I've had 2 WIN TV GO cards fail on in the last 2 years so I bought one of these. The capture quality is far superior to the WIN TV and can capture @ much higher res as well. I've had no probs whatsoever with it and can rate it very highly!!

A Post-Script to my last posting (I am still a VCD Novice).

I have had to return this card to the supplier, they gave me a full refund so no problems there.

The card would not play nicely with my motherboard (PC Chips M830), or perhaps it was the other way around, either way when the AGP card was in the slot it did not seem possible for the PCI cards to agree on resources (the two PCI cards I had were a simple PCI modem card and an Adaptec Ultra SCSI host adapter). The result was that the machine would not boot (no display) presumably because the Video card could not secure all the I/O resources it needed from the motherboard when the PCI cards were connected.

Tried the usual remedies:-

- Upgrade/Downgrade the motherboard BIOS
- Upgrade the Video Card BIOS
- Try only one PCI card in different slots to access different subsets of resources.

If I did not need the SCSI card (to drive my CD writer and Ultra SCSI HDD) then I would quite happily lose the card and run with the AGP on its own (I was that impressed when it was working).

I would still strongly recommend this card, for a reasonably technically literate (but not necessarily VCD literate) user, the bundled capture software seems competent enough when used with the usual common utilities.

Just make sure your supplier will take it back if your motherboard will not pay ball!!!

The card is a combined video graphics/capture card that fits in an AGP slot and supports AGP X4, it supports S-VHS/Composite In/Out.

The system these results are based on is an Athlon 1700 XP+ (256MB RAM) using Windoze XP Home.

Capture Results from the composite video input (via the normal European SCART from a 12 year old Phiips VR703 VHS video player) are impressive. This is my first capture card so I was not too sure what to expect, did not realise how many artefacts some of my old videos had. Seems to capture footage from pre-recorded titles OK. Very little increase in CPU when capturing to MPEG2. No audio synch problems spotted so far, I am using a standard motherboard base sound card for simultaneous audio capture which the software adds into the mpeg 2 file.

Main problems were associated with the fact that all the default driver settings are for NTSC and not (the far superior) PAL (well I would say that coming from the UK), this result in a monochrome or worse capture image. Once the settings were adjusted all was well. The bundled Ulead VideoStudio 5 DVD SE software seems competent enough to get footage rom the video source encoded and on to the hard disk before using the usual set of favourite Freeware tools.

The other problem I have at present is an AGP PCI conflict (that seems to be a feature of my motherboard a PC-Chips M830). Have been told by my supplier that a BIOS 'down'grade may resolve the issue. Will report back.

The card is based on the GeForce 4MX (460) chipset and has DVI and analogue VGA inputs with a dual head capability (not tested). In single head mode it is an impressive graphics card, providing a noticeable improvement in 3D performance over Geforce 2MX.

Will provide an update if the PCI issue is resolved.

New Card= New Capture Card since your last vist.

Feature
What kind of main capture features it supports
Analog VideoIn = Analog composite or/and SVHS video input
Video Card = If it is a Video Card/Graphic Card
Tv Tuner = Built-In TV-Tuner
Digital TV = Built-In Digital TV-Tuner
DV/Firewire = DV/Firewire/i.Link input
DV Converter = Analog composite or/and SVHS video input and converts to DV video
MPEG1 hardware = Capture directly MPEG1(VCD) video using hardware*
MPEG2 hardware = Capture directly MPEG2(SVCD and DVD) video using hardware*
MJPEG hardware = Capture directly to MJPEG using hardware*
MPEG4 hardware = Capture directly to MPEG4(DivX,Xvid) video using hardware*
* = Most capture cards can capture to this format using software but it usually requires a very fast computer, if it supports realtime capturing it uses the capture cards hardware and it doesn't require a very fast computer and you may get better quality but less options/settings than software capturing.

Compatibility
What Operating System our users have reported that it works on, Win95=Works Win95=Does not work Win95?=Not tested This is user based.

Cnx = Connection
What type of connection the capture device has to the computer, PCI, AGP, USB1/1.1/2, DV or PCMCIA.
