Read elsewhere that the Win XP Service Pack 2 problem is all Windows - that the capture card doesn't matter. I don't agree with this. History: - Dell Dimension 8100 1.5 GHZ, 788 Megs RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2 - Have been capturing DV from my Sony TRV340 since '03 with no problems. - Switched to XP SP2 last spring and that's whent hte problems started. Old Firewire Card (some no name thing I got for $20)recognized camera, could control camera but would bomb a soon as DV stream started. Bought a new card, installed the Firewire patch from MS, etc. etc. - Now the old card would capture but dropped frames like mad and bomb after 30-60 seconds of capture - this with internet disconnected, screen saver / wallpaper off, all TSRs disabled and display dumbed down to 16 bit. - New card would capture with no dropped frames, but there were many bad pixelas on the screen (digital snow). Read the reviews here and figured the Pyro 1394 was worth a try. Plugged it in and I'm back in business - have captured about an hour and a half so far with no dropped frames. 1394 comes with Adobe Premiere Elements but I havne't tried it - have been using Ulead VideoStudio since version 6 and am happy with it. Thanks, ADS, for making a card that knows how to get around SP2. Comments posted by Bob Becker from United States, November 26, 2006: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP Vista? NT4? MAC? My 1st and only firewire/video experience. I capture DV from canon miniDV with zero problems and cheap ulead video studio software. Works like a charm. Also have external hard drives through it with no problems. Better than USB 2.0 since firewire doesn't use up CPU. Comments posted by B- from United States, February 29, 2004: Compatibility: Win95? My machine: Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 7200 RPM HDD. Card went for around $50 US at Circuit City in the summer of 2002. Perfect deal for the price. Allows capture to Adobe Premiere 6.0 from a digital camera, and will also export video back to the digital camera. No dropped frames at DV quality for about 25 minutes worth of video. Excellent card! The video editing software that came with it was lame; I would suggest finding a copy of Premiere and not wasting your time with that junk Pyro video editing software. I use this card to capture DV-AVI from a Sony Digital Camcorder via the i-Link connection. The card was identified and worked right away when using Windows XP. It was also very easy to capture video and control the Camcorder via the Firewire connection. I've had this card for about 2 months now. Works flawlessly in Win2K. Haven't gotten around to trying it with Linux but I will eventually. Not much to say about it except it's a good solid entry-level card. I did a lot of shopping around before buying a DV capture card and I'm glad I went with this one. I'd recommend it to anyone. I have had this card for 3 month + now. During this I upgraded to Windows XP Prof. I have yet to have a problem. It works flawless every time. Can't beat the price either. I bought it at Circuit City for $49.99. I have captured 37 minutes in one go. 8 Gig file with no frames dropped. Comments posted by Arthur Marais from Other, January 27, 2002: Compatibility: Win95? |

This is THE card for new users and THE card for anyone not interested in proprietary "Real Time" cards. It was the first OHCI card out there and the easiest to work with. I use several firewire devices (other than my two camera's) connected to this and they all work perfectly fine. I've only had this card for a few days (bought cheap from pagecomputer.com). It has been working great for me! It's so simple to just connect my SONY DV camcorder and capture! It's really fast. Also it was easy to install in my computer. Highly recommended for new and intermediate users who record on DV video and who want to edit their video professionally for a very low cost! Comments posted by andreas / germany from Other, December 19, 2001: Compatibility: Win95? Even though these cards are reputed to work with Win98, many problems can be avoided and it will work way better with Win98SE. Otherwise, it's works great. Comments posted by Ron B from Other, October 03, 2001: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP? Vista? NT4? MAC? Linux? - Rated: 9 of 10. |

Hi! I have this card about one week now. What I would like to say is this: I have no experiance with any videocard before that card was put in my computer. It was working on first try, recognised my Sony 230 camera right away.I have to say, I'm 60 years old and have very limited knowledge about computer. My CP is a HP 550MHz,128MB 20GB.It is working perfectly and easy with this card. Don't lost a single frame while is recording!I would recomend this card, because: it is easy to learn, simple & cheap too. $79 in Circuit City. Have fun! Using Pyro with a Canon GL1 camera. Have completed several DV projects with no problems capturing, editing, and retransmitting video to and from the camera via the included Ulead Media Studio Pro 6 software package. After some initial work, the setup operates with TMPGEnc, bbMPEG, and Nero to create SVCD's and VCD's without a problem. Has no hardware function besides the FireWire interface (no hardware encoder, etc.), but well worth the cost of the package. Support both PAL and NTSC (25, 29.97 fps; 720x480/576), though only tested with NTSC. Originally bundled with Ulead VideoStudio and MediaStudio, now also available with Adobe Premiere 6. Uses Microsoft DirectShow DV capture/render codec. Texas Instrument or Microsoft Device Control driver both work for basic camcorder VCR operations. Texas Instrument OHCI chipset on the PCI board. If you use MediaStudio/VideoStudio to transfer the DV stream, you will get a DV Type-1 AVI, which means non editable video in Premiere, VirtualDub or any other video software Video for Windows based. You will need to install a Type-2 VfW DV codec (Adaptec, MainConcept) and convert your Type-1 file to Type-2. Great DV card overall for home use.
