So after a couple of recorded files: 1) software delivered with this box doesn´t like any antivirus program - that was my problem with freezeng etc. 2) capture quality is excelent in it´s price category maybe the best BUT - i´ve got another one for my brother - and his box heats mutch more than my one and at the end it hangs after 1 hour capturing(if not cooled by ventilator). So by my meaning, this heating problems are only in part of production. Comments posted by ivdol from Czech Republic, December 08, 2004: Compatibility: Win95? Win98 Win2K? WinXP Vista? NT4? MAC? Your problem may be with XP SP2. See posts at tv-cards.com for this problem. LRD Comments posted by LRD from United States, October 21, 2004: Compatibility: Win95? Win98? Win2K? WinXP? Vista? NT4? MAC? Linux? - Rated: No rating. |

I´v got this box a week ago, but I have mix results with it. 1) on my old PIII/1G ASUS CUSL based system with add. VIA USB2 PCI card it works excelent with new CapWith 3,5 2) on new Intel 875 based PIV/3,4G with WinXP SP2 installed it only freezes again and again. I´ve tried nearly everything and ADSTech support cannot help. 3) On my fellows Intel 865 with Celery/2,66G it works excelent without any fault.. I´m not new in IT, but this results are unbelievable for me. For others, this box works excelent - if it works on your system. But it can bring your many dreamless nights Comments posted by ivdol from Czech Republic, October 21, 2004: Compatibility: Win95? Win98 Win2K? WinXP Vista? NT4? MAC? Linux? - Rated: 6 of 10. |

The Good: * Tech support was really fast (same day, sometimes 2x/day at returning my email). Unfortunately, the last response was "At this time there is no patch, we will have to get back to you -- sorry." * Their uninstall (use the manual option, not automatic) appears to be pretty thorough. The Bad: Everything else. Seriously. :^( From installations that failed, to device detection errors, to application crashes (with C++ debug errors no less), to DVD coasters, to abysmal mpeg encoding and performance (quality issues, dropped or distorted audio and video). I pretty much came across it all with this product. I've been in IT tech support roles for over 10 years, so I'm no n00b when it comes to properly installing hardware and software, as well as troubleshooting failures. The ADS DVD+DV was not plug-and-play software or hardware for me by any means. This product will either work for you out-of-the box (as it does purportedly for some, or it'll fail miserably in many areas). The latest version (3.5) of their CapWiz software does not seem to support VIA chipsets, and seems to be less stable than earlier versions (my experience) so beware. On my KT3 Neo FIS2R, the device only <started> to work once I bought and installed an ADS USB 2.0 PCI card, which is why I say the VIA chipset may be at fault. Even more concerning was the product took up 57% of my Athlon 64-3200 CPU w/1GB DDR 400 RAM and 120GB SATA(OS) and dedicated ATA-166 80 GB (video) when doing DV->MPG2 encodes. This was the same for both DV and analog captures. Comparatively, my ATI All-in-Wonder 7500 had none of the quality issues and took only 25% of my CPU while doing real-time analog->MPG2 via <software>. Something was definately going on there... I suspect their latest drivers needs work. The ADS DVD+DV has potential to be a great product, but it certainly didn't work for me on my system. I bought this box (not card as it is an external USB box) for it's realtime MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 capturing. As such it works very well. I especially like DTD (direct to disc) in the 3.5 beta version of the Capture Wizard. The only problem I have had is that capturing PAL video at 720x576 gives poorer quality than at 704x576. The video almost looks like when you select the wrong field order for an interlaced video. Because of this I only give it a rating of 8.
