I have been sorting out getting this capture card working with linux. If you have one, to get it working, please look at:

http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=AdaptecAVC-2410

The card captures TV and Composite without any problems, I have not tested the SVideo input.

The Remote is currently a work in progress, but is nearly working as of 6th March 2005. Refer to the above web link to check if fully working.

Good potential for the card, that all good I have to say about it. Adaptec goes and gets Intervideo to do a hardware mpeg encoder version of their windvr software. Big mistake. Getting a software based decoder company to program hardware. The TV playback is slow it looks as if you are watching fast streaming internet video and not live tv. You also get a sound pop and delay every 30 seconds. This is until you kick in Timeshifting and force the hard drive to compensate where it makes the tv viewing seem as if it's coming live from the cable again. Timeshifting is for live tv delaying, not live tv viewing. Should have made a custom tv viewing app Adaptec. Stick with the SCSI, it's what you do best. As for the capture in WinDVR, that seems to be ok.
I tried using Sagetv and sagetv recorder, both are compatible. (this card is actually supported by both programs) I was told that beyondtv works, but I kept getting a C++ runtime error when I did.

Hi,

i had heard bad reviews about this product earlier that it is sort of hardware locked for the software it provides and support so i thought to give my own testing..I have tried this with trial versions of these softwares apart from the ones that r bundled and it seems to work great for me.
1. Nero Vision Express 2
2. Dr. Divx 1.0
3. Snapstream Beyond tv
4. Sage tv recorder 1.5
5. win dvd
they seems to recognise this card and looks like they r compatible with it..i'll keep posting on this thread if i find it compatible with other better softwares but in my opinion capturing with nero is best as i believe everything and anything from ahead in digital media is the best as they r undefeated leaders.
as far as hardware is concerned i'll give them 8 stars as this is quiet a good hardware compared to the price

I had major problems with getting MYDVD to capture. It can become unstable and hang, even with all the Start Up progammes that normally run in the background, turned off.
The bundled editor is also unreliable. I did get very good support from Adaptec here in UK, but I guess you still can't make 'a silk purse from a sow's ear'!!!!!!

If you want to convert VHS to dvd, try BeyondTV software. This recognises the Adaptec device. You have to configure it to receive set top box. I have edited using Nero vision and burned OK but using clips of no more than 1/2 segments.
Beyond Tv seems more stable capturing.

For me, at the end of the day, I have spent too long with too many let downs with Media Centre, it doesn't do effectively what it says it will do, suggest you look elswhere.

Just wanted to change my rating of the card I was a little set back at first with MYdvd software that came with it and The windvr. But I erased the MYDVD and start using the WINDVD for capturing my old vhs home movies and camcorder, And it works a lot better no problems so far. Captures great and does the basic editing and burning to dvd that I need.

The WINDVD product may work great but I had nothing but problems with WINDVR it would miss shows and some times hang or lose the recording schedule. But I switch over to Sage TV v1.4 and it works great has a built in program guide and just over all runs better, time shifting works great for pausing live tv.. One feature on WINDVR I all ways had problem with.

All in all the hardware captures great!
Ditch the software they give you and use
WINDVD and
Sage TV v1.4

I got this card yesterday from COMPUSA with a 50% discount - was $99. I have only used it with Snapstream to capture TV shows. Queality is not that good. I'm not sure if there are some settings in Snapstream to improve that. My main reason for this is to capture shows and then burn to DVD. I use ULEAD Videostudio but it does not see this device as an input source. I tried to burn one of the TV recordings but keeps on getting a 'audio not compatable' error. Anyone there that has experianced the same problems?

O.K. I've had several chances to record TV show off of my cable system. I've had no problems in doing so. I can manage getting about 1 hour of recording on the "Best" mode and 1 1/2 hour on the "Good" mode. I am not able to see much difference in replaying these on the TV. These are recorded off analog cable and not digital cable. I find that the slight "snow" that shows up on regular TV does not show up on the mpg2 recording as much, and the overall picture quality is good.

