I used TMPenc for all of my MPEG-2 exports from Adobe Premiere. Well, now I use the built-in Adobe/Pinnacle export tools, and it's easy, fast, and the quality is nice!

This card is well worth the money, and has saved me a lot of time.

- Exceptional quality, if your keen.
- Comes with loads of cool software but requires at least a gig of ram to run smoothly.
- DV Tools capture is prone to crashing.
- Really good looking breakout box.
