Nice hardware and bad software. I have DVC130 rev.1.2 and after installing the proper driver it's not compatible not with Windows movie maker nor VirtualDub and I never knew that to get an mpg file on my slow machine with this excellent hardware-based encoder I have to install 2gb of software (ok, Instant DVD recorder takes much less space, but you will get vob stuff that you will have to demux in order to do some editing). So the only thing that saved me is DVCCAP software (search for it). It's free (donate if you like it) and finally (as an example) you will need only two actions and few space to turn you ASUS ee pc into mpeg2 recording device. 1. Install drivers from pinnaclesys site (installer: 6 mb), 2. DVCCAP (installer: 2mb). that's all. So finally shape on pinnacle for making things so complex. And viva enthusiasts for making things much easier ) Comments posted by Maksee from Russian Federation, July 19, 2008: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP Vista? NT4? MAC? Easier to set up on Vista than I thought. Also extremely easy to use. However...the quality of captures no matter the source or settings was terrible. Very blurry and pixelated. I made my VHS tapes look worse than something on You Tube! Comments posted by code101 from United States, June 23, 2008: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP? Vista NT4? MAC? I just got this capture device and I have to say this is the first time I got an actual MPEG 2 hardware encoder and so far I am impressed with the results. It can capture hardware MPEG4 and DIVX too. I was hesitate about using USB to capture video but this one worked for me. I have captured with a AMD FX-62 with 2 gig ram and sata drive system. As with all editing software I install the 3 disks in the order the instructions say then reboot then plug in the adapter and your set to go. With the install process it takes a little while because the programs are very big. What I learned many times over is that I must start from a clean most up to date operating system without any other editing or capturing software installed on the system because I been burnt to many times with codec conflicts. My purpose is to complete my old VHS tapes to DVD transition to get away from tape completely. I don't know if this hardware will work with other software or not. Works perfectly on windows vista. All you have to do is go to the pinnacle systems website and download studio 10.8 update. I hope this helps many people who have been trying to find a capture card that works for windows vista. HALLELUJAH! I thought that it works great! I have been recording sessions of video games that I play. Here is a link of my recording at the highest quality. http://useruploads.mythica.org/view/Dazzle170Test.mpg.html The software is really easy to use and installed correctly the first time I tried. Its awesome! Comments posted by Tyle from United States, September 08, 2007: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP Vista? NT4? MAC? Linux? - Rated: 10 of 10. |

I agree with the previous comment. The capture quality is extremely poor, and when viewed it is worse (in my opinion) than a VHS recording. I've had Dazzle cards before (DVCII) and was very pleased with the results but the Pinnacle takeover seems to have degraded the equipment quality drastically. Another downside is that the unit will not work with other capture softwares (Ulead, Magix, Nero and Cyberlink softwares were tried). Just got this the other day and I'm not very impressed. I'm new with capturing, so that could explain my dissapointment I guess, but I really expected better quality video. I used the instant dvd on the highest quality setting, and the results were ugly as hell. In fact it's almost shocking to me that all this fancy new stuff is not enough to match the quality I can get from my beat down, 10 year old $50 vcr. Everything else seemed to work well. Software seems okay and what not. I've tried a few different sources and every different setting for capturing and nothing produced a result that I would be satisfied with. In every case, the drop in quality from the source material is just not acceptable. It should work great if you just want to make little clips to view at small sizes on a computer or psp or something, but not if you want to watch them full screen on a tv.
