Absolutely killer. Not only does it work as advertised, it was easy to install, and worked right out of the box.

Only comment I would have is be ready to have at least 3 Hard drives.

1, System
2, AV drive
3, Export

Otherwise it rules

Topnotch quality and speed, but it needs a system with fast PCI to host memory bandwidth. Chipsets that work, in order of preferernce;

Intel
SiS (P4 or AMD)
AMD (but not with VIA southbridge)

Don't even bother;

VIA
nVidia nForce or nForce2

Extra goodness:

analog capture (composite or S-Video) with the latest Xtreme drivers using AVI_IO, VirtualDUB, Uleads capture tools etc. etc. Available analog capture formats: RGB24, YUV or DV/DVCAM. RGB24 has frame sizes ranging from 160x120 to 720x480, including halfD1 (352x480).

Extra goodness2: its ability to send DirectShow playback (MediaPlayer, MediaStudio Pro, VideoStudio etc) out thorugh its analog outputs. Doesn't matter what codec, as long as the WYSIWYG tool is turned on and the codec is installed.

Great card....

SInce I would be spending a chunk of $$$ for a top quality card, I really researched what was available. I am not disappointed with the results. The RT.x100 Extreme has to be one of the top cards out there. Matrox has excellent support services like their user forums. They will even call you at home to help you if needed! Good luck trying to get that from anyone else.

It comes with Adobe Premiere 6.5, Premiere training CD, Sonic DVDit!LE and the Matrox xTools package/drivers. After I purchased it Matrox offered a free upgrade to Sonic DVDit!SE. Thats a $300.00 product! I have never dropped a frame with it, ever. Analog input results in excellent captures. DV/1394 captures are flawless.

The hardware requirements are steep. 7200 rpm ATA133 or 9000 rpm SCSI drives are recommended. Separate AV drives are neccessary. Since the hardware is scalable, the faster your cpu runs, the better it runs. I initially used it with a P4-1.8 GHz with no problems, and have upgraded to a P4-2.533 GHz with quicker rendering/encoding results.

I can start a capture and leave the computer for 2+ hours, return and end the capture. Stable as a rock. One note, I have found through the years that unless you want to deal with various patches and driver issues, stick with Intel chipset based motherboards and Intel processors. And get LOTS of RAM. I use 1,024 Mb of it.

This card, software, support and warranty earns it a 10+ in my estimation. I once had a BIOS flash go bad on a Matrox G-400 Max video card after it was out of warranty and Matrox replaced it anyway. I have used Matrox products since 1996 and have been very happy with them!

Excelent card . No easy to setup, and requires things like a dedicated harddisk drive to capture. I have a P4 2.4 769Mb. Real time Mpeg is not the best..But really time effects are super. Must replace Adobe Mpeg Encoder 1.1 by 1.2 , or you will get a realy bad quality when previewing mpeg with Pc Software .

Wow! This is in my opinion the best card out there. You can pretty much do anyyyything you want in terms of editing/converting/creating... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My installation went smoothly and easily. I really like the real time MPEG-2 export. Also like super smooth slow motion effects, titling, and real time transition special effects when used with Premiere 6.5. Only a handfull of the standard Premiere transition effects won't preview in real time. The analog capture is very nice. I capture using analog audio, S-Video for picture, and firewire for on-screen camera operation. It uses the batch capture function in Premiere very well. Highly recommend.

Extraordinary real-time DV editing card. Very fast, very flexible, and produces top quality video.

I installed it on a PC using Pentium 4, 2Ghz and Window XP. It runs smooth, and didn't have any problems with the installation.

There were a couple of minor issues that kept me from giving the card a full 10.

PROS:
- Outstanding video quality
- Very fast processing, true real-time capabilities
- Packs a lot of native Matrox effects that render on the fly, on real time.
- Impressive color correction and chroma key features.
- Great feature that allows you to capture directly to Mpeg-2 for DVD production.

CONS:
- Does not support Mpeg files. It only edits DV files, but allows you to export your videos to Mpeg-2, through hardware conversion. Very fast.
- Does not preview on real-time any effect or transition that is not Matrox-native. If you apply any effects to your Premiere movie other than the ones supplied with the Matrox software, you'll have to render them. Nevertheless, the rendering of these in my system were fairly quick.
- There are a few DV cameras that are not compatible with this card.

Overall, a very good DV editing card, with really good image quality and real-time capabilities.

Excel in real time exporting to mpeg-2
But lack capability of capturing to MPEG-2 I Frame, like it's predecessor RT-2500.
Demand very high spec of computer...

Some problems setting the card...but runs smoothly. I use various Avids during the day so I don't think i want to comapre apples to oranges, but Matrox certainly has a unit to be proud of.