I know that several other reviews have mentioned that their system would always crash or freeze during TV (PVR) capture, but I have none yet after recording several hours of difference shows.

I am running a Althon XP 1800+, 512meg ram, 40 & 60 gig HD, MX400 32meg video card.

So far, I've been very please with the Adaptec VideoOh DVD Media Center, in recording shows off cable (PVR) and transferring 8mm video tape over to DVD.

Got this for Christmas so that I could convert all of my 8mm and Hi8mm tapes over to DVD format. The unit is very easy to install and use. The software (MyDVD) works well and is very simple to use, although it is not advanced as some of the others, but this could be a benefit for those just wanting to burn a DVD with menus.
I've burned 18 DVD's so far without any problems (Crash-freeze) on my AMD AthlonXP 1.6, 512meg ram unit. I've had several programs running in the background and have tons of other software on my HD. I burned them all on my LiteOn 4x dual format DVD burner using Sony DVD+R & DVD-R disc.
I have not tried the PVR (like a Tivo)portion of this device, and I didn't buy it for that reason, although some of the prior reviews stated poor results with this.
I've seen this for as low as $99 after rebate.

This is my first capture card. Everything installed fine no problems there. My OS is XP. The MYDVD software did not seem to capture that well. So I tried the WIN DVD Creator 2 that was recommend earlier. It seems to be working fine. The capture quality from VHS using is good. I did notice that the quality from my camcorder (Sony HI8) is still good but not as good coming from the vhs tape i was using to test it. I have not used the DVR software or the tuner portion on the card.

Works fine with the MyDVD v4.5 that comes with it, but don't bother upgrading to Sonic's v5.2.2 the preview audio/video synch is terrible in Capture mode - shame because the compression is better. Doesn't work at all with Movie CD & Video v2.0

Support appears to be non-existent so far! Another few days and if I can't find a solution I sell it.

Well guess what???
A solution to the software problem mentioned by the other users.
Thw WinDVD Creator 2 works with this card perfectly, allows captures within the program. I am in the process of testing the demo. So far so good. Has editing capabilities similar to Pinacle 8. Working on a long VHS tape (2 Hours) and converting to a DVD. Am removing comercials and creating menus for the seperate shows. Looks like a purchase is in order. Amazon has on sale for 1/2 price $49.99 for a preorder

Well, I solved my capture problems with my Adaptec - I bought an ADS Pyro A/V Link. This is an external 1394 device that converts any analog A/V signal (component, s-video, composite) to DV, and has hardware A/V synchronization locking. Since all A/V capture/edit/burn programs support DV these days, you have total compatability with the ADS, and using programs like Ulead VideoStudio 7 and Ulead MovieFactory 2, you can encode on-the-fly from the DV stream to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, with no frame loss or sync issues. If it had a TV tuner, it'd be perfect, but I guess you can't have everything. $155 from buy.com. Get one.

I've had the media center since it's release, I had a standard Videoh! DVD USB before. I got it only because of the price - $99 on sale at CompUSA. MPEG capture quality is excellent, tuner is excellent. I cannot rate the card higher due to the poor encoding control provided with the software that Adaptec provides (customized WinDVR and MyDVD). No ability to capture audio to MP3, only LPCM. Only good/better/best video encoding options, corresponding to 4/6/8 MB/s encoding rates. Despite that the encoder supports MPEG-1, no option to capture to it, requiring transcoding for VCD authoring. No versions of MovieMill work with it, which was how old Videoh! users got the encoding control they wanted. No support from Adaptec on providing improved software, despite many user requests. Great hardware, poor software, abysmal support. Unless you get it as cheaply as I did, avoid it.

ok, the 8 is for the hardware, as it captured superb high res MPEG2 files (DVD), but the software would get like 5. this will be a sweet box when there's better programs to operate it.
